Hamas: Wietkov's proposal did not include an end to aggression on Gaza

Senior Hamas official Bassem Naim stated on Tuesday evening that the movement had informed mediators of its readiness to enter a new round of negotiations, but not based on the latest version of the proposal by U.S. envoy Steve Wietkov, which, according to Naim, fails to guarantee a complete cessation of aggression on Gaza.
In a press statement, Naim emphasized that Hamas cannot accept any agreement that does not ensure a halt to the war and aggression on the Gaza Strip.
He further explained that Wietkov returned in the most recent round of talks with a proposal that significantly deviated from the previously agreed-upon version, adding that the new proposal included vague and ambiguous language that does not clearly guarantee an end to hostilities in Gaza.
Naim pointed out that many countries around the world — including some of Israel's allies — are now convinced that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the main obstacle preventing a deal from being reached.
He stressed that Hamas and all Palestinian factions will not miss any opportunity to end the war and aggression against the Gaza Strip and to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people — but only if there are real and credible guarantees.
