School district warning parents about viral ‘Chromebook challenge'
A viral TikTok trend could injure your child or cause serious property damage, a metro Atlanta school district is warning.
The 'Chromebook challenge' involves students taking their school-issued Chromebooks and jamming metal objects into the charging port. This often causes electrical shorts, smoking, sparks or fires.
Clayton County Public Schools says on top of students being injured, there could be financial and disciplinary repercussions.

Often, the Chromebooks used in the 'challenge' have to be repaired or replaced. And Clayton County school system officials say the student or their families will have to foot the bill.
'The Chromebooks were issued to our students to help them succeed in school,' said Andy Sykes, CCPS Chief of Technology, 'These are not playthings. We ask our students to respect these district-owned devices and use them for the purpose for which they were issued.'

Superintendent Dr. Anthony W. Smith says that based on the severity of the damage and location, the student could face disciplinary action.
'We are asking our staff and our parents to partner with us in controlling this senseless act of vandalism by sharing the message that participation could create adverse situations that could have serious consequences,' said Dr. Smith.

He punctuates his videos with a trademark gesture -- palms turned towards the sky, accompanied by a knowing smile and wide eyes -- as he offers his own simple remedies. The idea for his content came to him while wandering around the housing project where his family lived in Chivasso, near Turin, after losing his factory mechanic's job in March 2020. Khaby Lame Posts on Social Media After ICE Confirms Detaining Him
Khaby Lame, the world's most popular TikToker, has posted several times on social media since ICE confirmed detaining him. According to a statement ICE emailed Men's Journal on June 7, the agency detained Lame on accusations of immigration violations in Nevada but let him voluntarily leave the country. You wouldn't know that from his social media pages, though, as Lame has posted to both his Instagram story and TikTok page since news went viral that he was arrested by ICE. Lame posted a video with costumed mascots to TikTok, and he posted several times to his Instagram story, including a photo showing a hand holding a book in a bookstore and a shout-out to an athlete for his birthday. He also posted about Eid Mubarak. He has more than 162 million TikTok followers. News that ICE had taken Lame into custody first broke via an X influencer named Bo Louden, although many people raised questions about the initial report because Lame no longer came up in the ICE detention database. That may be because the agency now says it let him leave the country. Louden wrote that he was the person who reported Lame to ICE. 8-year-old shot in South Fulton
The South Fulton Police Department said one person was arrested after a 8-year-old was shot Friday night. Officers responded to the 4300 block of Cascade Road and found an 8-year-old child with a gunshot wound to the leg. The police said initial findings indicate the shooting came after a large fight with several people.
