Kelsey Plum awkwardly calls out Caitlin Clark's All-Star team no-show for players' meeting
During her postgame press conference, Plum, who was on Napheesa Collier's team, explained that members of Caitlin Clark's team (Collier and Clark were the captain of their respective team) weren't very present when both teams met before the game to coordinate wearing their warmup shirts with the message 'Pay Us What You Owe Us.'
'It was a very powerful moment. As players, we didn't know that that was going to happen. It was a genuine surprise,' Plum said of the fans chanting 'pay them' while WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert was speaking on the court after Saturday's game ended.
'The t-shirt was determined this morning. Not to tattletale, but zero members of Team Clark were very present for that.'
Liberty All-Star Sabrina Ionescu, who was on Team Clark, looked surprised as she was sitting alongside Plum at the press conference.

'That really needed to be mentioned,' ionescu said sarcastically as she and Plum laughed.
'I'm trying to the make the situation light, OK,' added Plum, who is the vice president of the WNBPA.

It was clear that Ionescu wasn't expecting that from Plum, who went on to explain that the players wanted to be united in their message.
'I think it was just all of us getting on the page before the game and we wanted to do something that was just united and collective. I thought that was a vert powerful moment and it got the point across. And sometimes, you don't have to say anything.'

While Clark was present all weekend, she was unable to play in the game due to a groin injury.
All of the players on Team Clark and Team Collier warmed up for Saturday night's WNBA All-Star Game in black shirts with the message: 'Pay us what you owe us' with the WNBPA logo amid ongoing CBA negotiations.
They decided on the shirts after the players and the league failed to reach a new collective bargaining agreement at an in-person meeting Thursday.

The players have been vocal about wanting to be paid more.
'We get a very tiny percentage of all the money that's made through the WNBA, which obviously is made through the entertainment we provide,' Collier said on the decision to wear the shirts. 'So we want a fair and reasonable percentage of that.'

Sixers star Tyrese Maxey marvels at LeBron James' fitness regimen
Tyrese Maxey is one of the NBA's brightest young stars, and he's a bright spot on a Philadelphia 76ers team that is facing some tough questions these days. The guard eclipsed 25 points a game in both of the last two seasons, and during the 2023-24 campaign, he earned his first trip to the NBA All-Star Game. With major injury concerns surrounding fellow Sixers stars Joel Embiid and Paul George, Maxey has been putting in work this summer with the hope of raising his game another notch this fall. He had the privilege of getting to work out with Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, and he was left marveling at James' passion and work ethic even after 22 seasons in the league. Maxey told ClutchPoints what impressed him about the NBA's all-time leading scorer. 'I think the biggest thing is for me and what I can take from him is just his passion for the game,' Maxey told ClutchPoints. 'Like, I'm extremely passionate. I love basketball. Anytime I can do anything that pertains to basketball, I want to do it. But this man is going on like Year 23 and he was working out and talking and involved like it was probably Year five for him, you know what I'm saying? And that's amazing to see. I think anybody who's able to watch him, not just work out but play should feel honored because it's amazing.' James' legacy is secure at this point, and many consider him one of the two or three greatest players in basketball history. But he will be returning for at least one more season, and his agent, Rich Paul, affirmed earlier this summer that he wants to win a fifth NBA championship. Maxey also said that James has been helpful toward his own efforts. 'I don't know how many times I've worked out with him now,' Maxey admitted. 'I mean, that's crazy to say and, I guess, that's how I know I am getting a little old. But yeah, it's good work, man. It's good work. He does a good job of talking and just being vocal and helping. I'm very appreciative of him. He's done a lot.' Maxey, who is 24 years of age, happens to also be represented by Paul's Klutch Sports Group.

Ben Shelton beats Taylor Fritz in an all-American semifinal in Toronto
TORONTO (AP) — Fourth-seeded Ben Shelton beat second-seeded Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-3 in an all-American semifinal match Wednesday night in the National Bank Open Open. Shelton will face 11th-seeded Karen Khachanov of Russia, a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4) winner over top-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany in the first semifinal in Masters 1000 hard-court event. 'I've seen so many big improvements in my game this week, that's what I'm most happy about, how I'm executing, how little I'm hesitating, how I'm returning,' Shelton said. 'There are a lot of things to be proud about and beating two top-10 guys back-to-back is huge for me.' The 22-year-old Shelton is seeking his third career ATP Tour title. He won in Tokyo on hard courts in 2023 and Houston last year on clay. 'I'm just really excited to see myself executing like this, not wondering if the shot is going to go in or out, but expecting it to go in,' Shelton said. The 26-year-old Fritz has 10 career victories, winning this year on grass at Stuttgart and Eastbourne. The start of the match was delayed 15 minutes because of a problem with the electronic line-calling system. Khachanov, a seven-time tour winner, survived a match point. 'Today was a real close one,' Khachanov said 'I was match-point down. If the ball touches the net and drops over we wouldn't be talking now.' Zverev, the 2017 champion with 24 tour titles, is No. 3 in the world. 'The first set was terrible,' Zverev said. 'I kind of gave him a headstart and he's too good to not use that.' Zverev was the top seed with top-ranked Jannik Sinner — the 2023 winner — and No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz skipping the expanded event.
