NGT seeks DJB report on sewer line work in Sangam Vihar unauthorised colonies
Earlier in April, DJB informed the tribunal that there were a total of 44 unauthorised colonies in Sangam Vihar, of which 33 were on encroached forest land and 11 in non-forest areas. Sewer lines have been laid in 8 of the 11 such colonies. DJB further stated that of the unauthorised colonies in the forested land, 11 were partially in the forest area while 22 colonies were completely in the forest area.
A tribunal order then stated that while the issue was related to solid and liquid waste management in these colonies, the tribunal cannot give a seal of approval to the colonies developed in violation of the Forest Conservation Act, 1980, and other relevant environmental enactments.
The tribunal also sought an explanation from the Union environment ministry, ministry of housing and urban affairs and Delhi forest department.

Devotees throng Khira Chora Gopinath temple
1 2 3 4 Balasore: Janmashtami was celebrated at the famous Khirachora Gopinath Temple in Remuna, Balasore district, on Saturday. Steeped in legend, the temple is one of the most prominent Vaishnav shrines in Odisha. Nando Utsav will be celebrated on Sunday. According to temple tradition, the deity earned the name Khirachora Gopinath (Gopinath, the thief of milk pudding) centuries ago when Lord Krishna, moved by the longing of his ardent devotee Madhavendra Puri, secretly kept aside a portion of the famous khira bhoga (milk pudding) and delivered it to him through the temple priest. Since then, the temple has become a centre of faith and pilgrimage, drawing devotees from across the country. Constructed during the reign of King Langula Narasinghadeva of the Ganga dynasty, the shrine houses three deities—Madan Mohan, Govinda, and Gopinath. The absence of Goddess Radha here is linked to ancient lore, and priests say this makes the temple unique in its traditions. Each day, nearly 300 to 400 litres of milk are brought from nearby villages to prepare the celebrated "amrutakeli" (sweetened condensed milk offering) using traditional wooden stoves. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The prasad, famed for its purity, is served in earthen pots and distributed among devotees. Pilgrims from far and wide throng Remuna. "This is my first visit with my family from Kolkata. On Janmashtami, we feel truly blessed to have the darshan of Lord Gopinath," said Gouranga Pal, a devotee from Kolkata. Another devotee, Triptirekha Mohanty from Keonjhar, who has been visiting for two years, said "The temple radiates immense spiritual energy. Whatever we pray for, Lord Gopinath listens." Temple sevayat (priest) Jayanta Kumar Baral narrated the ancient story connecting Lord Rama to the shrine. "During his exile, when goddess Sita asked about his next incarnation, Lord Rama drew the image of Khirachora Gopinath," he said. Executive officer Prashant Mahapatra said the rituals would continue until late in the night. "Special pujas are being performed. Devotees believe that darshan of the three deities here —Madan Mohan, Govinda, and Gopinath —completes the spiritual experience," he said. Need humane plan to sterilise 50k stray dogs a year: NGOs
Panaji: Animal welfare NGOs in Goa on Saturday formed an umbrella organisation, the Goa Animal Federation, and demanded a 'humane and scientific' plan to manage the state's stray dog population. They opposed any plans to create mass stray dog shelters as in other states, calling it 'illegal, inhumane, and impractical'. They said the animal birth control (ABC) plan failed due to a complete lack of action on the part of various authorities. Goa needs infrastructure to sterilise 50,000 dogs a year to control the dog population, said Hema Sardesai, leading the NGO collective in the announcement. The Goa Animal Federation proposed a three-year ABC plan to contain the dog population. The formation of the federation comes after a recent state govt order to formulate a task force to deliberate on the Aug 11 Supreme Court order on street dog relocation in Delhi. The federation's president, K D Row, proposed a plan to contain animal-human conflict with an approach to curb three causes of dog bites: food aggression, mating aggression, and aggression from cruelty. According to the proposal, the federation plans to offer its assistance to govt to help meet the proposed target to sterilise 1.5 lakh dogs in three years, with a daily estimate of 167 surgeries per day in two ABC centres, one in each district. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo 'The state animal husbandry department, which couldn't handle the ABC programme properly for years, utterly failed due to a lack of understanding, funds, and willingness, and hence, can never be trusted to run a shelter for 1.45 lakh dogs,' said Row.
