Josh Hazlewood destroys West Indies as Australia win first Test in Bridgetown
Australian quick Josh Hazlewood has ripped through the West Indies' batting line-up to set up a 1-0 lead in the Frank Worrell Trophy series. It was a day of pure dominance from the Aussies with Hazlewood leading the way in Bridgetown and unlucky not to have more wickets. Hazlewood finished the day with five wickets but a dropped catch by Sam Konstas late in the game robbed him of a sixth. Even dumped veteran Marnus Labuschagne got in on the action, with a superb direct hit — while he was on the ground as a substitute fielder — to inflict the run-out of Alzarri Joseph for a duck. Nathan Lyon chipped in late with two wickets to close out the innings with Australia winning by 159 runs. Earlier, Australia set the West Indies a target of 301 to win the first Test after a second-innings of defiance frustrated the hosts. Having resumed on Day 3 on a perilous-looking 4-92, and a lead of just 82, the tourists dug deep to put themselves in a strong position. After Travis Head led the morning fightback with his second half-century of the Test, Beau Webster and Alex Carey built on his good work to push Australia into the ascendancy. Head made 61 before falling to a straight one from Shamar Joseph that kept low and thundered into his pads. There was no doubting that and Head departed with a rueful smile without considering a review. Despite a reputation built on aggressive batting, here he went about his work with great patience, testament to his quality and character. Head had earlier had a moment of good fortune when dropped at second slip by Justin Greaves when on 21. He took full advantage of that reprieve to put on a crucial 102-run partnership with Webster That was Australia's only loss before lunch and with Webster going on to make 63 and Carey adding 65, the visitors piled on the frustration for the home attack. Webster fell to an unfortunate tickle down the leg side as Shamar Joseph picked up his third wicket. Carey, displaying some exciting stroke-making, fell when trying a shot over cover from Roston Chase, the West Indies captain, and was caught in the deep by Greaves. When Australia No.11 Hazlewood swung at one outside the off-stump and got a massive edge, the ball fizzed back on to the stumps and Australia were finally all out for 310. Perhaps most telling was the sight of Shamar Joseph who, rather than celebrating his fifth wicket, was crouching down and beating the pitch with his hand as the players headed off for tea.

Report: Warriors sign pair of undrafted free agent guards
On Thursday, the Golden State Warriors used a pair of second-round selections to add Australian forward Alex Toohey and Florida Gators guard Will Richard. Yet, after the 2025 edition of the draft closed, Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Steve Kerr weren't done adding prospects. Following the draft, the Warriors inked a pair of undrafted free agents. Houston's L.J. Cryer and Texas Tech's Chance McMillian are set to join Golden State, according to the SF Standards' Danny Emerman. Cryer starred at Houston for the last two seasons, averaging 15.7 points on 41.1% shooting from the field to go along with 2.4 rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes per game last season. Cryer finished the season with third-team All-American honors. Cyer is a strong shooter, hitting 42.4% of his attempts from beyond the arc. Cryer drilled five or more triples in eight different games for the Cougars in the 2024-25 season. McMillian played the last two seasons at Texas Tech, earning All-Big 12 honors in 2024-25. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 14.2 points on 52.3% shooting from the field and 43.3% from beyond the arc to go along with four boards and 1.8 assists per game. Lions hope to 'create moments' as Irish crew get shot against Force
ANDY FARRELL AND his Lions coaches are urging their team to create memories when they play their first fixture on Australian soil against Western Force on Saturday [KO 11am Irish time, Sky Sports]. The Lions are eager to kickstart their tour after losing 28-24 to Argentina in their Dublin opener as they build towards the Test series against the Wallabies, which begins in Brisbane on 19 July. Although they may be the worst-performing of Australia's Super Rugby sides this season, the Force have been reinforced by the presence of six Wallabies who have been released for the Optus Stadium showdown. Irish scrum coach John Fogarty has highlighted the importance of the Lions rewarding their supporters – more than 30,000 are expected to head Down Under – after seeing the Aviva Stadium turn red last Friday. 'The lads need to create moments for people to get behind,' said Fogarty, who oversaw a dominant scrum performance against the Pumas. 'Whether it's in a scrum or off a line-out or attacking play or defensive play, we need to make sure we're creating moments that capture the minds of the people that matter most. That's the plan. 'It's an amazing thing, the Lions. You get behind it instantly. 'If anything, it's good to feel it early and then we know that we'll get our heads absolutely chewed off if it happens again, so the plan is to win from here on out. 'A lot of the chat has been about us and what we need to improve. The only thing that can beat us is us really.'
