2025 NBA Draft: Nets projected to take F Noa Essengue with No. 8 pick

Yahoo22-05-2025

The Brooklyn Nets have the eighth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and that pick could be a player that makes a sizable impact on the franchise moving forward. Brooklyn will not be able to select Duke forward Cooper Flagg unless they are able to trade up to the first overall pick, but there is a promising player that the Nets could take at that spot.
In his latest mock draft for Bleacher Report, Jonathan Wasserman projected the Nets to select forward Noa Essengue at the No. 8 spot in the Draft. Essengue plays for Ratiopharm Ulm of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), considered the best professional basketball league in Germany and he has been making splashes for his club that has led to him getting buzz for being taken in the Lottery.

"Big scoring outputs are becoming more common for Noa Essengue in the German BBL," Wasserman wrote. "The easy baskets off rim runs, cuts and offensive rebounds have been consistent all season. But he's looking more comfortable converting off self-created drives and knocking down rhythm threes."
Essengue, 18, has played 51 games for Ratiopharm Ulm this season and he's averaging 10.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 51.2% from the field and 25.7% from three-point land. While his perimeter shooting will have to improve if he is going to be an all-around offensive threat, his improving shooting touch suggests that he could get there in the NBA with enough training and time.
"His improving on-ball skill and rising offensive production are becoming notable draft storylines, considering he's the draft's second-youngest prospect who also offers exciting defensive tools and movement," Wasserman continued. Essengue not only comes into the Draft as the second-youngest player behind Flagg, but he also boasts an impressive physical profile as he is listed at 6-foot-10 while probably being one of the most athletic players in the class.

Adam Silver: NBA All-Star game will feature 'some form of USA against the world'

Adam Silver, seen here at the 2025 NBA All-Star weekend, announced that a new format will debut at next season's All-Star game. (Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images) NBA commissioner Adam Silver confirmed on Wednesday a new All-Star format that's been floated since the disaster that was February's All-Star game. Next season's game will feature a USA vs. the world format. Silver announced the decision while speaking on FS1's "Breakfast Ball." Advertisement The format will debut on NBC in the first season of the network's return to covering the NBA under the league's new media rights deal. It will take place during the Winter Olympics that will also air on NBC. "What better time to feature some form of USA against the world?" Silver said. Silver said that he's "not exactly sure what the format will be yet." He noted that he "paid a lot of attention to what the NHL did" during its All-Star break this season. The NHL scrapped its traditional All-Star format in February for a international tournament that was a big success among fans and players. It was held up in contrast to the debut NBA's four-team mini-tournament that drew widespread scorn alongside the coverage of the event.

Former Izzo staffer, longtime NBA assistant hired by Phoenix Suns as head coach

Former Izzo staffer, longtime NBA assistant hired by Phoenix Suns as head coach The Michigan State connections are just building stronger and stronger in Phoenix for the Suns franchise. While former MSU walk-on Matt Ishbia is the owner of the team, he has snagged another MSU connection to be his next head coach. The Suns are hiring Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott as the franchise's next head coach. Ott previously spent time on Tom Izzo's staff as a video assistant, while also gaining his Master's degree from MSU. After his time at Michigan State, Ott went on to be an assistant coach at various levels in the NBA from 2013 to 2025, spending time with the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Laker and Cavaliers. Now, he is getting his shot at being the head man in the league. Ott now joins Jim Boylen as the second former Michigan State assistant under Izzo to be a head coach in the NBA. 2024-25 Conn Smythe odds, prediction: Connor McDavid installed as favorite ahead of Stanley Cup Final

The 2025 Stanley Cup Final is set to get underway Wednesday and bookmakers are having a really tough time separating the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers. The Oilers have home-ice advantage are slight -130 favorites to win the best-of-seven series at bet365, but if it were the Panthers hosting four potential games then the odds would likely be flipped. Flip a coin. With the odds to win the Stanley Cup so tight, it would make sense that the market for the Conn Smythe Trophy to be the same. Connor McDavid is an even-money favorite to win the Conn Smythe, which would make the Oilers captain the fourth player to win the trophy in consecutive years but the first to do it despite being on the losing team in at least one of those years. Leon Draisaitl has seven goals so far in the 2024-25 Stanley Cup Playoffs. NHLI via Getty Images McDavid currently leads the playoffs in points, assists and shots on goal. Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky (+250) has the shortest odds of any player on the Panthers. Bobrovsky was the only other player in last year's Final to receive a first-place vote besides McDavid. Betting on the NHL? Aleksander Barkov is the third choice on the board ahead of Game 1 at +550 odds. Barkov leads the Panthers in scoring with 17 points, but will also play a pivotal role in attempting to shut down McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in this series. Barkov's two-way game is so well respected that he doesn't need to put up eye-popping point totals to get serious consideration for this award. Leon Draisaitl is the only other player with single-digit odds at +750. The German star is one point behind McDavid in the scoring race and is tied with Corey Perry for the team lead in goals with seven. Conn Smythe betting odds Player Odds Connor McDavid +100 Sergei Bobrovsky +250 Aleksander Barkov +550 Leon Draisaitl +750 Matthew Tkachuk 25/1 Sam Bennett 28/1 Stuart Skinner 33/1 Carter Verhaeghe 60/1 Brad Marchand 75/1 Odds via bet365 Conn Smythe best bet Leon Draisaitl (+750) The oddsmakers seem to be making a stand. They are saying that if the Oilers win this series, McDavid will be given the Conn Smythe Trophy. While there is certainly a strong chance that it happens, McDavid is just one point ahead of Draisaitl in the scoring race, and it's the German who has more goals in his account in the playoffs. If Draisaitl continues at his current pace and scores a couple of big goals in this series en route to an Edmonton victory, he will be neck and neck with McDavid.
