'I have given clear instructions to enforcement bodies: if there are any elements – whether prominent figures, politicians, community leaders or ordinary citizens – engaged in threats or incitement, take action. 'The country's safety and peace must be preserved, regardless of race, religion, wealth or status.' Recent incidents, including cases of racial and religious tensions, bullying in schools and workplaces, and the deaths of students, have all been worrying. These instances, he said, must be properly addressed by enforcement bodies, educators, parents and the public. 'This is not something that can be solved through policy announcements or enforcement alone. 'It must come from the people's awareness that we are building a nation with strong economic growth alongside high moral values,' Anwar said in his speech at the 20th Civil Service Premier Assembly here yesterday. Citing as examples the death of schoolgirl Zara Qairina Mahathir in Sabah and the improper handling of the national flag, he warned against exploiting such issues to inflame political sentiments. Anwar also underscored the need for investigations to be conducted promptly, transparently and fairly, without public prejudgment. 'If you follow the law and are willing to act, you can keep your position. 'If you can't, we will replace you with someone principled and courageous. 'This is not a popularity contest. This is about saving the nation,' he added. The Prime Minister warned against both the 'tyranny of the majority' and the 'tyranny of the minority,' reiterating his government's policy of zero tolerance of racism and religious bigotry. He said Malaysia's reputation as a peaceful nation capable of contributing to regional and international peace efforts depends on upholding justice and the rule of law.

‘Paired flags symbolic of harmony, unity'

KOTA KINABALU: Sabahans have been urged to fly the Jalur Gemilang and state flag to symbolise unity and patriotism. State Information Department director Jainisah Mohd Noor said in a diverse and multi-cultural country like Malaysia, the act of flying both flags will prove a point. 'It shows that Malaysians, including Sabahans, live harmoniously in a multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural set up. 'Despite differences, we share one spirit and the same vision – to live as one in peace and prosperity,' she said when officiating the Malaysia Day and Sabah Day Jiwa Madani Carnival held at Felda Sahabat, Lahad Datu. The carnival was held jointly with the Sahabat Maritim X Borneo Food Fest Santuni Felda event. Jainisah said both flags flown together would serve as a reminder that Malaysians lived together as a united community. She urged the people to stay united and preserve the peace and harmony enjoyed for so long. Jainisah, who also led the state Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2025 convoy, said the various programmes lined up leading up to National Day, Malaysia Day and Sabah Day, would serve as a bridge to connect the government with the people. 'From these programmes, we can see many agencies come together to meet the people and find out their needs,' she said. Among the 21 agencies and departments taking part in the programmes include the National Registration Department, Road Transport Department, Sabah Electricity, Wataniah and also financial institutions. Also present were state maritime director First Admiral (maritime) Mohd Khairulanuar Abd Majid @ Razali and Tungku Community Development leader Momen Anghai @ Anchai.

Akmal now under probe over viral video posting
PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh over a video that is alleged to have hate content. Penang police chief Comm Datuk Azizee Ismail said Bukit Mertajam police received a report on Aug 12 regarding a video that went viral on Facebook under the account name 'Akmal Salleh'. 'In the video, Akmal is said to have made a statement that could be categorised as hate content, which has the potential to cause unrest among the community and disrupt public peace,' he said in a statement yesterday. Comm Azizee added that police have initiated an investigation under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 506 of the Penal Code. He said the initial investigation was conducted by Penang police, but the case was taken over by the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department yesterday. To date, two reports have been lodged over the matter in Penang. Dr Muhamad Akmal has also been summoned by the police to have his statement recorded over a demonstration in Kepala Batas, Penang. In a Facebook post, he said an investigating officer from Bukit Aman had contacted him to request that he provide his statement at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters. On Thursday, Dr Muhamad Akmal led a group, which consisted of Umno Youth and Bersatu members, among others, in a march over an incident in which a Jalur Gemilang was displayed upside down at a hardware store. The demonstration passed without major incident, except for a brief war of words between the group and representatives from Lawyers for Liberty.
