Former Carlton star Fraser Brown seals nine-figure deal
A company headed by ex-Blues Premiership player Fraser Brown has splashed a whopping nine-figure sum on a development site in Melbourne's south east. It is believed that Brown Property Group's purchase of the 68.77ha Clyde North land has set a new record for Victorian residential development sites, with industry sources putting the sales price at circa $250m. More than 1290 homes could be built at the 200 Tuckers Rd address in the future, subject to planning approval from the City of Casey. The property was sold by a family who have farmed the area for six generations. Commercial real estate agency LAWD senior director Peter Sagar, who had the listing alongside colleague Paul Callanan, said they received more than 20 offers for the site – totalling an overall $4bn in capital. Most interested parties were big-name developers including multiple Australian-based Chinese developers. Mr Sagar declined to comment on the sales price but said Perth- and Queensland-based developers had flown in to inspect the land parcel and meet the owners. The final sales deal equated to about $4.2m per hectare for the site's 60ha net developable area. 'I can't think of a single residential development side that's sold for that amount for a long time, in Victoria,' Mr Sagar said. Brown Property Group purchased the Cranbourne Golf Club, 12km from the Tuckers Rd site, for a reported $190m 12 months ago. The company's director Fraser Brown played in Carlton's 1995 grand final side and won the club's Best and Fairest award three years later. He retired from football in 2000. The Tuckers Rd property is located within the Clyde Creek precinct structure plan, a document outlining Victorian government-approved future development for the wider area. Mr Sagar is also managing the sales campaign for a 36.39ha block in Diggers Rest that is expected to sell for $90m-$100m, according to industry insiders.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says world leaders should not show weakness to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Mr Putin has threatened to hit back at Ukraine, after it launched attacks this past week. Mr Zelenskyy has suggested a ceasefire with Russia, until a meeting can be arranged with Mr Putin. At a meeting, he said Europe, Ukraine and the whole world have a chance to end the war. "My proposal, which I believe our partners can support, is that we agree a ceasefire with the Russians until the leaders meet. We offer a meeting any day starting from Monday … if there is no mutual understanding, if there is no desire for de-escalation, if there is no desire and vision how to put an end to it, then ceasefire will be over the same day." Australia is hoping United States President, Donald Trump, will not put a thirty per cent tariff on Australian steel and aluminium imports. Mr Trump has announced every country except the U-K must have a 30 per cent tariff on steel and aluminium. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will meet with the U-S President soon and will ask. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt says trade partners are encouraged to come forward with tailored deals. "Well, each country has unique advantages, unique challenges to it based on their markets and what they export to us and what we export to them. And so that's why the president smartly advised his trade team to engage in tailor-made deal making." Western Australian Greens Party leader, Brad Pettit, says the state is now the climate change capital. Official figures show WA released 89.37 million tonnes of carbon dioxide in 2022 to 2023, almost as high as the record number of 89.64 million tonnes released between 2009 and 2010. WA Greens M-P Sophie McNeill says it is extremely concerning the state's Labor government has just approved decades more emissions from mining. "The Cook Labor Government knows these numbers and they just don't care. They know that West Australia needs to drastically reduce our emissions that we are the worst climate laggard out in the whole country, and yet they are willing to open new gas projects in the face of this." United Nations Security Council members have criticised the United States, after it rejected a vote calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and for charities to have full access to Gaza. Washington's United Nations representative Dorothy Shea says the plan would not be effective. 'Fourteen votes in favour, one against. The draft resolution has not been adopted, owing to the negative vote of a permanent member."] The vote has sparked anger among members of the council. The Hajj Pilgrimage in Mecca has begun, with more than 1.5 million Muslims from around the world travelling to Saudi Arabia to perform their religious duty. Palestinian pilgrims like Rajai Al-Kahlut from Gaza have gathered in Mecca. "By God's grace and mercy, we were able to be among those who came for hajj this season, and this was the greatest gift from God for us. By His grace and mercy, He granted us this hajj. We pray to God for acceptance. Thank God. Our performance of hajj came at the right time so we can pray for our people in Gaza and to ask God to stop the war and end this great calamity that has befallen us." With her appointment effective today, Carmel Monaghan, who has been CEO of Ramsay Health Care (ASX:RHC) Australia since 2020, joins the board of EMVision Medical Devices (ASX:EMV) at a pivotal time in its commercial journey. Ramsay is Australia's largest private hospital operator and offers a range of multidisciplinary healthcare services. It also has extensive operations internationally including in the UK and Europe. Before her appointment as CEO, Monaghan was group chief of staff of Ramsay's global operations, gaining extensive experience and a comprehensive understanding of healthcare operations and strategy both in Australia and overseas. EMVision said she also served as the group head of marketing and public affairs, driving marketing, brand and communications strategy, during which time the group grew to become a leading private healthcare operator globally. Appointment follows start of pivotal trial Monaghan's appointment comes after the company kicked off a pivotal trial in March for its first commercial device – the emu bedside brain scanner, which is designed to rapidly diagnose stroke at the point-of-care. The pivotal trial supports US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) de novo (new device) clearance for emu. If granted clearance emu is anticipated to become the predicate device for its second device, First Responder, allowing an expedited 510(k) FDA pathway for the pre-hospital market. EMVision this week announced it had broadened the pivotal trial for its first commercial device with activation at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, scheduled for this month. Mount Sinai is recognised as a leader in stroke research and treatment. 'After more than three decades in healthcare leadership, I'm especially drawn to opportunities where innovation directly addresses unmet patient needs,' she said. 'Stroke and traumatic brain injury are leading causes of global disability and disease burden and will increase with an ageing population. 'Timely access to acute care and treatment are crucial in minimising the impact of stroke and so I'm excited by the transformative opportunity that EMVision's point-of-care neurodiagnostic products represent to improve outcomes for patients.' EMVision chairman John Keep said Monaghan was an 'exceptional addition' to EMVision's board. 'She brings a wealth of experience across clinician engagement, corporate strategy, marketing, procurement and government relations,' he said. 'With our pivotal trial for regulatory clearance underway, the board looks forward to Carmel's contributions as EMVision progresses through to commercialisation and growth.'
