
NCSI to conducts a public opinion survey
Muscat: The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) will begin conducting a public opinion survey on Sunday, focusing on employment, social protection, sports, and entertainment.
The survey will continue until June 25 as part of the center's ongoing efforts to provide accurate data that reflects societal realities and aids in policymaking and decision-making.
Saada bint Abdullah Al-Maawali, Director of the Information Reports Department at NCSI, stated that the survey aims to measure Omanis' perspectives on the labour sector and examine trends in sports participation and recreational activities. Additionally, it seeks to assess public satisfaction with available tourism services across various governorates.
In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), she explained that the survey targets Omani men and women aged 18 and above, with data being collected through phone interviews.
She urged all targeted citizens to actively participate and share their opinions objectively, emphasizing that their input will contribute to the development and enhancement of the services provided to them.
Al-Maawali reaffirmed that all collected data will be handled with strict confidentiality in accordance with Royal Decree No. 55/2019, particularly Article (11), which mandates that individual statistical data remains confidential and may only be used for statistical purposes in an aggregated form.

According to NCSI, the survey covers three key areas: the labour market, sports and recreational preferences, and satisfaction with tourism services available across the country. Suad bint Abdullah al Maawali, Director of the Information Reports Department at NCSI, said the initiative is designed to capture citizen feedback on the employment sector and identify the types of recreational and sporting activities people engage in. It also aims to assess satisfaction levels with tourism services in different governorates. The project is part of wider efforts to ensure national development initiatives are guided by current and comprehensive data. Citizens are encouraged to participate and provide candid responses to help shape future strategies. Officials noted that the findings will play a pivotal role in evaluating and refining initiatives aligned with Oman Vision 2040, with a focus on improving public services and enhancing overall quality of life.

Oman calls for peace in Middle East

The Sultanate of Oman has been leading the negotiations between the US and Iran for reaching a sustainable and honourable agreement. In the wake of the current crisis, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik received a phone call on Friday from Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of the Italian Republic. During the call, they discussed the regional developments amid escalating tensions and exchanged views on ways to de-escalate the situation and reduce tensions, in a manner that maintains security and stability for the benefit of all peoples in the region. The Prime Minister of Italy expressed her deep appreciation for the wise approach and constructive role undertaken by the Sultanate of Oman, under the leadership of His Majesty, in supporting de-escalation efforts and promoting dialogue and diplomacy in the region. The two sides also discussed a set of matters of mutual interest, reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two nations. Meanwhile , a series of phone calls continued between Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister and a number of counterparts across the region and the globe on Saturday. The phone calls come as part of the ongoing diplomatic efforts to contain the dangerous military escalation and tensions in the region, triggered by Israel's direct attacks on Iranian territory since the early hours of Friday morning. Over these calls, Sayyid Badr underscored the importance of halting the aggression and deterring the aggressor through peaceful means, based on international law and justice, in order to prevent further bloodshed, destruction, and loss of life, and to safeguard the security, stability, and the supreme interests of the region and its peoples. Meanwhile, Iran has announced its withdrawal from the sixth round of nuclear negotiations with the United States, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 15, 2025 in Muscat, Oman. Oman News Agency and Iranian state television reported that the talks have been suspended until further notice, the diplomatic efforts that aimed at restricting Iran's nuclear program. The decision follows recent Israeli airstrikes in Iran. The cancelled session was expected to address disagreements over uranium enrichment limits and U.S. sanctions relief.
