They are one point behind leaders Sierra Leone, who have four points.
Zambia, on the other hand, is in fourth place with one point, having drawn their only match against Sierra Leone, which ended in a 0-0 draw.

Kwesi Appiah banks on Al-Hilal core as Sudan names squad for CHAN 2024

Published: Sunday, 27 July 2025 Ghanaian tactician Kwesi Appiah has placed his trust in a strong contingent of Al-Hilal players as he named Sudan's 25-man squad for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024. With 13 players from domestic champions Al-Hilal Khartoum making the cut, Appiah is clearly leaning on club chemistry and recent domestic form to guide the Falcons of Jediane in what promises to be a highly competitive Group D. Sudan, two-time participants in CHAN (2011 and 2018), are drawn in a daunting group alongside defending champions Senegal, continental giants Nigeria, and Congo Brazzaville. Appiah, who guided Ghana at the 2014 World Cup and now leads Sudan's football revival amid the backdrop of a civil strife, will be hoping his local stars can rise to the challenge and exceed past achievements—most notably their third-place finish on home soil in 2011. The announcement of the squad came shortly after the conclusion of the Sudan Premier League and Super Cup. The national team is expected to assemble immediately and will travel to Zanzibar on July 30 for their final preparations before CHAN 2024 kicks off on August 2. Appiah's selection reflects a balance between experience and form. Al-Merriekh Khartoum, the country's other powerhouse, has also contributed a fair number of key players, including goalkeeper Ahmed Al-Fateh and midfielder Mohamed Al-Rasheed. Hay Al-Wadi Nyala and Al-Amal Atbara also have one representative each. The Ghanaian coach will be looking to instil tactical discipline and belief into his squad, with hopes of a deep tournament run. Given the strength of Group D opponents, Sudan will need to be at their best from the first whistle. Sudan open their campaign against Congo Brazzaville before facing Nigeria and then wrap up the group stage against reigning champions Senegal. Full Sudan Squad for TotalEnergies CHAN 2024 Goalkeepers: Ahmed Al-Fateh (Al-Merriekh Khartoum) Mohamed Al-Nour Adam (Al-Zamala Umm Ruwaba) Mohamed Madani (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Defenders: Ramadan Ajeeb Sharif (Al-Merriekh Khartoum) Awad Zaid Gadain (Al-Merriekh Khartoum) Musab Mohamed Makin (Al-Merriekh Khartoum) Ahmed Abdelmomen Ahmed (Al-Merriekh Khartoum) Mohamed Ahmed Saeed (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Altayeb Abdelrazek (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Mazen Bashir Siembo (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Farees Abdullah Mamoun (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Midfielders: Mohamed Al-Rasheed Mahmoud (Al-Merriekh Khartoum) Salah Al-Din Adel (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Wali Al-Din Khidr (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Abdelrazek Omar (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Yasser Muzamil Al-Tayeb (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Ahmed Ismat (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Al-Musbah Faisal (Al-Amal Atbara) Forwards: Yasser Awad Bushara (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Ali Abdallah Hamad Al-Neel (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Mohamed Abdulrahman Yousif (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Mubarak Abdallah (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Mousa Hussein Mousa (Al-Hilal Khartoum) Mohamed Tia Aboudikin (Al-Merriekh Khartoum) Mazen Fad Al-Bahli (Hay Al-Wadi Nyala)
