Kentucky newcomer Jaland Lowe withdraws from draft

Reuters22-05-2025

May 22 - Kentucky guard Jaland Lowe, a transfer from Pitt, has withdrawn from this summer's NBA draft.
"Can't miss this opportunity," Lowe posted Thursday on X along with photos of himself in a Wildcats uniform and a message to Kentucky fans: "Big Blue Nation See you soon!"
As a 2024-25 sophomore, Lowe averaged 16.8 points, 5.5 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals in 31 starts for the Panthers. He earned a spot on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference third team.
Lowe averaged 13.1 points, 4.3 assists, 3.5 boards and 1.3 steals in 64 games (50 starts) over two seasons at Pitt.
"I love his ability as a playmaker," Kentucky coach Mark Pope said earlier this offseason, per On3.com. "He's going to be surprised, and he knows it, by having a chance to actually get an open catch-and-shoot once in a while, and have guys that demand space on the floor.
"I expect he's going to take a massive jump also in his efficiency and his leadership. We're really excited about him. I think he's got a huge upside."

BREAKING NEWS New York Yankees rocked by injury to star pitcher Luke Weaver

New York Yankees closer Luke Weaver is expected to be out for up to six weeks after injuring his hamstring before Sunday's win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Weaver has been one of the standout players for the Yankees this season, taking over from struggling closer Devin Williams for the American League East leaders. He has eight saves to his name so far this season with an ERA of 1.05. Williams, traded for in the offseason from the Milwaukee Brewers, will now be expected to return to the spot he was signed for to make his own.

Trade hype rehash on tap when Mavs-Lakers meet in preseason

June 3 - There was a lot of criticism circling the Dallas Mavericks after they traded franchise star Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February. Expect another round of opinions about the big swap during the preseason when the Mavericks and Lakers meet at Las Vegas on Oct. 15. The Lakers announced four preseason games on Monday in which they are designated as the home team, and the attention-getter is the matchup vs. Dallas. The Mavericks landed Anthony Davis in the controversial deal, but Dallas fans were irate over the loss of Doncic. The Lakers won both meetings between the teams after the trade. Doncic had a triple-double (19 points, 15 rebounds, 12 assists) as Los Angeles beat visiting Dallas 107-99 on Feb. 25. He then poured in 45 points in his first visit to Dallas as a visiting player on April 9, helping the Lakers prevail 112-97. Davis missed the Feb. 25 game on Feb. 25 before producing 13 points and 11 rebounds on April 9. The Mavericks won the NBA draft lottery despite being big longshots, so they could have Cooper Flagg, the projected No. 1 overall pick, in action when they get to Las Vegas. The Lakers, of course, will have a roster led by veteran LeBron James. The Lakers also announced preseason games against the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 3 in Palm Desert, Calif., and home contests against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 12 and the Sacramento Kings on Oct. 17. --Field Level Media

Kerry Carpenter hits three HRs as Tigers blast White Sox

June 3 - Kerry Carpenter belted three home runs, Dillon Dingler and Wenceel Perez also homered, and Jack Flaherty pitched six strong innings to lift the Detroit Tigers to a 13-1 rout of the host Chicago White Sox on Monday. Carpenter smacked two-run homers in the first and fourth innings and a solo shot in the sixth for his first career three-home run game. He finished with five RBIs. Parker Meadows, who made his season debut after missing the first two months with a right upper arm nerve issue, contributed two of the Tigers' 16 hits. Gleyber Torres, Colt Keith, and Perez also had two hits apiece. Flaherty (4-6) cruised behind the hefty run support. He spaced one run and four hits in six innings with one walk and four strikeouts. Chase Meidroth collected a pair of hits for the White Sox, including a double to lead off the game and a single to open the sixth. He scored Chicago's lone run on Vinny Capra's RBI groundout in the sixth. Capra later pitched a perfect ninth, retiring the side on nine pitches. White Sox right-hander Jonathan Cannon entered Monday's start with eight home runs allowed in 11 appearances and nine starts covering 60 2/3 innings. Detroit attacked Cannon from the outset, denting him for three more long balls. After Meadows struck out swinging to open the game, Cannon yielded a single to Torres and a two-run home run to Carpenter. Dingler added a solo shot two batters later. Perez delivered a two-run homer in the second to stretch the Tigers' lead to 5-0. Cannon settled down after that, but the early damage proved too much to overcome. He fell to 2-7 after allowing five runs and four hits in three innings with three walks and five strikeouts. Detroit improved to 4-0 against Chicago this season as Carpenter became the first Tiger to hit three home runs in a game since Victor Martinez on June 16, 2016. The White Sox have lost seven of eight. Monday marked their first defeat by more than two runs since May 19. Austin Slater doubled for Chicago. --Field Level Media
