Russell Brand seen attending local church in Florida on Easter Sunday - just days before his UK court appearance on rape and sexual assault charges
He is just days away from his first scheduled court appearance after being charged with a series of sex crimes, including rape.
But comedian Russell Brand is continuing to live his life while embracing his newfound Christian faith as he enjoyed Easter celebrations over the weekend with members of a congregation near his US home in Florida.
The actor-turned-activist said he was having a 'beautiful Resurrection Day with so many joyful souls' on Sunday as he posed for photos on what is believed to be Pensacola Beach in Florida, including one alongside John Spencer, the founding pastor of the nearby Coastline Calvary Chapel.
Brand, 49, was earlier this month charged with one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape and two counts of sexual assault, allegedly committed between 1999 and 2005 against four separate women.
The alleged offences are said to have taken place in Bournemouth and the Westminster area of London.
The Metropolitan Police began investigating Brand in September 2023 after a number of allegations were first reported by Channel 4 's Dispatches and The Sunday Times.
He moved to the US last year with his wife, Laura Gallacher – sister of TV presenter Kirsty – and their three young children, claiming it was because he had become an 'inconvenience' to the 'media, government and judiciary' in Britain.
The former Left-wing media darling has since been feted by the pro-Donald Trump 'Make America Great Again' movement and made a series of anti-vax and other conspiracy theory claims.
Last year, he was baptised in the River Thames by his friend, the TV adventurer Bear Grylls, and he now regularly discusses his religion on social media and the streaming platform Rumble.
In a video posted to X after the charges were announced against him, Brand denied the allegations. He said: 'I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord. I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile, but what I never was, was a rapist.
'I've never engaged in non-consensual activity. I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.'
He added: 'Of course I am now going to have the opportunity to defend these charges in court and I'm incredibly grateful for that.'

"I have been feeling tired since the new year began and although it's probably just life-ing, there's always a niggling worry that it's back. "All I can do is carry on doing healthy things, moving my body, practising mindfulness and living each day with gratitude that I got to breathe again this morning. "So on we go! Batting away those intrusive thoughts and getting on with it. To anyone either going through a cancer diagnosis or anyone who has recovered from cancer and feels like this: I've got you, and my inbox is always open. "And remember, anything that doesn't feel right: get it checked out. Early detection is key." Reflecting on her television career in another heartfelt Instagram message, she shared insights into her acceptance of being 'unsuccessful' on TV, adding: "Do I miss telly? I miss the money! Other X-rated shows force Love Island to push boundaries - but at what cost?
Returning to unedited Love Island sex on camera likely to produce more problems for show makers than solutions Love Island's last throw of the dice will be as sad as it is fascinating to watch. We We now know that the decision-makers of ITV 's reality show will return to broadcasting scenes of contestants having sex, should they arise. X-rated capers were edited out a few years back after the likes of Emma-Jane Woodham, Terry Walsh, Tommy Fury, Molly Mae and many others threw caution and their clothes to the wind. Guests to the villa mucked about like rabbits as their continuous on-screen copulation quickly became a feature of the first few series. But emotional and mental health concerns in the heightened, ruthless era of social media - not to mention issues related to broadcasting sexually risqué material - saw the Love Island guidelines tightened up in 2018. Less became more as at least something was left to the imagination from that period. Now we're back. From the noises ahead of its return on Monday night, it would appear sex on camera is being revisited as a solution to the show's plunging ratings. Especially with mainstream media outlets currently struggling to resist their temptation to try and normalise the likes of adult performer Bonnie Blue. On current dating shows such as Channel 4 's Naked Attraction, participants already choose partners on the basis of what their private parts look like. Forget their charm, charisma or personalities, contestants stand starkers in pods that first show their lower halves - which are examined by the picker and TV viewers - then the top. Imagine going into work the day after being rejected (or even selected!) off that. On the E4 show, Open House, couples arrive at a luxury retreat to test whether opening up their relationships to have sex with other couples or individuals will strengthen their own. And yes, the cameras do switch to infra red when both parties decide they'd like two (or three) to become one. That's before you get to the streaming shows on Netflix and YouTube not bound by Ofcom guidelines. Love Island's lack of coitus by comparison has clearly led producers to row back on their performative consideration for contestants' love-term futures. Never mind the threat of losing commercial deals as brands steer clear of Islanders swerving out go their lane to engage in conduct incompatible with their values. Visits to 'the restaurant', 'the nail shop' and the other euphemisms for sex are welcome again. You'd suspect the selection process for this new series will have been conducted with willing participants in mind. Producers will doubtless be delighted with another Terry and Emma-Jane who, in 2016, had sex on top of the covers in the shared bedroom. Or Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies, who had to deny having unprotected sex on the way to winning the 2017 series. You'd also be forgiven for thinking show bosses would have no compunction about broadcasting just that little bit too much, to escape with a ticking off from toothless Ofcom but grab the headlines and returning viewers that would make it worth it. Because like that other fading concept, Big Brother, whose producers kick contestants off the show for doing exactly the kind of thing they throw big money at them for, Love Island chiefs want controversy. They want notoriety. They want to go viral. They want people to care again. The clue, though, is in the name. Surely the participants want to find love, not sex. Surely they are there to establish emotional connections and foster lasting relationships. Not to be on a televised lads or girls' holiday. Shows like the Netflix hit Love Is Blind smash it in several countries because they focus on bonding, not boning. And once the boundaries on Love Island are pushed, what then? Would every contestant have to be willing to have sex on camera? And what does it say about our society that so many viewers simply shrug their shoulders over it? Because it might titillate and fascinate once again - but it will throw up more questions than answers. Ends

Gogglebox star reveals life-changing health diagnosis he's 'hidden for decades'
Former Gogglebox star Daniel Lustig-Webb has publicly shared that he is deaf in one ear after decades of hiding his health condition. The 50-year-old TV personality rose to fame during his five-year tenure on the hit Channel 4 reality series which he featured on with his ex-husband Stephen Webb from 2018 to 2023. Earlier this week he opened up to his 121,000 Instagram followers about the life-changing childhood diagnosis that has 'shaped his life'. 'I've been half deaf since I was a child,' he said in a new interview. He explained that he contracted mumps when he was younger causing an infection which ultimately led to 'complete and permanent hearing loss in one ear.' Before continuing to Scenemag: 'For years, I hid it. I didn't want people to see me as 'different' or less capable. At school, it was tough, I was often picked on and teachers told me I was 'thick' because I struggled to concentrate, not realising it was because I couldn't hear properly. 'It made me really insecure. I thought I was just failing.' He described trying to keep up in social situations 'exhausting' due to his condition and has at times been 'forced to pretend' he could hear what people were saying which took 'its toll'. 'I've had to learn to listen differently, and sometimes I just switch off,' the Hove-based hairdresser added. 'I feel ready to be open about it. At 50, I feel like it's finally time to stop hiding and to be proud of who I am,' he explained alongside his plans to learn sign language to connect with the wider community. 'Deafness isn't a weakness, it's part of me,' Daniel shared hoping to shed light on the 'isolation and frustration' that comes with being hard of hearing. 'It's part of millions of lives. And it should be talked about openly, without shame,' he continued. The latest figures from the Royal National Institute for Deaf People indicating upwards of 18 million adults across the UK are affected by hearing loss or tinnitus. As he enters a new decade he is 'learning to love and accept all parts of [himself]'. Fans have shared their support for Daniel in the comments on Instagram. 'You should never hide yourself you are a beautiful person inside and out,' jopurdy2 said. 'Be proud and loud, love and hugs,' shared. Earlier this year, Daniel opened up about the impact of his breakup with his ex, Stephen. The pair – who had been together for 11 years and married for six – announced their shock break-up in April 2024 but have remained in each other's lives as friends.
