BGT finalist opens up on tough year as he's only ever had '£500 in the bank'

Daily Mirror22-05-2025

Britain's Got Talent finalist Vinnie McKee has opened up on the difficult year his family has faced after the death of his brother
A Britain's Got Talent finalist has opened up about the staggering impact winning the £250,000 prize would have on him, confessing he's never had more than £500 in his bank account.
Vinnie McKee, who left the judges spellbound with his operatic rendition of The Proclaimers' hit 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)', earned himself the coveted Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell, catapulting him directly into the live shows.

Overwhelmed by the turn of events, Vinnie emotionally stated, "Things like this don't happen to people like me."

Now a contender in the final, Vinnie, who works at a holiday park, is among the eight acts vying for public votes.
In a candid chat with Yahoo!, reports the Express, Vinnie shared that the thought of winning such a substantial sum was so foreign to him that he might "pass out" from the shock.
He admitted: "I don't think I've had any more than £500 in my bank."
The 30-year-old also touched on the tough times his family has endured following his brother's passing and the unwavering support from his parents.
He affectionately remarked, "My mum is my best friend, and my dad is my best friend. We are such a close family.

"They're 70 this year. So I would probably get them a wee apartment so they don't have to use their pension to pay their rent anymore."
Reflecting on his journey since his Britain's Got Talent audition, Vinnie described the variety show as "the most incredible experience in my life," adding: "I hope it never ends now."

He continued: "Life is so short, my brother passed away last May, and it broke the family a little bit."
Vinnie remembered his mum encouraging him to apply for Britain's Got Talent following their family tragedy, and of his Golden Buzzer moment, he said: "It was a whole turnaround moment.
"When the confetti fell on stage, I looked up to the sky and I just thought to myself: 'Thanks for that.' He was watching me that day."

Strictly couple sign up for huge TV show after moving in together

Strictly Come Dancing stars, Molly Rainford and Tyler West, have reportedly filmed the new series of the BBC's gruelling travel show, Celebrity Race Across the World Strictly Come Dancing lovers Molly Rainford and Tyler West have signed up for Celebrity Race Across the World, according to reports. The EastEnders star, 24, and Kiss FM presenter, 29, who met on the BBC dance show in 2022, are said to have already filmed the smash-hit series in which a bunch of plucky celebrities pit their wits against each other while navigating around the globe. The last series of gruelling travel show, in which the rich and famous are not allowed to use mobile phones - or book flights - aired last August and saw stars, including Kelly Brook, Scott Mills, Jeff Brazier and Kola Bokinni race across South America. Lifting the lid on the programme's latest recruits, a source said: "Molly and Tyler are a huge coup for the show. They're popular with millions of viewers from their stints on Strictly, and Molly will bring in loads of EastEnders fans too." ‌ ‌ They continued in The Sun: "They are a very adventurous pair and have brilliant chemistry, so bosses are confident they will become huge fan favourites.' When contacted by the Mirror about the reports, the BBC declined to comment. Molly and Tyler moved in together last year after meeting on Strictly when Molly was paired with dance professional Carlos Gu and made it to the final, and Tyler was paired with Aussie, Dianne Buswell. It wasn't until the live tour earlier in 2023 that their relationship blossomed into something more, but since then, things have gone from strength to strength. Speaking to MailOnline, Molly said: "We are good and going strong and are actually moving in together - we're just going through, you know dining tables and sofas and all that kind of stuff, it's exciting." ‌ Praising his partner for her attention to detail, Tyler confessed: "Molly's turned into a whole interior designer so I'm just taking a complete back seat!" Tyler began his presenting career on CBBC before being snapped up by Kiss FM for his very own show. Meanwhile, EastEnders star Molly, who was cast as Anna Knight - daughter of George Knight (Colin Salmon) and Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) - in the BBC soap in 2023, rose to fame for her performance on Britain's Got Talent when she was just 11 years old. ‌ Thanking media mogul Simon Cowell for kick-starting her career, she took to Instagram, saying: "I did Britain's Got Talent in 2012 when I was 11 years old. "That definitely changed my life because after getting to the finals, I was sponsored by Sony Music and Simon Cowell to go to the Sylvia Young theatre school. From those auditions throughout school, I got into the CBBC world." The actress also has a famous dad, who many fans are just finding out about. Molly's father is former footballer Dave Rainford. ‌ The 46-year-old began his career at Colchester United as a teenager in 1997 before playing for Slough Town, Heybridge Swift, Bishop's Stortford and AFC Hornchurch. The midfielder signed with Chelmsford City in 2008 before becoming their assistant manager in 2012. He hung up his boots in 2014, but now holds a senior position with the Premier League, serving as its head of education and academy player care.
