F1 ready with backup plan should Middle East races be cancelled
'So far, we don't have this sort of signal and we are hoping not. So I don't want to even think about it, mainly for the bigger picture and not for the racing itself, and in case of, we have a plan. But let's hope this will not be even thinkable.'
Qatar and Abu Dhabi are the last two races in a triple-header on successive weekends that starts with Las Vegas on November 22 with the cars then flown straight to the Middle East.
While weather conditions in December would make it tricky to host replacement races at some European tracks there are warmer options such as Portugal's Algarve circuit, which was used during the Covid-19 pandemic.
'Europe is big, the temperatures are quite mild in certain areas,' said Domenicali, who agreed one circuit might host both races. 'Definitely we cannot go in places where there will be snow.
'But I am not even thinking about that. We are not worried at all that this will have an effect on the championship.'
Formula One raced in Saudi Arabia in 2022 despite attacks launched by Yemen's Houthis on an oil facility near the Jeddah street circuit.
Domenicali said Formula One was there then because it was sure of the guarantees of safety but recognised situations could change fast.
'We need to be always ready and monitor the situation.'

Moore leads VW Rookie Cup championship
Local racing sensation Joshua Moore used his home track advantage to perfection at last weekend's fourth round of the VW Rookie Cup Inter-Provincial Challenge at Aldo Scribante Raceway. Moore now has a small lead over the previous leader, Christopher Tait, as they head into the last two rounds of the championship. With two second places and a nail-biting win in the third heat, Moore had the local crowd on their feet as he snatched the lead with a brave overtaking move in the first corner of race three to fight off Christopher Tait, Uzair Kahn and Luke Hill to take the win, with the top six cars all crossing the finish line within two seconds of each other. Mike Rowe, the head of VW Motorsport, was pleased with how the series has progressed. 'This series just gets better and better with many different race winners, and as we head into the last part quarter of the season there are just 10 points separating the top four drivers,' Rowe said. 'We are now in our third year of VW Rookie Cup, and more and more people are taking note and watching excitedly. 'So the series has proved itself and we have got lots of interest for next year, so I think it is onwards and upwards from here. We have a few of the current drivers moving up to the Astron Energy Polo Cup next year, which is very exciting. 'Our two rookie drivers that moved up this season are consistently in the top 10 of this year's Polo Cup, which is a testament to the hard work over 12 months that the drivers and their coaches put in and is now paying dividends, and they are now reaping the rewards.' The VW Rookie Cup is a stepping stone for youngsters from the age of 14 to 16 years old who have had previous karting experience to move into mainstream circuit racing. It is seen as an academy of motorsport where they are thoroughly trained in all aspects, including race-craft, car set-up and understanding data from the car, as well as how to handle themselves in media conferences and interviews. 2026 McLaren F1 car to be sold at auction before first race
Champions McLaren claimed a first on Thursday by announcing the auction of one of their 2026 Formula One cars before it has even been raced. The F1 car, which will be driven by Oscar Piastri or Lando Norris, is one of a trio of future chassis offered by McLaren in the December 5 sale organised by RM Sotheby's ahead of this year's season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The other two are a 2026 Arrow McLaren Indycar, to be raced at the Indianapolis 500 next May by Mexican Pato O'Ward, and McLaren's inaugural 2027 World Endurance Hypercar that will compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. McLaren CEO Zak Brown said the auction would be the first time a future Formula One car had been sold before it had been unveiled to the public. The as-yet unnamed 2026 car, likely to be the MCL40 after this year's MCL39, will be the team's first for a new era in Formula One with a big change in technical and engine regulations. The successful bidder will have to wait until 2028 to take delivery, with a 2025 show car offered on lease until then to the buyer who will also have behind the scenes access to the team and events. The other cars will be delivered after the respective series have ended. McLaren are the only team to have won the 'Triple Crown' of the Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500 and Le Mans and will try to add to their success when they return to endurance racing in 2027.
