Conduct Ganga Jatara amid festive atmosphere: Collector
Tirupati: District Collector Dr S Venkateswar has directed officials of various departments to work in coordination for the upcoming Sri Tatayyagunta Gangamma Jatara, scheduled from May 6 to 14 while speaking at a review meeting held at the Collectorate on Monday evening.
He instructed officials to install hoardings with key information, maintain sanitation, manage queue lines, and set up control rooms. Special focus will be placed on traffic regulation, cultural programmes, medical camps, ambulance availability, drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, and fire safety measures.
Special security arrangements are being made for the 'Sare' procession day to manage large crowds and avoid stampedes. VIP darshan will be limited to 6–8 AM and 3–5 PM to avoid inconvenience to general devotees. MLA Arani Srinivasulu stressed the need for comfortable facilities for pilgrims.
SP V Harshavardhan Raju assured robust security and crowd control. Municipal Commissioner N Mourya highlighted sanitation and cultural event arrangements at Indira Grounds.
Officials from TTD, Endowments Department, and other civic bodies along with festival coordination committee members participated in the meeting.

People urged to plant saplings to improve greenery
Bhimavaram: West Godavari district collector Chadalawada Nagarani said that in addition to planting trees to improve greenery, efforts are being made to control plastic pollution. On Thursday, to celebrate World Environment Day, a large-scale programme was taken up in the district to plant saplings and remove plastic waste from canals and drains under 'Vanam-Manam.' As part of this, collector Nagarani, District Superintendent of Police Adnan Nayeem Asmi, district Joint Collector T Rahul Kumar Reddy, DRO Mogili Venkateswarlu, and district officials from various departments enthusiastically participated in the sapling planting programme at Collectorate here. Later, collector Nagarani participated in the programme to remove plastic waste along the Vissakoderu canal and on the footpaths at the overpass on JP Road. She inspected the waste removal work being done in the canals under the auspices of the Irrigation Department and made several suggestions to the irrigation officials. As part of the waste removal, the soil placed on the banks was ordered to be moved to another area in a day or two. She ordered that the waste removal work in the four main canals in Bhimavaram town be completed on a war footing. She advised the municipal and police officials not to allow coconut shells along the canal banks under any circumstances and that action should be taken against this. Speaking on the occasion, collector Nagarani said that a programme to plant 3.85 lakh saplings has been started across the district as part of World Environment Day. Preparations have been made for planting saplings in government offices, places, roads, along the canal banks and panchayat places. She asked the people to be partners in this and to bring about a change in the climate by planting saplings in the house premises and in open spaces outside. She said that nurseries have been developed in Venkataramannagudem, Seetharampuram and Konithivada villages of the district under the supervision of the Forest Department. She said that plants are the oxygen for humans and it is everyone's responsibility to plant trees in large numbers. She said that staff from all departments took part to remove waste in the canals. District Additional SP V Bhima Rao, District Forest Officer D Asha Kiran, and others participated in the programme.

Saplings planted in Tirumala
Tirumala: On World Environment Day, TTD has organised plantation programme in Tirumala near Gogarbham Circle on Thursday. TTD Additional EO Ch Venkaiah Chowdary planted Ficus Bengalensis (Banyan-Marri) plant in the premises of Octopus Building. He said that TTD is planting 2,000 saplings in Tirumala on this occasion. Stating that they took steps to increase greenery in Tirumala by 80 per cent, he informed soon they will organise a programme to plant two lakh saplings along with forest department. TTD Deputy CF Srinivas, Deputy EO (Health) Somannarayana, FRO Doraswamy, health officer Madhusudhan, EE Sudhakar and officers also planted samplings.

"The idea is to enhance the forest cover from 70% to 80% near Tirumala. TTD will join hands with the state forest department and initiate this mega afforestation drive. Earlier, during his reviews on TTD activities, chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu had also directed the Tirupati trust to draw up plans to enhance the forest cover in a big way," the additional EO recalled. "Beat plastic is this year's environment day's theme and the TTD is playing a significant role in banning the use of plastic in a big way. TTD is the first temple trust in the world to ban the use of packaged drinking water in plastic bottles at Tirumala, where the annual pilgrim footfall is over 2.5 crore. TTD has also stopped using materials made of plastic across all its departments at Tirumala as well," he added.
