Sundowns get the better of Ulsan in battle of the outsiders
ORLANDO, Florida, June 17 (Reuters) - Mamelodi Sundowns and Ulsan HD had targeted their Group F opener as their best chance to get a win on the board at the Club World Cup, with Brazil's Fluminense and German side Borussia Dortmund expected to advance from Group F.
South Africa's Sundowns took all three points with a 1-0 win over the South Koreans and went top of the group after Fluminense drew 0-0 with Dortmund.
African and Asian teams are not expected to make much of an impact at the new-look 32-team Club World Cup so points are like gold dust for the likes of the Sundowns and Ulsan.
Miguel Cardoso, Mamelodi Sundowns coach: 'We prepared tactically and strategically very well, and then we found a commitment between everybody. I think it was clear we made a very wonderful first half. It was important that we could keep the pace and not stray from the game plan in the second half, so that we could score a second goal that for little details or little centimetres, we could not do.'
Kim Pan-gon, Ulsan HD head coach: "We had targeted this game to win because we understand the other two teams in the group, Fluminense and Borussia Dortmund, are favourites. Our players gave their best efforts in this game and we're very proud of their efforts. Now we need to recover quickly for the next game.'

Why Kylian Mbappe is benched for Real Madrid vs Al-Hilal at Club World Cup
Kylian Mbappe will start on the bench for Real Madrid's opening Club World Cup match against Al-Hilal on Wednesday. Xabi Alonso begins his reign as Madrid's new head coach against last year's Saudi Pro League champions in Group H. However, Madrid will be without Mbappe in their starting line-up as he starts the game on the bench at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The 26-year-old, who scored 43 goals in his first season with Madrid, missed Tuesday's training session ahead of the game against Al-Hilal as he is suffering from a fever. 'Kylian was feeling a little better, but not enough,' Alonso said after Tuesday's training session. 'It's better for him not to train. We'll wait until the last minute, we'll decide tomorrow.' In Mbappe's absence, Alonso has opted to start 21-year-old striker Gonzalo Garcia, who has made just six senior appearances for Madrid, alongside Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo in attack. Tyreek Hill brutally mocks Noah Lyles after Olympic champion cancelled race over mysterious 'personal reasons'
Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill has gone on the offensive since American sprinter Noah Lyles dropped out of their proposed 100-meter foot race due to 'personal reasons.' Lyles, who won gold in the 100-meter dash at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has long been taunted by Hill, an NFL speedster who refers to himself as 'Cheetah.' The 27-year-old track-and-field star ultimately agreed to race the 31-year-old Hill, but has since reneged on that promise, as he explained at the Stagwell's Sport Beach at Cannes Lions on Monday. 'We were very deep into creating the event. In fact, it was supposed to happen this weekend,' Lyles said. 'Unfortunately there were some things, complications, personal reasons that it just didn't come to pass, but we were full on. 'We were gonna have a big event, we were going to shut down New York Times Square and everything, we were gonna have all the billboards for the event, it was going to be a lot of fun.' Hill, who recently posted a 10.15-second 100-meter performance at the Last Chance Sprint Series, has now responded on social media. Hill also posted pictures of himself on a track with a sign reading: 'Noah Could Never.' He included another comment in a caption: 'I was right.' In another court filing, Vaccaro said the Dolphins wideout disappeared for several days before returning to their Miami apartment on April 17 to 'unilaterally remove' their four-month-old daughter, Capri. 'The Husband returned to the home and announced that he was taking the baby, over the objections of the Wife who had invited him to spend time with the baby,' says the 'emergency' motion, filed within hours of the latest spat. 'When the police arrived, the police told the Wife that she had no choice except to let the Husband take the baby, and so she did.' Hill is reported to be the father of as many as a dozen children, including five in the last year alone.
