Preview: Stuttgart vs Bayern Munich

Yahoo27-02-2025
Last season's second vs third place takes place on Friday night as Stuttgart host this season's league leaders Bayern Munich.
Stuttgart are in seventh place this season with 36 points and are chasing a top four finish, which they are just three points behind.
Last week they drew 1-1 against Hoffenheim where they took the lead in the 9th minute and created plenty of chances however, they conceded in the 74th minute when Gift Orban levelled the scoring.
Sebastian Hoeness's side have now conceded 12 goals in their last seven matches in all competitions and have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five Bundesliga matches.
The defending must improve for Stuttgart, especially as they are facing the Bundesliga's top three in the next four matches.
Their opponents Bayern Munich are now eight points clear at the top of the table having come of the back of a 4-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt.
This was Vincent Kompany's side's third clean sheet in a row in the league, which is a big improvement on the previous three matches where Bayern did not keep a clean sheet and conceded six goals.
They are also the leagues top scorers with 69 goals, which is at least 18 more than any other side in the division.
In the reverse fixture back in October, Bayern were 4-0 winners, with Harry Kane scoring a hat-trick in the second half.
Team News
Stuttgart will be without centre-back Dan-Axel Zagadou and striker El Bilal Toure due to injury.
As for Bayer Munich, Vincent Kompany has said that it is probably too early for Joshua Kimmich to return against Stuttgart but did confirm that Aleksandar Pavlovic is fit to play.
Dayot Upamecano will miss out with injury meaning Eric Dier and Kim Min-jae are very much likely to be paired in the centre of defence.

Bayern Munich protect future interest as starlet closes in on PSV move

Bayern Munich protect future interest as starlet closes in on PSV move originally appeared on The Sporting News Bayern Munich have now allowed their 12th player to leave the club this summer as fans believe this will trigger new signings before the transfer window closes in September. The Bavarians are extremely short on squad depth and now Germany U21 international Paul Wanner is close to completing a move to Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven as per Sky Sports' Florian Plettenberg. PSV have agreed a permanent deal for Wanner worth €15 million ($17.4m) + add-ons as he is all set to undergo medical for the Dutch outfit in the next couple of days. The 19-year-old has attracted a lot of interest from clubs all around Europe including Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach, who were in with a loan interest. However, Bayern Munich snubbed his move to Monchengladbach as they reached a permanent switch agreement with PSV with a reported buy-back clause in place. Wanner is currently recovering from a minor ligament injury and that could be a small hindrance in this deal but shouldn't be a major concern for PSV. 📲Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Why Wanner decided to leave Bayern Munich this summer? Wanner was not in Vincent Kompany's direct plans despite injury to Jamal Musiala and Bayern Munich's failed push to sign Florian Wirtz and Nick Woltemade this summer. The 19-year-old attacking-midfielder has failed to convince the club hierarchy that he belongs to this level despite his impressive performances for Heidenheim last season. The teenager has been on loan for the last couple of seasons first at Elversberg followed by last season's loan spell at Heidenheim. Wanner featured in 29 Bundesliga matches last season and finished with three goals and two assists. he was lauded for exceptional passing range, creativity, vision and ability to use space near the final third. He was also a part of the Germany U21 team that reached the Euros U21 final in Slovakia back in June. They unfortunately lost the title clash against England. A move to PSV could help both parties as he would be featuring in a fast-paced league suited to his style of play. On the other hand, his permanent switch frees up some more funds for the Bayern bosses to make a couple of more signings filling the holes in the current roster ahead of a big 2025/26 campaign. Thomas Müller publishes children's book on his best moments with Bayern Munich and Germany

Thomas Müller's goodbye at Bayern Munich has been long and tough. Fans have sat through the reveal that he would not be given a new contract to stay in Munich, his very short renewal, the rumors over his potential next move, the last days of training in Munich and then his eventual goodbye. But Müller is nothing if not a man of many surprises, so perhaps something like this should have been expected. Just in time for his departure from Bayern, Bild reports, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, that the 2014 World Cup winner has published a book that details all his greatest adventures: Thomas Müller has published his own children's book, featuring eight illustrated highlights from his career on 16 of the pages include Germany's famous 4-0 win over Argentina in the 2010 World Cup and Bayern's 1-0 win over Paris Saint Germain in the 2020 Champions League final. Interestingly, then-PSG head coach Thomas Tuchel is illustrated sobbing into his hands. That could not have been motivated by anything else, right? If you would like to see some silly, comedic illustrations on Müller's greatest moments, then this book might be a fun one to purchase. Let's breakdown the latest and great news from a crazy week on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Weekend Warm-up Show. This is what we have on tap: Some final thoughts on the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup as we steamroll toward the match, including the expected absence of Alexander Nübel. Thomas Müller landed to much fanfare in Vancouver. Canada…such a great place. After some doubt, Kingsley Coman is finally off to Al Nassr. Let's talk about why there was a delay and what that could mean for what is going on inside the walls of Säbener Straße. The negotiations between Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart for Nick Woltemade might have come to a fiery conclusion on Wednesday. That is a big problem for Bayern Munich, so let's discuss the fallout. All of a sudden Christopher Nkunku might be the value buy that Bayern Munich is looking for…let's kick around why that might not be a bad idea, but why it also is not the best idea.
