Report: Liverpool in talks for defender Van Dijk adores
Liverpool in Direct Talks for Jorrel Hato as Van Dijk's Endorsement Adds Weight
Quansah Exit Sparks Defensive Search
Liverpool's summer transfer window is shaping up to be more eventful than expected, particularly in defence. As Jarell Quansah edges closer to a move to Bayer Leverkusen, the Reds are already making proactive strides in identifying his replacement. While Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi remains a top target due to his Premier League experience and homegrown status, journalist Duncan Castles has revealed that Liverpool are in 'direct conversations' with Ajax over 19-year-old Jorrel Hato.

Speaking on The Transfers Podcast, Castles reported that Ajax are 'open to selling' and aware of the discussions between the clubs. Hato is attracting serious interest, with Chelsea and Arsenal also said to be monitoring the Dutch defender. However, Liverpool may have a crucial edge in the form of Virgil van Dijk.
Van Dijk's Approval Carries Weight
Daily Mail reporter Lewis Steele confirmed on his YouTube channel that Hato is 'definitely on the list' at Anfield and revealed Van Dijk 'absolutely adores' his young compatriot. That glowing endorsement from the Liverpool captain should not be taken lightly. If anyone knows what it takes to thrive in the Reds' defensive line, it's Van Dijk.

Not Just a Back-Up Option
While Guehi might still be the priority due to his Premier League pedigree, Hato isn't just a consolation prize. He offers a different profile: younger, technically polished, and already battle-tested in European competition.

If Liverpool can move decisively, they might just steal a march on their domestic rivals – and in doing so, secure a defender Van Dijk not only rates, but reveres.
Our View – Anfield Index Analysis
From a Liverpool fan's perspective, this link to Jorrel Hato feels like a forward-thinking masterstroke. The loss of Quansah would undoubtedly sting, particularly after his breakout 2023–24 campaign, but replacing him with someone of Hato's pedigree and versatility could soften the blow.
What stands out is the number of senior appearances Hato has already made for Ajax – 111 matches by 19 is almost unheard of, and speaks volumes about his maturity. Combine that with a sky-high pass completion rate and elite aerial metrics, and it's easy to see why Van Dijk is such a big fan. His endorsement will resonate deeply with supporters and probably with the recruitment team as well.

There's also a clear sense that Hato would suit Arne Slot's system, especially with the focus on technical ball progression and positional flexibility. A left-footed option who can play centrally, tuck into midfield or shift wide – that's a modern defender tailor-made for elite football.
It's worth noting that beating Arsenal and Chelsea to Hato would also send a strong message: Liverpool are still one of the most attractive projects in Europe, even amidst change. If this deal progresses, fans will be rightly excited. This could be one for the present and the future.

Rookies Dallas Mavericks Should Target to Pair With Cooper Flagg in Trade Scenario
Rookies Dallas Mavericks Should Target to Pair With Cooper Flagg in Trade Scenario originally appeared on Athlon Sports. This Wednesday, players from all over the world will be waiting with bated breath to find out if their name will be called to join the elite in the NBA. The Dallas Mavericks own the first overall pick and are widely expected to draft the most talented player in this year's draft, Cooper Flagg from Duke. Advertisement However, the Mavericks have not been shy about their need for a point guard. Moreover, if they are taking a page out of the success of the Indiana Pacers, they are going to look for a guard who can create shots for both his teammates and himself. Rafael Barlowe, the co-host of the Locked On NBA Big Board podcast, said on a recent episode of their podcast that the Mavericks may be exploring ways to get back into the first round. If they are able to do this, they may consider drafting one of the following, should they be available. Nolan Traore, G France Nolan Traore, a 6-3 guard out of France, is widely considered to be one of the top prospects in this draft. If you take his stats from this past year, where he played for Saint-Quentin, and look at them per 36 minutes of play, he would have averaged 18.5 points, 8.1 assists, and 2.8 rebounds. Advertisement Two of the drawbacks with Traore are his shooting percentage from 3, and his turnover numbers. He struggled to shoot the ball from deep last year, logging a mere 30.4 percent from behind the arc. He also averaged 2.5 turnovers per game. These are areas that the Mavericks coaching staff would need to work with him on if he is going to take the reins until the possible return of Kyrie Irving. Nique Clifford, G/F Colorado State Nique Clifford is an intriguing prospect. A 6-6 guard from Colorado State is both a playmaker and a shooter. Last season, he averaged a career-high 18.9 points per game. He also contributed with 9.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He proved he can score at any level, averaging 49.6 percent from the floor as a whole and 37.7 percent from behind the arc. Advertisement Clifford could definitely be a great fit for the Mavericks as either a tall guard or if the opposing team is playing a small-ball lineup, he could slide down and play the small forward position and still be effective on the defensive end. He is also one of the older players in the draft, and his maturity may make him an instant plug-and-play type of player. Walter Clayton Jr, G Florida Walter Clayton Jr, fresh off the Florida Gators' national championship run, is another intriguing prospect that the Mavericks could target late in the first round. He is a 6-3 guard who can score at will, but also can facilitate the offense. He will do whatever is necessary for the team to win. Advertisement He averaged 18.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game, while shooting a scorching 44.8 percent from the floor. He also shot nearly 38..6 percent from deep. He is a guard who could contribute and fit what the Mavericks need right away as someone to facilitate the offense, but occasionally knock down shots if needed. The Dallas Mavericks' offense last season, especially after the injury to Kyrie Irving, looked very stagnant at times. There seemed to be a thought process of getting Anthony Davis the ball, and then standing around and watching him try to score. They have to find someone who can get open shots for their scorers like Klay Thompson and PJ Washington Jr. Clayton Jr could very well fit that mold. Lehecka stuns Draper to reach Queen's final
Czech world number 30 Jiri Lehecka stunned Britain's Jack Draper to reach the Queen's Club final with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 victory on Saturday. Lehecka blasted 36 winners and hit 16 aces to end Draper's bid for a maiden final appearance at the Wimbledon warm-up event in west London. Advertisement The 23-year-old will face French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz or Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut in Sunday's final. "It means a lot. You don't meet a player like Jack every day, he's an amazing competitor," Lehecka said. "It's not easy to use my serve (on grass) but I've been working on it for the last few weeks. I'm happy with it." Draper was hoping to become the first British singles champion at Queen's since five-time winner Andy Murray's most recent victory in 2016. After booking his spot in the semi-finals Draper revealed he had held the Queen's trophy as a child around 12 years ago. Advertisement But Draper, ranked sixth in the world, will have to wait at least another year to get his hands back on the silverware after producing an unusually error-strewn display in sweltering conditions. Lehecka had already ended the hopes of one Briton at Queen's after beating Jacob Fearnley in the quarter-finals on Friday. The 23-year-old also defeated world number 12 Alex de Minaur in his opening match of the tournament, but knocking out Draper was his biggest scalp yet. Draper's careless double-fault gifted Lehecka a break in the opening game of the first set. The ice-cool Lehecka ignored the searing temperatures as he cruised through the rest of the set. Advertisement Draper needed to apply pressure on Lehecka to get back in the match and he did exactly that in the fourth game of the second set. Even then, Lehecka staved off four break points and repelled another in the sixth. But Draper kept slugging away from the baseline and finally landed a big blow with a winner down the line on set point. Rock legend and avid tennis fan Jon Bon Jovi, watching in the stands, rose from his seat to salute Draper's gritty fightback. Draper had been living on a prayer for two sets and his luck ran out in the 11th game of the deciding set when Lehecka crushed a backhand winner to break. Smashing his racquet into the advertising boards in frustration, Draper couldn't muster a response and Lehecka was soon celebrating his memorable success. smg/pi
