Company, two directors charged with using fake Sirim stickers on retreaded tyres
The company, Yik Woh Tyre Enterprise Sdn Bhd, represented by its directors Yip Wei Leong and Yip Wing Kee as the accused, pleaded not guilty before judge Ahmad Fuad Othman.
According to the charge, the company, Wei Leong, 43, and Wing Kee, 70, were, in the course of trade, found to have made false representations by using Sirim MS 224:2005 logo stickers on 107 retreated tyres of various brands and sizes for supply without Sirim's approval.
The offence was allegedly committed at No. 11, 13 and 15, Jalan Meranti 11, Meranti Jaya Industrial Park, Puchong, at 11.30am on Feb 13.
The charges against the two directors were framed under Section 21(b) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, which carries a maximum fine of RM200,000 or imprisonment of up to three years, or both, upon conviction. For a second or subsequent offence, the penalty is a maximum fine of RM500,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
Meanwhile, the company was charged under Section 21(a) of the same law, which provides for a fine of up to RM500,000, and for a second or subsequent offence, a maximum fine of RM1mil.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Hafizi Abdul Halim and prosecuting officer Nur Abyan Anuar from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, while the accused were represented by lawyer Aaron Chang.
Earlier, Mohd Hafizi applied for both men to be granted bail of RM20,000 each. However, Chang requested a reduction on the grounds of one of the accused's age and the good cooperation they had provided.
The court set bail at RM10,000 in one surety each accused and fixed Sept 25 for mention. - Bernama

SEREMBAN: Police arrested three suspected unlicensed money lenders, also known as "Ah Long," yesterday as part of an operation in the city. Mara approves RM500k aid for PWD entrepreneurs in 2025
SIBU: More than 20 applications for assistance from entrepreneurs with disabilities (PWD) nationwide have been approved by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) this year, involving over RM500,000 in funding. Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang stated that the aid includes grants and interest-free loans of up to RM50,000 per applicant, tailored to business requirements. 'In Sarawak, two disabled entrepreneurs have benefited, including Mohamad Hazemi Mat, a deaf owner of Duri Cendol, and another in Matang, Kuching,' she said during a visit to the cendol business. Rubiah noted that Mohamad Hazemi's venture, operational since December 2023, now earns over RM35,000 monthly and employs seven deaf and mute workers. She highlighted MARA's dedication to fostering PWD entrepreneurship through training, financial aid, and business development initiatives. Rubiah also proposed a special fund for Bumiputera contractors in Sarawak focusing on high-tech and green energy sectors. 'This fund aims to cultivate more Bumiputera entrepreneurs in technology and renewable energy, unlocking new opportunities,' she explained. She stressed the need for MARA and the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development to review the proposal before implementation. SIBU, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- More than 20 applications for assistance from entrepreneurs who are people with disabilities (PWD) across the country have been approved by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) this year, involving an allocation of over RM500,000. Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang said the assistance includes grants and interest-free loans of up to RM50,000 per person, depending on business needs. "In Sarawak, two disabled entrepreneurs have received this special funding, including Mohamad Hazemi Mat, 31, the owner of Duri Cendol here, who is also deaf, and another in Matang, Kuching," she said when met by reporters after a friendly visit to the Duri Cendol premises last night. Rubiah said Mohamad Hazemi's business, which has been operating since December 2023, is now recording a monthly income exceeding RM35,000, in addition to employing seven deaf and mute disabled workers. She emphasised that MARA is committed to helping the disabled become successful entrepreneurs through a comprehensive support ecosystem that includes training, grants, loans, monitoring, and business development programmes. Rubiah said she had also proposed to MARA the establishment of a special fund to assist Bumiputera contractors in Sarawak involved in the high-tech and renewable energy (green energy) industries. The funds, she said, is aimed at producing more Bumiputera entrepreneurs in the technology and green energy sectors, thereby opening up new business opportunities in Sarawak. "I have asked MARA if they can help create such a funds so that we can produce more Bumiputera entrepreneurs in technology and renewable energy industries. "We need to bring this proposal to MARA's management and also to the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development itself for a decision," she said.
