Ohio State names its male and female 'Athletes of the Year'
The Ohio State Athletic Department announced its 2025 Male and Female Athletes of the Year on Tuesday. Men's soccer player Michael Adedokun and All-American Makenna Webster, who plays both field hockey and women's ice hockey, were recognized in a statement released by the university.
Adedokun had one whale of a year for Ohio Sate. He made OSU men's soccer history by becoming the first Buckeye to win the MAC Hermann Trophy, the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer in 2024. He earned All-American honors by leading the team and conference with 11 goals, 11 assists, and 33 points. The team made its way to the 2024 College Cup as the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
Webster also had a fantastic year in two different sports. She led the field hockey team with 42 points in 2024. She won the 2025 Big Ten Medal of Honor winner. Webster finished the season sixth nationally in points per game and became the 11th player to record 100 career points, doing it in just three seasons. She was a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten honoree and ended the year as a Second Team All-America selection.

Ohio State football misses out on another 4-star edge rusher for the 2026 class
The Ohio State football program has lost out on another of its high priority defensive ends. On Monday, four-star defensive end Landon Barnes chose Ole Miss over the Buckeyes, making it two days in a row OSU got bad news on one of its targets on the edge, joining Carter Meadows, who gave his verbal pledge to Michigan on Sunday. It's a bit of a troubling trend and might be a product of where things are with the new NIL and direct revenue payment model rolling out. Barnes hails from Duncanville, Texas, and is ranked as the No. 139 overall prospect and 18th edge in the 2026 recruiting cycle according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Larry Johnson and gang would love to add another edge rusher to the class of 2026, but it's beginning to look like they might have to focus on the 2027 class to make that happen once all of the dust settles with all of the uncertainty. OSU still has some good defensive tackles with the potential of another one or two coming, but defensive end will likely become a priority now. Ohio State still has a top-five class for 2026, but the momentum you would have thought coming off a College Football Playoff national championship run hasn't been as fast and frequent as many would like. There's still time, and it's still a very, very good class, but not what many would have predicted. Let's hope Ohio State can turn up the temperature on recruiting and bring home another fantastic class when all the shouting and hand-ringing stops in December. Nicole Auerbach and Joshua Perry discuss the latest drama surrounding the future of the College Football Playoff and the possibility of expansion. INDIANAPOLIS – The stars came out for the 2025 Rivals Five-Star event at the Indianapolis Colts' facility this week. Here we break down the top offensive linemen from the event. Brown has a chiseled frame that will easily carry more weight after he enters the Nittany Lions' strength program. But even more impressive than his frame is his motor. Brown is always ready to go and eager to plant opposing defenders in the turf. He's also remarkably consistent at these national events. Penn State has a future star on the way. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH PENN STATE FANS AT The future Ohio State Buckeye doesn't do many camps but you wouldn't know it after his performance at the Rivals Five-Star. He came very close to taking home MVP honors after some great reps during one-on-ones. Greer is highly-rated at No. 43 in the country but is still underrated. He's got a great basketball background as well. The Ohio native has future multi-year starter written all over him. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OHIO STATE FANS AT Osenda is a massive offensive tackle prospect out of Tennessee. Because he's so tall, he carries his weight very well and it doesn't look like he weighs 330 pounds. He came in with the biggest wingspan at the camp (7-foot) and had some dominant moments during the camp. His improvement has been steady and he's one to watch in the future. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH TENNESSEE FANS AT The crown jewel of the Cal recruiting class gave the program a massive boost when he committed there. Standing at 6-foot-6, 335-pounds he's a monster offensive lineman that is hard to miss. But he's pretty agile for that size and rarely got beat during camp. Cal got an absolute steal here and their future quarterbacks and running backs will be thankful. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH CAL FANS AT

New England Free Jacks win third straight Major League Rugby championship
'I think 20 years from now, 50 years from now, we'll look back at those years when the Free Jacks were first founded and the way they brought in the community and built that core, it will be magic,' said co-founder and executive chairman Alex Magleby. 'We'll talk about that forever.' Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Magleby compared the club, which was formed in 2018 and began MLR play in 2020, to other legendary Boston teams over the decades. Advertisement 'The fact that the league now has this story to tell — it's kind of New England versus the world,' said Magleby. 'How cool is that?' BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPS 🏆 28-22 📺 ESPN2 | — Major League Rugby (@usmlr) The Free Jacks (14-5) never trailed Saturday, a penalty kick from fly-half Dan Hollinshead in the seventh minute putting them ahead for good. Houston (12-7) pulled even three minutes later and remained within 3 points for much of the match, but another Hollinshead penalty in the 58th minute made it 23-17. That set the stage for the decisive try in the 69th. Wing Brock Webster caught the SaberCats defense off guard with a shuffle out wide to Paula Balekana, and the No. 2 try scorer in MLR this season turned on the jets and converted even as the Free Jacks were a man-down from a yellow card. Advertisement 'Dan Hollinshead really felt it was time to pull trigger,' said Webster, lauding his team's ability to make the risky play. 'When someone decides to pull trigger, we back them. Luckily, when I got the ball, Paula had quite a bit of space in front of him. That's a pretty easy guy to get the ball to and trust with the ball in his hands.' As the Dropkick Murphys' 'The Boys are Back' blasted, Balekana was lifted in the air in the try zone. He extended his arms as the lyrics, 'And they're looking for glory' rang out. 'When you're playing with LeBron James, just get him the ball,' said Webster. Hollinshead scored 13 points and Balekana two tries, but Webster was awarded Player of the Match after — in addition to setting up both tries — a flurry of productive plays and regularly putting his body on the line to advance the ball. Not a bad finish for a player who didn't crack the starting 15 to begin the season. 'It's been the most incredible rise of a player that I've ever seen,' said first-year Free Jacks coach Ryan Martin. Right after lifting the MLR shield, players circled the stadium, high-fiving the fans lined along the field. 'The amount of red, white, and blue — and the energy that they created for us, they get to share in something really special,' said Martin. New England's Sam Caird (foreground) didn't shy from contact as he scored his try early in the second half on Saturday against Houston. Davey Wilson/Major League Rugby An announced crowd of more than 5,700 at Centreville Bank Stadium was heavily skewed toward supporting the Free Jacks.
