Paul Gascoigne tells pals 'i'm fine' in message from hospital after collapse
Paul Gascoigne sent a reassuring message to loved ones from his hospital bed today after he collapsed at home. He told a pal: "I'm fine" after he was rushed into intensive care at the weekend.
The 58-year-old Rangers legend was discovered semi-conscious at home on Friday evening. He was taken to a hospital near his home in Poole, Dorset after his collapse.
But Gazza has told pals that he is feeling better. He was expected to remain in hospital for treatment for several days but may be allowed to leave earlier than expected. "He has told friends that he is fine and was going to give an update later today," said a source close to the star told the Mirror: "He has been doing well recently so this was an unexpected setback.
He had a full three months without alcohol over the summer while he was doing various speaking engagements and looked really well."
In a candid chat with the Mirror last year, Gazza discussed his ongoing struggle with alcohol and acknowledged occasional lapses, reports the Mirror.
The incident on Friday occurred when Gazza's friend Steve Foster, also known as 'Fozzie', discovered him in a poor state at his house. Mr Foster, who doubles as Gazza's driver and personal assistant, promptly drove the ex-footballer to the hospital after finding him in his bedroom.
Speaking last night, Mr Foster stated: "Paul is in hospital, which is the best possible place for him to be right now."
Gazza's stepdaughter Bianca, who is a reality TV star, his two sisters Lindsay and Anna, and former footballer friends Peter Beardsley, Chris Waddle, Paul Merson and Vinnie Jones are believed to be closely monitoring his health.
Regarded as one of the finest midfield maestros of his era, England legend Gascoigne holds a special place in the hearts of fans.
He earned 57 caps and netted ten goals for England between 1988 and 1998.
Having risen through the youth ranks at his hometown club Newcastle United, he made his first-team debut for the Magpies in April 1985. He found the back of the net 25 times in 104 appearances for Newcastle before transferring to Spurs.
During his stint in north London, he helped Tottenham clinch the FA Cup in 1991 and spent four years with the club before making a move to Lazio. His later career saw him turn out for Rangers, Middlesbrough, Everton and Burnley.
Gascoigne quickly became a fan favourite at Ibrox with his flair and tenacity.
In his debut season, Gascoigne was instrumental in securing Rangers' eighth consecutive league title, scoring a memorable hat-trick against Aberdeen to seal the championship. That same season, he was named both PFA Scotland Players' Player of the Year and SFWA Footballer of the Year.
Though his time in Glasgow was punctuated by controversy, including high-profile incidents on and off the pitch, Gascoigne's footballing brilliance often overshadowed the chaos. He helped Rangers to two league titles, a Scottish Cup, and a League Cup before departing in 1998.
Gazza's most recent health concern follows the closure of his company in early July due to its failure to submit records on time. Companies House declared that the firm has been struck off and dissolved.

That has been a huge strength at Twente. I realise now that it has to be kept in check. You have to invest in that. "You have to involve all the boys. That is one thing I want to take with me to the future." Propper's exit dragged on as he negotiated with Rangers over the terms of his departure with a year still left on his deal. But he insisted he enjoyed "beautiful moments' in light blue and is glad he had his year in Govan. Propper added: 'It was a long wait. I wanted to know how it would go with Rangers. A lot happened there and I wanted to see how it went. 'I did pre-season and I played matches there. I don't think I missed much in terms of fitness 'Of course I want to say that I had a great adventure at a beautiful club with a rich history. I always wanted that in my career. I think I want to look at a different mirror after a while. 'I can say that I have done that now. It felt really good to come back to the club where I really wanted to be - where I felt at home. The first two days I immediately felt the feeling. 'In a year you experience a lot. I have noticed that now. In a foreign country, certain things are different. I'm glad that I was able to experience that. 'I played a lot of games. I had a lot of beautiful moments. Also a little less. In a year like this you experience so many things. Holders Celtic are at home to top flight new boys Falkirk while Russell Martin's side host Alloa Athletic at Ibrox on the weekend of August 16/17. Gers take a 2-0 Champions League second round qualifying first leg lead to Athens this week, looking to finish the job against Panathinaikos. Do so, and they will face either Servette or Viktoria Plzen in the third qualifying round. It's not unthinkable that they will book a spot in the playoff round alongside their city rivals, leaving both 180 minutes away from the lucrative league phase. The first legs of those ties will be played on Tuesday August 19 and Wednesday 20, with the Premier Sports Cup fixtures being played the weekend prior. That's still a while away, but it won't be known if Rangers make it before the TV picks for the domestic cup clashes are made. That rules out the Sunday with at least one of them set to play on the Tuesday, and assuming Police Scotland don't go for staggered kick-offs on Saturday August 16, then the most obvious solution at this stage looks like Celtic hosting the Bairns on Friday 15. There is a precedent for both to kick-off on their own respective patches at the same time, however. July 2022 saw the Light Blues host Tottenham Hotspur in the friendly while Norwich City were across town at Celtic Park. Both games kicked off at 3pm on the same day in the same city - which was the first time that had happened since January 1999. Just under 38,000 watched Rangers beat Stenhousemuir 2-0 in the Scottish Cup while over 42,000 were at Parkhead to see the Hoops see off Airdrie 3-1.
