Gang suspected of luxury car thefts in border areas are now targeting Dublin

Criminals strip vehicles for parts at 'chop shop' in Northern Ireland
One of the suspects went to Connolly Hospital in Dublin for treatment for his injuries
An organised crime gang suspected of stealing luxury cars in border counties and stripping them for parts for the black market are believed to have expanded their operations to Dublin.
Three criminals have been identified as being the leaders of the gang, who are operating a 'chop shop' in Northern Ireland.
The expensive cars are dismantled there, with the parts either exported or sold on the black market in the Republic.
Gardaí have identified two career criminals from Co Louth, aged in their mid-30s, and a Dublin criminal from Blanchardstown, aged in his mid-40s, as key players in the operation.
The Dublin criminal has convictions for car theft dating to the 1990s when he was a juvenile.
The younger pair from Louth also have convictions for car theft offences.
There are concerns that the gang have expanded their operations from the border counties into the capital.
Gardaí were warned last year not to approach the volatile criminal unless armed
The men were involved in a high-speed chase with gardaí on July 11 in the Blanchardstown area in which two cars crashed.
The criminals fled the scene, but the Dubliner went to Connolly Hospital the following day for treatment for injuries.
Their current base is the Newry area of Co Down, and they have been stopped and searched by the PSNI on a number of occasions.
'This gang is organised in nature in terms of the cars they steal and the money they are suspected of making from it,' a source said.
One of the Louth criminals is considered by gardaí to be 'reckless and out of control'.
Gardaí were warned last year not to approach the volatile criminal unless armed. At the time, he was involved in a feud with a criminal from Co Monaghan.
He previously served a jail sentence for threatening to kill a number of people.
Two gang members were arrested over an incident in which a pedestrian was killed
Meanwhile, gardaí are also continuing to monitor the activities of the Lucky Dip gang, who have been stealing cars throughout Leinster.
An 18-year-old criminal who is considered the leader of the Lucky Dip outfit is currently out on bail after he appealed against a seven-month sentence handed down by the district court earlier this year.
Sources said gardaí have been monitoring a number of TikTok accounts linked to the Dublin teenager, in which he has been taunting gardaí with videos of Lucky Dip members driving stolen vehicles.
One of these cars is a Volkswagen Golf believed to have been stolen in Rathfarnham, south Dublin, in March.
The gang have been driving at high speed the wrong way along motorways and at roundabouts.
Two gang members have been arrested over an incident last year in which a pedestrian was killed in north Dublin.
There are major concerns that some gang members have 'graduated' to be involved in serious organised crime in west Dublin.
Gardaí nicknamed them the Lucky Dip gang after learning that they pick towns at random on an almost nightly basis using Google Maps.

Drag performer launches legal action after ‘campaign of abuse' following storytelling event

A DRAG PERFORMER has launched legal action being 'subjected to a campaign of online abuse' following a storytelling event in a Belfast library last week. The legal action has been initiated by Lady Portia Di'Monte, one of the two drag performers at the event which was held on Friday in the Holywood Arches Library in east Belfast. It was organised by the regeneration charity EastSide Partnership and was part of its Eastside Arts Festival. The storytelling event featured two drag queens, one of whom provided sign language interpretation, and included readings of The Chronicles of Narnia and Dear Zoo, a pop-up animal book aimed at toddlers. However, a number of protesters gathered outside the public library and the storytelling had to be cancelled early as a result. In a video circulated on social media, the two drag performers can be seen being escorted from the library by PSNI officers and taken away in a police vehicle. A PSNI spokesperson said that officers 'attended a report of a small demonstration and engaged with those present'. 'Two people were escorted from the building to further ensure that there would be no breach of the peace,' added the spokesperson. In a statement issued today by Phoenix Law, Lady Portia Di'Monte said that the 'private, family-friendly Drag Queen Storytime event' has become the 'subject of targeted misinformation and online abuse'. Lady Portia Di'Monte said the event 'promoted communication and belonging for all'. 'Despite its warm and educational focus, the event was disrupted by protesters whose actions created fear and discouraged some families from attending.' Advertisement The drag performer added that the PSNI were present to 'maintain safety due to external threats – not because of any risk inside'. 'Since the event, I have been subjected to abuse and false accusations online. 'I am now seeking legal advice to protect my reputation and my safety.' Lady Portia added: 'When children see diversity reflected around them—whether it's queer people, deaf individuals, blended families, or those who feel different—it builds empathy, understanding, and resilience. 'These events are about joy, education, and creating spaces where every child can feel seen and valued. 'To those spreading hate—I will not be silenced. I remain committed to creating safe, welcoming spaces for all children to grow up feeling accepted and proud of who they are.' Phoenix Law said that the PSNI had to escort the drag performers from the library 'due to safety concerns arising from protesters outside the venue'. The law firm added that it is 'aware that footage of this incident has since circulated on social media, accompanied by damaging and defamatory commentary'. Phoenix Law solicitor Victoria Haddock said Lady Portia has been subjected to a 'campaign of online abuse, including highly serious and defamatory allegations'. 'These claims are entirely unfounded, malicious, and constitute a deliberate effort to harm our client's reputation. 'The suggestion that drag performance in this context poses any risk to children is baseless and harmful. 'We have now been instructed to initiate legal proceedings against all those responsible for publishing defamatory material, and to examine whether any criminal offences have been committed.' Divorce lawyer for husband of Irish woman who died on yacht told court of her death the day after she was found

A divorce attorney for the husband of the late Irish designer Martha Nolan-O'Slatarra has notified a court of the designer's death, can reveal. Court documents obtained by show how Sam Ryan's lawyer, David Centeno, filed the document with a New York court on August 6. Mr Centeno was contacted for comment. Carlow native Ms Nolan O'Slatarra's unconscious body was discovered aboard the 'Ripple' private yacht in Montauk, an upmarket area of the Hamptons in New York, on Tuesday morning just after midnight (5am Irish time). Pic: Martha Nolan/TikTok Police said that preliminary investigations suggest that Ms Nolan-O'Slatarra did not suffer a violent death. On Wednesday, a notice of her death had been filed by her husband's attorney. He also requested that a judge be assigned to the case and proposed a financial settlement for the court. Ms Nolan O'Slatarra, 33, a fashion designer, moved to the US when she was 26. She founded the East x East fashion brand and launched a pop-up shop in Montauk just last month. Suffolk County Police Department said that her body 'did not show evidence of violence'. Martha Nolan-O'Slatarra. Pic: TikTok A police spokesperson said a preliminary examination of Ms Nolan O'Slattara's remains was 'inconclusive' and that a cause of death is 'pending further examination'. Her mother Elma has said she has no idea what happened to her daughter. Further tests will be carried out to determine exactly what happened to the high-flying designer. In a tribute to the deceased, her business partner, Limerick man Dylan Grace, said: 'She was a truly remarkable person, an amazing business partner and she will be forever in my heart. We are devastated by her passing. 'We dreamed big together, laughed harder than anyone else could understand, and built so much from nothing. I'm truly blessed and grateful to have had you in my life. Love you so much, Mar. Fly high girl.' Martha Nolan-O'Slatarra. Pic: TikTok Ms Nolan O'Slattara's social media profiles show a woman living her dream in the affluent Hamptons area of New York and dividing her time between Montauk and Manhattan's Upper East Side. Her last TikTok video posted online showed her celebrating the opening of her brand's pop-up shop on the beach in the Hamptons. Between helicopter rides and private jets, Ms Nolan was cementing herself as one of the many successful young businesswomen in the area. However, her heart was never too far from Ireland, and especially Carlow. A TikTok video posted last year showed Ms Nolan O'Slattara walking in fields with the family sheepdog as well as taking selfies with livestock. However, despite the upbeat nature of her social media posts, the Carlow native had been involved in a legal dispute with a business associate. In 2022, she was sued by the founder of Out East Accessories Inc., owned by Jeremy Valeda. A court filing states: 'Defendant Martha Nolan [O'Slattara] was a former employee of Out East, a company that specialises in the sale of its own branded sunglasses. [Ms Nolan O'Slattara] was terminated by Out East for cause in November 2021. In the weeks leading up to her termination and for months thereafter, Nolan ransacked Out East, stole all of its assets, and essentially destroyed the company.' In the filing, Ms Nolan O'Slattara and another person were accused of stealing the $34,000 (€29,000) remaining in Out East's bank account, stealing all of Out East's eyewear inventory, and selling or gifting the eyewear without authorisation, to enrich themselves at a total loss to the company. She and her co-defendant strongly denied any wrongdoing. The case was settled a few months after it was filed. Just weeks ago, Ms Nolan O'Slatarra celebrated the grand opening of her East x East brand's pop-up shop, located at Gurney's Montauk Resort and Seawater Spa. 'Goals achieved,' she wrote on a video of the shack housing her bikinis and beachwear shared on TikTok on July 1 as she encouraged the public to visit. Ms Nolan-O'Slatarra was also appointed director of operations at K4 Capital Management, an investment management firm, in June last year.
