‘SNL50' Ratings: Anniversary Special Hits 14.8 Million Viewers on NBC, More Than 200% Above Season Average

Yahoo18-02-2025

NBC's 50th anniversary special for 'Saturday Night Live' hit a very strong 14.8 million viewers on average across NBC and Peacock on Sunday night.
That number is 202% above the average number of viewers who have tuned into each regular episode of 'SNL' throughout its 50th season, which is 4.9 million — itself a 13% improvement on last season's same-day viewership. And among the key adults 18-49 demographic, the special scored a 2.5 rating.

According to NBC, this is the network's most-watched primetime entertainment telecast (meaning non-sports and non-news) in five years, since the 2020 Golden Globes Awards, as well as the fourth-most-watched entertainment telecast of all time on Peacock, only coming behind three Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade telecasts.
Additionally, it can be expected that viewership for 'SNL50: The Anniversary Special' will grow significantly in delayed viewing on Peacock and other digital platforms: Accounting for seven days of delayed viewing, 'SNL' Season 50's viewership average is 8.4 million, a 71% increase from the 4.9 million Live + Same Day total. (Each of these statistics comes from a combination of Nielsen's measurement of linear viewers who tune into 'SNL' via NBC and NBCUniversal's own data regarding streams on Peacock.)
It should also be noted that 'SNL' gets a significant portion of its viewership on YouTube, where, for example, Sunday's 'Black Jeopardy' sketch has already reached 2.8 million views. NBC reports that the special reached 8.7 million social interactions and became the network's 'most social' entertainment telecast in two years as well as being the most social 'SNL' episode ever.
The official red carpet for 'SNL50' hit 6.5 million viewers across NBC, Peacock and E!, airing for the hour before the special with hosts Willie Geist and Leslie Jones plus correspondent Matt Rogers.
NBC did not report exact viewership for 'SNL50: The Homecoming Concert,' which aired on Friday night, but did share that the special hit nearly double the average reach of 'SNL' this season over a three-day period.
The culmination of a full season of programming celebrating the landmark anniversary, 'SNL50' was full of celebrity guests and returning 'SNL' cast members. Along with 'Black Jeopardy,' which featured Kenan Thompson, Eddie Murphy, Tom Hanks, Leslie Jones and Chris Rock, standouts included Jack Nicholson introducing a song by Adam Sandler, Robert De Niro in Rachel Dratch's 'Debbie Downer' sketch, Meryl Streep and Pedro Pascal in Kate McKinnon's alien abduction sketch and more. Musical performances included Sabrina Carpenter and Paul Simon opening the show with 'Homeward Bound,' Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard singing 'Nothing Compares 2 U' and Paul McCartney closing the special with a medley of 'Golden Slumbers,' 'Carry That Weight' and 'The End.'
'Saturday Night Live' and the anniversary special were created and executive produced by Lorne Michaels via his Broadway Video banner.

Mel B Walks Down the Aisle Before Wedding Without Fiance

While wedding jitters are common, Mel B's latest appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon shows she is ready to walk down the aisle with her fiance. The pop icon, who is now a returning judge on America's Got Talent, buzzed the audience as she hilariously practiced her wedding walk. Though her fiance was not present, an unsuspecting audience member drafted in as the fiance's substitute. Melani Brown, aka Spice Girl's Mel B, will soon tie the knot with her fiance. Ahead of her wedding, she practiced walking down the aisle with a lucky audience member. The pop legend described her fiance, Rory McPhee, as a 'beautiful soul' on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. But on stage at 30 Rock, McPhee was not present. Hence, Mel B asked an audience member, Max, to help her rehearse a walk down the aisle with her classic humor. With a bouquet in hand and Fallon providing commentary and comic encouragement, the Scary Spice proved her swagger. 'Can I get somebody from the audience?' she asked, greeting her unprepared stand-in with jokes. With laughter and her sassy attitude, the two walked, creating a perfect late-night show moment. Mel B quipped while flexing on her eligibility to host the wedding at London's St. Paul Cathedral, 'You have to be kind of special.' Notably, Princess Diana and Prince Charles's wedding took place at the same venue. Hence the pop singer emphasized the occasion to be a once-in-lifetime opportunity. She told Fallon, 'Not many people are allowed to get married there.' She explained her eligibility came courtesy of her being a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE). According to NBC, Mel was awarded the honor for raising awareness of domestic violence. Per NBC's TODAY, McPhee proposed to the artist at her favorite hotel, involving her dogs at the moment. Additionally, he sought Mel's late father's blessing at his grave, which she describes as 'so lovely.' Victoria Beckham is designing the singer's wedding dress along with her mother's. Mel B shared her excitement for the wedding while she talked about it with Jimmy Fallon. She also practiced walking down the aisle, proving her relationship with her fiance to be deeply meaningful. Dakota Johnson Reacts to Near-Wardrobe Malfunction on Jimmy Fallon's Show

Dakota Johnson recently experienced a near-wardrobe malfunction situation while on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.' The 'Fifty Shades of Grey' actor made a guest appearance in a new episode of the popular talk show, which was released on Tuesday, June 3. As soon as the actor sat down for her interview with the show's host, Jimmy Fallon, she realized that she had chosen the 'wrong outfit' for the talk show that day. Dakota Johnson recently had an almost wardrobe malfunction during her appearance in a new episode of 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.' After she sat down on the guest sofa on the talk show set, she looked uneasy in her outfit. She wore a chic black mini dress featuring long sleeves and a deep plunging neckline. The daring outfit nearly caused a wardrobe issue for the 'Madame Web' actor. At the beginning of her conversation with Jimmy Fallon, fans could see Dakota Johnson saying, 'This is the wrong outfit.' The audience members, along with the host, broke into laughter after hearing Johnson's comment about her outfit. However, Fallon tried his best to make the actor feel at ease by praising the dress and her look. 'You look great,' the host added. Soon after, both Dakota Johnson and Jimmy Fallon tried to move past the situation and talked about 'SNL 50.' Although the two managed to have a normal discussion for some time, Johnson's dress again interrupted their conversation. The actor asked Fallon to let her know if there was any 'problem' with the outfit. In response, the host said, 'There's almost a problem. But not quite.' After that, Dakota Johnson went on to ask the audience, 'Does anyone have like, a blanket I could wear?' Jimmy Fallon then gave her a tissue to cover the exposed area. After keeping the tissue for a moment, Johnson removed it and continued the rest of the interview like a true professional. Dakota Johnson stars in the highly anticipated rom-com movie 'Materialists.' The film is all set to debut on June 13. The main cast also includes Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans.
