Second arrest made in shooting death
ANDERSON — Anderson police have made a second arrest in the shooting death of Dayla Swain.
Officers served a search warrant Thursday at a residence in the 2600 block of Meridian Street.
According to a press release from Caleb McKnight, public information officer for the Anderson Police Department, during the search officers found firearms and other evidence connected to the Feb. 2 shooting in the 1500 block of South Madison Avenue, which resulted in the death of Swain, 26.
Police arrested a 17-year-old in connection with Swain's death. He is being detained in the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center.
The arrest affidavit was submitted to the Madison County Prosecutor's office for further review and processing.
The investigation into the shooting death of Swain is ongoing and other persons of interest are being sought, according to the release.
Police on Wednesday arrested Rashawn Darrius Samuels, 18, 1200 block of West Ninth Street, in connection with the incident.
Samuels is charged with murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and reckless homicide.
On Friday, Chief Deputy Prosecutor Andrew Hanna said Samuels is fighting extradition to Indiana from Wisconsin. Hanna said the prosecutor's office will request a governor's warrant to have Samuels brought to Madison County.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Detective Brett Webb, it was believed that Samuels and several others were attempting to kill a witness in the murder trial of Donavan Harris.
Harris is charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of Jullian Craig, 15, on Nov. 24 during a drug deal.
Harris is charged with murder, dealing in narcotic, armed robbery and criminal confinement with a deadly weapon.
He is scheduled to go on trial in Madison Circuit Court Division 1 on May 6.
Samuels was identified as one of the shooters in the incident, according to the witness statements in the affidavit.
The court documents said that Swain was speaking to a man in a Ford F150 when gunfire began to strike the truck. The man told police that as the gunfire started, he fled the scene.
Court documents allege that Samuels is affiliated with the Mickey Cobra Nation, a 'criminal organization with ties originating in Chicago.' The documents state that Samuels' family are founding members of the organization.
The documents said there was a 'known dispute' between the Mickey Cobra Nation and the man who was reportedly driving the Ford F150.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Webb or Detective Travis Thompson at 765-648-6731 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
