Ravindra Jadeja Drops Catch After Nasty Collision With Matheesha Pathirana
Last Updated:
Matheesha Pathirana and Ravindra Jadeja were involved in an on-field collision which resulted in a dropped catch of the in-form Jacob Bethell.
Things were not going well for the Chennai Super Kings in their away clash against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru as two of their star players took a heavy blow as they collided whilst taking a catch in the Indian Premier League 2025 clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday evening.
Jacob Bethell, the young English all-rounder, lit up an absolute storm at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, scoring boundaries left, right and centre through the batting powerplay in the first innings. CSK seemed to have their chance when Bethell looked to slam one against Anshul Kamboj but got the top-edge onto the short third-man region, but both Matheesha Pathirana and Ravindra Jadeja did not communicate clearly. The latter had made the call, but the young Sri Lankan international did not hear it and came in charging.

Pathirana soon made up for his fumble but it was too late as RCB went on to score 97 runs in 9.5 overs. Virat Kohli also went on to score his half-century as well to put RCB well ahead in this fixture. RCB will want to get the win to ensure that they take the top spot in the points table.
Chennai Super Kings had won the toss and opted to bowl first. They also fielded an unchanged playing 11. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru decided to make just the one change to their side by bringing in Lungi Ngidi in place of the experienced Josh Hazlewood.
Chennai Super Kings: MS Dhoni (c & wk), Shaik Rasheed, Ayush Mhatre, Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja, Dewald Brevis, Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, Noor Ahmad, Khaleel Ahmed, Matheesha Pathirana.

IPL 2025 Final Breaks Viewership Record As RCB Lifts Maiden Title After 18 Years
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final turned into more than just a cricket match—it became a cultural phenomenon. On June 3, an electrifying contest between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings drew an unprecedented 169 million television viewers, the highest ever for any cricket match in India. The Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) confirmed that this staggering figure eclipsed the 2021 T20 World Cup clash between India and Pakistan, which previously held the record at 166 million. This record-breaking viewership was not just about numbers—it was symbolic. After 18 long seasons, RCB finally lifted their maiden IPL trophy, giving fans a long-awaited fairytale ending. The narrative was ripe for history, and Indian audiences responded with unwavering attention. The final was held on a weekday, yet it recorded a Television Rating (TVR) of 11, the third-highest in IPL history. TVR, which measures the percentage of target audience reached and the time spent watching, revealed just how deeply audiences were engaged during the high-octane finale. The match racked up an astounding 15 billion watch-minutes, comfortably surpassing the 14.2 billion minutes clocked during the India vs South Africa T20 World Cup 2024 final. These figures highlight not only the growing appeal of IPL but also the deep-rooted emotional investment fans have in their teams—especially one with as passionate a following as RCB. A Season Interrupted but Not Derailed The 2025 IPL season was anything but smooth. A sudden one-week suspension due to the India-Pakistan geopolitical conflict raised concerns over fan retention. However, when action resumed on May 17, audiences returned in droves, proving the league's unmatched pull. According to IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, both TV and digital platforms saw strong traction, despite the disruption. The championship concluded on June 3, having started on March 22, with 17 matches played post-resumption. Opening Weekend Set the Tone The momentum was evident from day one. The opening weekend alone drew over 253 million viewers and logged 27.7 billion watch-minutes—setting the stage for what would become one of the most watched IPL seasons in history. The third league match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians also featured high on the viewership chart with 163 million viewers, showcasing the league's consistent ability to captivate fans. RCB's Victory: The Emotional Core RCB's first-ever IPL title win served as the emotional glue that held millions of fans in thrall. For a team that had reached the finals thrice before—only to fall agonizingly short—this win was redemption. The scenes at the stadium and on social media painted a picture of sheer euphoria. Stars like Virat Kohli, who had long shouldered the franchise's hopes, were at the heart of the celebration, making the moment even more iconic. What This Means for Sports Broadcasting The record-smashing IPL 2025 final is more than a sports milestone; it's a media and marketing marvel. With BARC viewership peaking and engagement metrics off the charts, advertisers and broadcasters alike are re-evaluating the power of live sports in a fragmented content landscape. Despite JioStar, the official TV and digital partner, choosing not to comment on the numbers, the data speaks volumes. The IPL brand continues to redefine live sports entertainment in India, offering not just cricket but high-impact storytelling, emotional resonance, and unbeatable reach.

"That Team Had Guts...": Ravi Shastri's '2021-22' Reminder As Gautam Gambhir's India Embark On England Tour
Former Team India head coach and all-rounder Ravi Shastri recalled his memories with Virat Kohli-led Team India in Test cricket, especially their performances during the tours to Australia and England during his tenure. Shastri spoke as quoted by a press release from Sony LIV, the official broadcasters of India's tour to England, starting from June 20 onwards at Leeds. This series marks the start of India's ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle and a new-era under skipper Shubman Gill following retirement of star batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Tests and all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin from all international cricket. With the much-anticipated India tour of England around the corner, Sony Sports Network brings fans a timely and emotional reminder of the last time the Men in Blue made headlines on English soil. The network announced the launch of "Bharat Tum Chale Chalo - Kahani 2021-22 Ki" - a compelling three-part docuseries that revisits Team India's incredible 2021-22 Test campaign in England, which saw India lead the series 2-1 under Virat's captaincy before COVID-19 led to postponement of the fifth and final Test to July 2022 and by then, Virat had stepped down as India's Test captain. India lost the final Test under Jasprit Bumrah's captaincy to draw the series 2-2. The first episode of the three-episode series premieres on Sunday, June 15 at Sony Sports Ten 1, Sony Sports Ten 3, Sony Sports Ten 4, Sony Sports Ten 5 channels and will also be available to stream on Sony LIV. Speaking about the Test team in his tenure, which registered some landmark wins in England, Australia and South Africa, including two successive series wins in Australia under leadership of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, Shastri said, "That team had guts, fire, and the belief that they could conquer anything, anywhere. Whether it was breaching Fortress Gabba or unleashing '60 overs of hell' at Lord's, they did not just play cricket, they made a statement. This series captures what went on behind the scenes: the hunger, the preparation, and the emotional highs and lows. It is a story every Indian cricket fan should relive because that was not just a team, it was a movement." During India's fine run in Test cricket from 2014-2022 under Virat as captain, they won 40 out of 68 Tests he led in, making him one of India's most successful Test skipper. When he left the Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour to Australia in late-2020 due to birth of his first child, it was Rahane who stepped in as skipper, leading an inexperienced, injury-ridden Team India to a series win against Australia by 2-1, which included a very special win at The Gabba in Brisbane, where Aussies had not lost a Test in over 32 years. In the series against England from August to September 2021, of which the first four Tests were played under Virat's captaincy, during the second Lord's Test, Virat had uttered the words in a huddle talk before the defence of 272 runs, saying "For 60 overs, they should feel hell out there". India indeed accepted their captain's word, bundling out England for just 120 runs to win the Test. India's unbeaten run continued at home under skipper Rohit Sharma, but came crashing down last year when New Zealand handed them their first-ever whitewash loss at home. A further 1-3 loss to Aussies away from home eliminated India from the WTC final race. Under the captaincy of skipper Shubman Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir, India will be aiming to start afresh. The series will be held from June to August 2025, with matches scheduled at Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord's and The Oval in London, and Old Trafford in Manchester. India's Test squad for England series: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.
