The remaining 75 percent exit the service with a severance package, skill certification, and employment assistance. Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, earlier in March, praised the scheme's effectiveness, calling it a success in attracting high-calibre candidates to the Army. The 'crème de la crème is coming to the Army through the scheme. Their urge to learn is comparatively high, and as far as their capability to deliver is concerned, they are delivering', he said. The Sena Medal (Gallantry) is conferred by the Indian Army to recognise acts of outstanding courage or devotion to duty that hold particular importance for the force. On Thursday, the Indian government announced gallantry awards for 36 Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel in recognition of their pivotal roles in Operation Sindoor. NEW DELHI: As festivities for Independence Day begin, the centre on Thursday awarded Vir Chakra to nine Indian Air Force officers for their brave contributions in the service of the nation during Operation Sindoor. The Vir Chakra has been awarded to nine Indian Air Force officers, including fighter pilots, who targeted terrorist groups' headquarters in Pakistan's Muridke and Bahawalpur and the neighbouring country's military assets. Group Captains (GP) Ranjeet Singh Sidhu, Manish Arora, Animesh Patni, Kunal Kalra, Wing commanders (WG CDR) Joy Chandra, Squadron Leaders (Sqn Ldr) Sarthak Kumar, Siddhant Singh, Rizwan Malik, Flight Lieutenant (FLT LT) Aarshveer Singh Thakur have been awarded Vir Chakra. The Indian Air Force has brought down at least six Pakistani aircraft in the action. Vir Chakra is a military bravery award presented to wartime heroes for their gallant actions on the battlefield. It is third in line after Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra. This comes after Air Chief Marshal AP Singh said that India took down at least five fighter jets of Pakistan during Operation Sindoor and downed one large aircraft which was taken on at a distance of about 300 kilometres.

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Thursday awarded the Vir Chakra to nine Indian Air Force fighter pilots who played a key role in Operation Sindoor , targeting terrorist headquarters and Pakistan's military assets. Vir Chakra is India's third-highest wartime gallantry award. The awa rdees include: Group Captain Ranjeet Singh Sidhu Group Captain Manish Arora Group Captain Animesh Patnim Group Captain Kunal Kalra Wing Commander Joy Chandra Squadron Leader Sarthak Kumar Squadron Leader Siddhant Singh Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik Flight Lieutenant Arshweer Singh Thakur During the operation, the Indian Air Force also brought down at least six Pakistani aircraft. In coordinated action, the Indian Army carried out targeted strikes, eliminating nine terrorist bases belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Air Force executed precision strikes on four sites inside Pakistan, while five other locations were hit in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Operation Sindoor was a tri-services mission jointly conducted by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, entirely from Indian soil.
