No more drugs, we want education: Bhagwant Mann to introduce new curriculum; tackling drug addiction in focus
Bhagwant Mann (ANI) NEW DELHI: The Punjab government will implement a drug prevention curriculum in all government schools across the state starting August 1, targeting students in grades 9 to 12. The initiative aims to curb drug use through education and is part of a broader strategy to address both the supply and demand sides of drug abuse. The curriculum, developed under the guidance of Nobel laureate Prof Abhijit Banerjee, includes 15 sessions delivered over 27 weeks. Students will attend 35-minute classes every fortnight, focusing on how to resist peer pressure, make informed decisions, and understand the risks associated with drug use. Teaching materials include films, quizzes, posters, worksheets, and interactive activities. The program will cover approximately 800,000 students in 3,658 government schools across Punjab. Over 6,500 teachers have undergone training to deliver the sessions. According to data from a pilot run in 78 schools in Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts, the curriculum led to measurable changes in student attitudes. Of the 9,600 students who participated, 90% recognised that trying drugs even once could lead to addiction. The belief that drug addiction could be overcome by willpower alone dropped from 50% to 20% after the sessions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mini House for 60 sqm for Seniors with Toilet and Bath (Price May Surprise You) Pre Fabricated Homes | Search Ads Search Now Undo This education-focused approach complements the state's enforcement efforts under the 'War Against Drugs' campaign, which began in March 2025. Since then, over 23,000 alleged drug traffickers have been arrested, more than 1,000 kilograms of heroin seized, and properties linked to drug offences confiscated. The Punjab government has stated that while law enforcement remains a priority, long-term solutions require preventive measures, particularly targeting youth. Officials said the school-based curriculum could serve as a model for other states looking to implement similar preventive strategies.

Meghalaya honeymoon murder: The chilling case in which Indore-based transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi was killed during his honeymoon, will now be made into a movie. Family members of the deceased have consented to a movie on the crime, which sent shockwaves across the nation following the arrest of his wife Sonam and her suspected lover, Raj Kushwaha. The movie is being directed by SP Nimbawat, and is tentatively titled 'Honeymoon in Shillong,' reported newswire PTI. The film's director revealed that the script is complete and ready for production. Shooting will take place in Indore, the hometown of the couple, and in various locations across Meghalaya, where Raja's body was tragically discovered. '80 per cent of its shooting will be done in Indore and the remaining 20 per cent in different areas of Meghalaya,' SP Nimbawat told reporters. Raja Raghuvanshi had travelled to Meghalaya with his wife Sonam in May. Days after he went missing, his mutilated body was found on June 2 in a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra area (also known as Cherrapunji) in East Khasi Hills district. Without revealing the names of the actors of the movie, director SP Nimbawat said: '...It is a murder will ensure that the movie is good and that talented Bollywood actors play the roles,' reported ANI. Raja Raghuvanshi's brother, Sachin, said the family consented to a movie on the chilling crime to bring the truth about his brother's murder to light. "We gave our consent for the upcoming film on the murder case. We believe that if we do not bring the story of my brother's murder on the big screen, people will not be able to know who was right and who was wrong?" Raghuvanshi's elder brother, Sachin, told reporters. Weeks after the brutal murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon, his family performed a puja at the crime scene in Meghalaya on Thursday. Raja and Sonam, who were married on May 11, went missing on 23 May during their honeymoon in Shillong. According to the police, Sonam Raghuvanshi had allegedly plotted Raja's murder with her lover, Raj Kushwaha. Three others — Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi — allegedly assisted in the crime.

Rajkummar Rao gets bail in 2017 'Behen Hogi Teri' case, here's what his advocate has to say: Know all about the case
Rajkummar Rao who was last seen in 'Maalik' got a lot of love for his performance. The actor whose film 'Stree 2' got a huge response at the box office has now gotten relief in his 2017 'Behen Hogi Teri' case. For those not in the know, Rajkummar was a part of this film which starred him alongside Shruti Hassan. The film's poster saw him dressed as Lord Shiva on a silver motorbike with Uttar Pradesh number plate. Several symbolic religious elements like moon crescent and rudraksh beads also featured in the poster and thus, this led to a strong outrange in Jalandhar. A complaint was filed against the makers for hurting religious sentiments. Infact, director Ajay K Pannalal and producer Tony D'souza were also arrested in Mumbai and later were granted bail. Meanwhile, the case was still ongoing as Rajkummar had to appear before court on July 28 in connection to this case. After he appeared before the court, the actor has been granted conditional bail. Another hearing took place today, July 30 but today, the actor wasn't present at court. Now Rajkummar's advocate has shared details about the case. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like (1) Activate Antivirus License Now Click Here Undo Advocate Darshan Dayal said, according to ANI, "The FIR was registered under Section 295A (act done with the intention of inciting religious sentiments), Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and Section 67 of the IT Act, due to which non-bailable warrants were also issued against the actor." Dayal further said, "The challan was presented in the court in the absence of the actor. Since the address in the summons was in Delhi, he was not informed about appearing in the court. Actually, the actor is living in Mumbai. On the other hand, Shruti Hassan was acquitted in the case after the court found her innocent. Ajay K Pannalal (Director of the film) has reached the court today, whose petition has been filed in the court. " Meanwhile, Rajkummar argued that the film had received a Central Board of Film Certification certificate, indicating that the content of the film was not legally objectionable. The certificate also said that his freedom of expression was protected under Article 19(1)(a), according to Darshan. Media reports say the Censor Board (CBFC) had initially asked the filmmakers to remove a scene where Rajkummar, dressed as Lord Shiva, falls off a bike, as it might offend religious sentiments. However, the film was eventually cleared with a U/A certificate and released without any cuts on June 9, 2017, with the scene included.
