Ulrika Jonsson hits back at cruel trolls who criticised her looks

Yahoo21-07-2025
Ulrika Jonsson has hit back at cruel trolls who accused her of looking too "tanned" and "old".
The 57-year-old TV presenter has admitted she was hurt by the "nasty comments" she received after making a recent appearance on a podcast in which she was not wearing any make-up - warning online haters not to "constantly judge" people by their looks and that "making people feel s*** doesn't make you a hero".
In a post on Instagram, she wrote: "I feel I need to address something. I don't get a lot of nasty comments - or if I do, I don't see them or send people love in response.
"But a couple of weeks ago I took part in a fab podcast @untapped.podcast to discuss my sobriety with the smart @spencermatthews.
"I wore no make-up. Partly because I kinda forgot that a project for the ears is nowadays also a feast for the eyes."
Ulrika went on to insist she doesn't like wearing make-up because she spent so many years being primped for her TV appearances and she has also battled skin condition eczema since childhood.
She added: "As someone who has had to wear heavy make-up on screen from 5am for years, I'm not a fan.
"Most crucially tho, since childhood I've suffered from eczema. On my body - the creases of my arms and legs - on my face - eyes and lips. Make-up has always been the enemy because it's been agony to wear."
Ulrika went on to address the trolling she received, writing: "There were a lot of positive comments about the WORDS I said on the podcast. But a considerable amount about my tanned appearance. AND how OLD I look.
"In a few weeks I will be 58. I will never look like the fresh 21yr old [sic] that used to greet you first thing in the morning by the weather board.
"I'm not ashamed to say that I am a sun worshipper and will no doubt pay the price for that. But UV lamps and salt baths, astringent solutions and creams were a feature of my life since I was a small child.
"I have uneven pigmentation doubtlessly not helped by ageing. I sometimes use filters in my pics because it's easier than foundation and less painful.
"I work tirelessly in my garden year round and often in the sun. I rarely sunbathe any more. Haven't had a sunbed for 6 months - which I do occasionally in winter months. Not ashamed.
"I have not had a holiday - of any kind - since 2018. That's 7yrs. So, I understand that an over-tanned, imperfect and AGEING face offends you. But try to listen to the words rather than constantly judge women's appearance.
"You might learn something. And making people feel s*** doesn't make you a hero."

En Iwamura Channels Emptiness and Serenity in New Sculptures

En Iwamura, the Japanese artist celebrated for his Jomon handicraft-inspired pop ceramics, has partnered up with London-basedAvant Arteto release a pair of sculptural editions, titled 'Neo Jomon: Biomorphic fantôme.' The sculptures embody the Japanese philosophy of ma, described by the artist as a presence that 'exists between one thing another,' and 'between moments in time.' This concept lays at the heart of Iwamura's work, as his endearing, often undulating, figures foreground the ever-flowing energy between object and space. Carved from white and red Bardiglio Nuvolato marble, each sculpture's organic form and raked textures recall the serenity of Zen Buddhist gardens, emphasizing the importance of ma, while encouraging collectors to envision it within their own lives. For those looking to purchase, each color of the 'Neo Jomon: Biomorphic fantome' sculptures is limited to an edition of 25 and measures at 11.42' x 7.87' x 7.09'. Starting August 28, the work will be available for $5,351 USD. Head to Avant Arte'swebsitenow through August 27 to enter the draw.

'Brian Potter' kicks off over three-month wait to get a sinkhole repaired

Brian Potter's voice is even higher than usual. The Bolton nightclub owner is fuming about a hole in the road. The sinkhole appeared on May 4 and despite dozens of phone calls to Bury Council and United Utilities it has still not been fixed. Now Potter - alias Connor O'Brien, a resident of Wingate Drive in Whitefield - has made a video demanding action. Trained as an actor he has the Peter Kay character's squeaky tones down to a tee. But his message and those of fellow residents in the cul-de-sac is serious. They believe the hole is dangerous and delivery vans to the long road have been unable to get access due to the cavity being surrounded by barriers. I don't care who's to blame, right, we want a response now". In the clip he is then seen in the hole on top of his wheelchair, and says "Christ almighty look what's happened. I was driving my chair and fell in - get it sorted." Connor said: "What motivated me to do it was how much upset it has caused my neighbours in the street. Residents were getting wound up and no one seemed to be taking responsibility for it. I am not very academic, so instead of writing emails I thought the only way I can help is injecting a bit of light hearted banter on social media. "I was given a wheelchair through a theatre company. I think Potter's message to Bury Council and United Utilities would be 'get my hole filled in. Potter's barmy army, you have got to be on it.' "It is a bit of comedy but there is a serious message. The cavity is falling in and it is a danger to pedestrians and drivers. I have and agent and went to drama school in London but actually worked in stage management in the West End. Then I went on the cruise ships as a host and thought I would never work backstage again." Resident Sue Stott has kept a diary of the "farce" involving the hole. It was discovered by children on May 4th and reported to Bury council the next day. Bury council sent out a team on June 3rd who said it was a "sewer" problem. The council did replace a bollard placed around the hole after it was clipped and damaged by a lorry trying to get past. Sue's diary records numerous phone calls from several neighbours to both the council and United Utilitiesover the last three months. In one entry for July 1st a member of staff from United Utilities said they had been given no notice of the work by the council. A team from United Utilities did come out on July 18th but the hole has still not been repaired. Three local councillors and MP Christian Wakeford have contacted both the council and United Utilities in a bid to get the job done. Sue said: "People in the street did think of stopping paying their council tax and United Utilities bills. But although they are not helping us, we didn't want to break the law. "I spoke to United Utilities this week. I said I wanted to put in a complaint and he said he would ring me back by Thursday (this week). I said do you realise the hole is in-filling. It is coming from the sides and therefore the tarmac underneath on either side could be going down. This is a dangerous hole. He said he would upgrade it and be back to me by 8pm tonight." Yesterday one resident had to put the barriers back in place as they had been blown down by heavy winds. "But vehicles going past are nudging them into the hole to get through," said Sue. "There must be some conversation between them (the council and United Utilities) to ease getting it done. Why is there not a system in place for communication? Talk to each other." A couple of hours after the Manchester Evening News made inquiries about the fiasco workmen from United Utilities arrived at the hole and erected different yellow barriers with the notice "We're working on the sewer pipes". But no work commenced. Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group HERE A spokesperson for Bury Council said: "It is not for us to fix. United Utilities have accepted responsibility." In a message on social media United Utilities have told one resident in the street: "Hi, thank you for getting in touch. I have just been speaking with another resident in the area about the same issue. We're currently planning a date for us to carry out the repairs, and the job reference is 07899881. Thanks." But the resident replied:"You now appear to accept responsibility but give no timeline to repair, it's already been 3 months!!! This is an accident waiting to happen, photo taken today showing the barriers moved in the wind leaving open hole which could easily been missed in the dark!" A United Utilities spokesperson said: 'We apologise to residents of Wingate Drive for the delay in dealing with this and for any inconvenience caused. Our team has attended this afternoon to carry out further investigations and get our safety barriers in place to ensure the necessary repair work can be delivered as quickly as possible.'

Netflix's ‘Wednesday' Season Two Press Tour: All the Best Hair and Makeup Moments

To promote the premiere of the 'Wednesday' second season on Netflix, the supernatural thriller series inspired by The Addams Family, castmates Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joy Sunday and Emma Myers have tactically spun a web of moody and ultra-Mod beauty aesthetics on press tour stops in London, Paris and New York. Already, they've set the fall makeup agenda, tossing out the existing 'clean girl' trend for a 'tired girl' alternative comprised of hauntingly bold lip shapes and hollowed out eyes, carving out the face skeleton. With the help of makeup artist Mélanie Inglessis, Ortega fell victim to her character, Wednesday's, draconian ego through the juxtaposition of plum-stained lips and bleached brows. Meanwhile, Zeta-Jones, Sunday and Myers have followed suit, positioning the lip as the color of choice for the forthcoming spooky season. The hair hasn't been as consistent. In fact, the styles have oscillated between dramatic extensions, protruding buns and messy waves. For the London premiere of 'Wednesday' season two, the first stop on the press tour, Ortega pared back her fashion to match the naked aesthetic of her bleached eyebrows. With no defining brow shape, the 22-year-old actress and her makeup artist, Inglessis, accentuated her bone structure with faded blush under her cheeks and mauve shadow circling her eyes, creating the illusion of two black eyes. Enlarged freckles added to the theatrics of the look, tickling her nose on top of her stained lips. Ortega's bottom lashes clung together like long spider legs, while dark brown extensions were knotted halfway down her low ponytail by hair artist Cesar Deleon Ramirez. Zeta-Jones morphed into her character, Morticia Addams, at the London premiere last week with Gothic glam constructed by Brett Freedman. Together, the two replaced bronzy makeup with rusty, charcoal tones, and, of course, plum. Zeta-Jones' brown eyes shrunk next to the heavy shadow reaching all the way to her brow bone. Unlike Morticia, Zeta-Jones and Freedman worked to bring color into her base, forgoing the signature ghostlike visage akin to the entire Addams family. The actress opted for a perfectly rounded bun on the top of her head to allow the silver and gold cage earrings locking her ears to show. Myers, the talent behind Wednesday's roommate, Enid Sinclair, in the show, conversely, kept a pasty, pale visage, drawing attention to her deep plum lipstick. Gold shimmer eye shadow breathed air into her otherwise blank countenance, while her side fringe framed her face. Myers worked with makeup architect Dana Delaney and hair artist Hiroki Kojima on the look. Sunday, the actress who plays Bianca Barclay in the series, shot the cameras a death stare outside the London premiere last week. Under her red porkpie hat, Sunday's eyes were dressed in forest green shadow, while her parted lips were painted in a purple matte shade. The green hues dragged across her lash line and in her waterline stood out next to her red knit ensemble. Ortega chameleoned into a hybrid version of Wednesday Addams for the Paris premiere of 'Wednesday' season two. Rather than playing with the achromatic aesthetic of the terrifying teenager, Ortega and Inglessis focused on nude, earth tones. Ortega's hair extensions were removed and her eye makeup was toned-down, which gave way to her effortlessly exhausted countenance. Like a whisper in the morning, Ortega strode down the New York City street to 'Good Morning America' on Monday under a black porkpie hat and straightened extensions. Only the right side of her face was visible beneath the wide-brimmed accessory and the Dezi Sly cat-eye sunglasses, and because most of her visage was hidden from the naked eye, her face makeup was kept to a minimum, even her lips. Outside the 'Late Night With Seth Meyers' studio in New York City, Ortega leaned into the Gothic, 'tired girl' beauty trend she inspired once more. This time, she used a kaleidoscope of purple, white, silver and gray hues to hollow out her eyes under her barely-there eyebrows. Ortega kept her elongated hair from earlier in the morning, only this time she added stretched waves. Freckles still dotted her nose like a constellation, while her cheeks were void of bronzer and blush. Her lips, on the other hand, introduced rosy color to the even-toned base.
