Doubts emerge over Miami Grand Prix as severe thunderstorm warning issued around race time, could be cancelled
The Miami Sprint faced a decent intensity of showers on Saturday, which led many to end up hitting the chicane or taking a spin. But the situation can be far worse at the time of the Sunday race, as the weather department has forecast severe thunderstorms and lightning in Miami for early evening. And this has left the
FIA
to make a decision on cancelling the race if it is delayed but the thunderstorm stays for long.
Why is there a chance of cancelling the Miami Grand Prix when it can be postponed?
Because the
F1 Academy race
, to be held during the day on Sunday, was cancelled after it was delayed but the rain and storm didn't slow down. This left many wondering if the main race could also be cancelled in such a case.
According to the FIA rules, a race has to end within three hours, including red flags. So if the weather doesn't get better, the race may probably be cancelled.
Latest weather forecast for Miami Grand Prix
According to The-race.com, the National Weather Service Miami-South Florida has stated: 'Scattered thunderstorms are expected today. A few strong to severe storms are possible this afternoon into early evening across the Lake Region and East Coast Metro.'

Its advisory also states: 'If thunderstorms are forecast, organisers should consider cancelling or postponing the activity or event.'
What can happen if there is very heavy rain and lightning during the race?
Intense rain is a serious issue as it reduces visibility and grip. Number 17, Jules Bianchi, died after suffering serious injuries while racing in heavy rain during the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix. He was in a coma for nine months before his death, after which number 17 was retired forever in his honour.
As a learning lesson, the FIA made the halo cockpit protection device mandatory in all open-wheel championships. Despite the device being used even now, the FIA may not take a chance after Charles Leclerc hit the wall a day before while moving on the wet track towards the grid before the start of the F1 Sprint.

Mayor Sadiq Khan calls on WWE to bring WrestleMania to London
Image via WWE London Mayor Sadiq Khan has once again publicly pitched the idea of bringing WWE 's biggest annual event, WrestleMania, to the British capital. In a recent interview during a CNBC panel at SXSW London, Khan made a direct appeal to WWE Chief Content Officer Paul 'Triple H' Levesque, saying, 'Triple H, if you're watching, we want WrestleMania to come to London. ' This isn't the first time Khan has championed the idea. He previously held talks with Levesque and WWE President Nick Khan in July last year. But his latest statement has reignited discussions about whether the spectacle dubbed the 'Super Bowl of Wrestling' could finally move beyond North American shores. London as the ideal WrestleMania destination Khan positioned London as the ideal host, calling it the 'sporting capital of the world.' Backing his claim, he pointed to the city's long-standing history of hosting major global events - from Wimbledon and the Premier League to American football matchups and the 2012 Olympics. 'If WrestleMania came to London, we wouldn't just have a great weekend - we'd have a festival,' he said. 'A celebration featuring WWE legends, current stars, and the next generation of talent.' WWE In London? Triple H and Nick Khan Talk WrestleMania With Sadiq Khan Speculation about London as a potential WrestleMania venue has been ongoing since 2023, when John Cena made a surprise appearance at a WWE event in the city and endorsed the idea. Fans across the UK and Europe have echoed that sentiment, calling for WWE to bring its marquee show to a wider international audience. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Costco Shoppers Say This Wrinkle Cream Is "Actually Worth It" The Skincare Magazine Undo If the move does happen, it would mark the first time in WrestleMania history that the event is held outside North America. WWE's global expansion in full swing The renewed pitch from Khan comes at a time when WWE is rapidly expanding its global footprint. Earlier this year, the company moved its flagship show, Monday Night RAW, to Netflix globally - a major step in reaching new international audiences and strengthening its presence outside the U.S. Recent international premium live events like Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Elimination Chamber in Perth, and Backlash France have all been received with overwhelming enthusiasm. These successes have shown that WWE can generate sell-out crowds and passionate fan bases far beyond its traditional markets. Khan believes the timing couldn't be better for WWE to take its biggest show to London. 'I think the potential has not been reached,' he said. 'If WrestleMania wants to expand, the obvious place to come is London. We have the infrastructure, the fanbase, and the global spotlight to make it the most successful WrestleMania yet.' As WWE explores new markets and cities, London's persistent bid may be inching closer to reality.

NHL accelerates Hawk-Eye technology integration for smarter officiating and enhanced viewing
Sony x NHL: Powering the Future of Hockey (Credit: Sony Official) The NHL is taking a major step toward modernizing in-game officiating by expanding its use of Hawk-Eye technology. Developed by Sony, this system, already a staple in tennis, uses high-speed cameras and AI to track the puck and players with millimeter-level accuracy. Commissioner Gary Bettman stressed that adoption will only happen once reliability is proven, ensuring no compromise on the game's integrity. Currently, Hawk-Eye supports the league's SMART replay system, speeding up reviews for challenges and disputed calls. The upgraded version captures 29 skeletal points per player and three on sticks, allowing real-time movement analysis. This data could soon assist referees in determining high-sticks, goal validity, and offside plays with near-instantaneous precision. Multi-layered tech aims to eliminate controversial calls David Lehanski, NHL's executive VP of innovation, revealed that the solution won't rely on a single technology. Instead, it will merge puck-embedded sensors, optical tracking, and jersey-based wearables, and this hybrid approach minimizes blind spots. This is ensuring accurate rulings even in chaotic net-front scrambles or fast breakouts. Hawk-Eye CEO Rufus Hack noted the system's ability to process movements in real time. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo This is reducing delays in reviews, and the league plans extensive testing to ensure seamless integration with existing officiating workflows, if successful, it could phase out prolonged video reviews. With tighter close-ups and predictive replay angles. This will mimic the intensity of in-arena viewing, and the league also sees potential for interactive features. Such as real-time player speed and shot analytics for streaming audiences, as cameras become lighter and more versatile, broadcasts could adopt drone-like perspectives. That too, without disrupting gameplay, for the NHL, Hawk-Eye isn't just about accuracy. It's about deepening fan engagement in an increasingly digital sports landscape. While eager to adopt technology, the NHL remains cautious. About disrupting the game's pace, Bettman reiterated that any system must be "faster than human judgment". To avoid unnecessary stoppages, the league's phased rollout includes testing in minor leagues and preseason games before full NHL implementation. NDMC to launch intense tree planting drive during monsoon
New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is set to start its intensive tree planting drive in early July, coinciding with the monsoon. The initiative aims to plant 2,039 trees and roughly 4.82 lakh shrubs during the financial year throughout NDMC's jurisdiction. Officials said the 2025 targets were established following a comprehensive assessment that identified locations where trees were uprooted or damaged along avenue roads as well as areas requiring additional green cover. "While the planting will be carried out during the peak monsoon, it will continue later as well," an official said. "In July only, we aim to plant 914 saplings of indigenous trees and 9,28781 shrubs. While planting saplings at the sites of uprooted trees, we first make beds at the kuccha portion on the backside and plant multiple saplings on this stretch. Considering other trees on such patches are also old, we make sure that the new plantation is prepared by the time other trees are damaged or uprooted, and a huge space is not created," the official added. Some of the patches where planting is planned for July are Tolstoy Marg, Radial Road 1-7 and the outer circle of Connaught Place, Mandir Marg, Bhair Veer Singh Marg, Talkatora Garden, Firozshah Road, Jantar Mantar Road, Copernicus Marg, Akbar Road, Motilal Nehru Marg, Nehru Park, Malcha Marg, Commonwealth Game Park, Sanjay Jheel Park, Lodhi Road (Jor Bagh Site), Malcha Marg Colony parks and surrounding areas, Brigadier Hosiyan Singh Marg and Moti Bagh. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Secure Your Child's Future with Strong English Fluency Planet Spark Learn More Undo The horticulture department also makes a simultaneous effort to prune trees, treat damaged portions of diseased trees, and balance the canopy so that the chances of the tree falling during heavy rain decrease. "We have one tree ambulance in place, but to accelerate the work in the peak season, we have made temporary arrangements for three more trucks.... During the ongoing one week-one road drive, wherein concentrated effort is being made to develop all infra facilities on one road, we do pruning, etc. , as well," an official said. To commemorate World Environment Day and foster environmental awareness, NDMC chairman Keshav Chandra planted a sapling of Lagerstroemia (Pride of India) at Nehru Park, Chanakyapuri, on Thursday. He also said that the theme for World Environment Day is Beat Plastic Pollution, and a three-day Recycle Mela at three sites — Connaught Place, Khan Market and Malcha Market was organised this week.
