Al-fatihah Recitation Check At JAKIM Booth Draws Visitors At Perak PMR 2025
LUMUT, June 13 (Bernama) -- Reciting al-Fatihah is a pillar of prayer, yet many Muslims remain unaware that errors in its pronunciation can compromise the validity of their prayer.
Concerned about this issue, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) took the initiative to offer al-Fatihah recitation checking sessions during the Perak MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 at Lumut Waterfront.
Darul Quran JAKIM assistant lecturer Mohd Husni Shafii said the face-to-face session aims to help Muslims identify both major and minor mistakes in their recitation based on the 'Rasm Uthmani', the standard Quranic script used in Malaysia.
'One common mistake is in the pronunciation of the letter 'ḍad', which is often substituted with the letter 'dal'. This is considered a major error because changing a letter alters the meaning,' he told Bernama here today.
Mohd Husni expressed hope that the initiative by JAKIM would continue to benefit the public, as they become more aware of the minor or major mistakes in their recitation of surah al-Fatihah.
He said the response from visitors was very encouraging, with more than 40 people having attended the session since morning, reflecting the growing awareness and interest in improving Quranic recitation, especially in the context of daily prayers.
One of the visitors, Norazwani Yahaya, 43, said the initiative was very beneficial as it raised awareness and helped her correct long-standing errors in her recitation.
'I will now practice the correct recitation and teach my children as well,' said Norazwani, who also praised the expertise and knowledge of the programme's instructors.
The recitation checking is one of the interactive activities held at the Mini Stage (Ministries, Agencies and State Government Pavillion) throughout Perak PMR 2025, which operates from today until Sunday.

DJÉNNÉ, Mali: Thousands of Malians have replastered the iconic earthen mosque in the historic city of Djenné during an annual ceremony that helps preserve the World Heritage site. To the sound of drums and festive music, townsmen on Thursday coated the towering three-minaret mosque with fresh mud plaster. The annual replastering with banco – a mix of earth and water – shields the mosque from harsh weather ahead of the Sahel region's often violent rainy season. Locals prepared the mix themselves, combining water, earth, rice bran, shea butter and baobab powder – a hallmark of Sahel-Sudanese architecture. Chief mason Mafoune Djenepo inspected the fresh coating. "The importance of this mosque is immense. It's the image on all Malian stamps," he said. A blessing ceremony followed the replastering, with Quranic verses recited in the mosque courtyard. Participants then shared dates and sweets. First erected in the 13th century and rebuilt in 1907, the mosque is considered the world's largest earthen structure, according to the United Nations' cultural body, Unesco. Djenné, home to around 40,000 residents and known for preserving its traditional banco houses, has been on Unesco's World Heritage list since 1988. The site was added to the endangered heritage list in 2016 due to its location in central Mali, where jihadist fighters linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group, as well as ethnic militias and criminal gangs, have waged a violent insurgency since 2012.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- An interactive fact-checking exhibition by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) at the HAWANA 2025 Carnival aims to educate the public on how to identify and verify questionable content, particularly on social media. The initiative is led by MyCheck Malaysia, Bernama's dedicated fact-checking unit, as part of the annual National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) celebration which starts today. Unit head Fatin Najmi Mohammad Shah said the booth introduces Bernama's verification efforts and promotes critical thinking among media users. 'The goal is to help people quickly spot dubious claims and assess their authenticity before sharing them,' she told Bernama at the event held at Sunway Putra Mall here today. She added that while platforms like MyCheck Malaysia are useful, individuals should also learn to conduct their own checks. Visitors to the booth can take part in quizzes, interactive games and watch live sessions by MyCheck Malaysia on Bernama Radio. A 'Pocket Talk' session scheduled for Sunday will highlight the importance of media literacy and fact-checking in today's digital landscape. Visitor Nurjannah Najiah, 20, said the exhibition helped her better understand how to assess information credibility and appreciate the work that goes into verifying news. 'We've heard of Bernama, but I didn't know what it actually offers. Today, I learned that it has a fact-checking unit like MyCheck Malaysia,' said Nurjannah, a Diploma in Corporate Communication student at Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM).

Perak PMR 2025: APM's Sealegs boat ride offers unique experience at Lumut Waterfront
LUMUT: Set against the scenic backdrop of the sea, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) is offering a unique and interactive experience to visitors of the Perak MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 at the Lumut Waterfront. Departing from the usual static displays, this edition of PMR gives the public a chance to ride in APM's Sealegs amphibious boat - a high-tech New Zealand-made asset capable of operating on both land and water. Bagan Datuk District APM Officer Capt (PA) Mohd Fazly Mohamad Zawawi said visitors only need to take part in a quiz at the APM booth to receive a coupon for the boat ride. 'We're offering visitors the chance to board the boat from the Lumut public jetty, cruise along the Lumut Waterfront and return to the jetty,' he told Bernama. Apart from the ride, visitors will also be briefed on the functions of the 7.1-metre tactical vehicle, which was specially mobilised from the Perak APM's disaster asset fleet. Mohd Fazly said the Perak APM currently maintains two units of the Sealegs boat, which are mobilised during disasters such as floods. The boats have previously been sent to the East Coast and Johor to assist in flood relief operations. Bernama journalists had the opportunity to take a 20-minute ride on the vessel, cruising along the Lumut Waterfront and catching a glimpse of Royal Malaysian Navy combat vessels and Littoral Combat Ships anchored nearby. Visitors can also try out rescue tools such as the power cutter, used to slice through concrete and metal during actual emergency operations. 'A total of 90 APM personnel are involved in this programme, including members of the Rapid Response Team (PASPA) from our headquarters. We've also brought in the Alpha Band from Bangi to perform busker-style entertainment,' he added. Other attractions at the APM exhibition include safety education sessions featuring exotic animals such as snakes, brought in from the APM training centre. The Perak PMR 2025 runs from 9 am to 10 pm on Friday and Saturday, while on Sunday, the event concludes at 6 pm. Government service booths are open from 9 am to 6 pm daily. With the theme 'Pendidikan Tinggi, Pemacu Negara MADANI', the programme features over 200 services including knowledge-sharing sessions, exhibitions, health checks, advisory services, and various activities for all levels of society.
