Bengal to set up shopping malls in every district HQ, says Mamata
"We are setting up big shopping malls in every district headquarters. State govt will give land for only Re 1. But there is only one condition: we want two floors for self-help groups (SHG) as we have excellent artisans. I need two floors for women of SHGs. You can use the remaining space for a cinema hall, coffee house or whatever you wish. Whether you make the shopping mall six, seven or eight stories high, I don't need to see.
On those two floors, products which are famous in the districts will be available," Banerjee said.
The state's MSME sector "is a master in employment generation", the CM said, adding: "We are No. 1 in the country in terms of MSME. More than 90 lakh units are there where over 1.3 crore people work. We have created over 660 MSME clusters. To encourage MSMEs and small-scale industries, we have arranged bank loans worth more than Rs 9.5 lakh crore.

Bengal has held 57 synergy meetings, and "in those meetings, we received investment proposals worth Rs 2.10 lakh crore. So, more employment will be generated", the CM said. She added that the state's social sector and industrialisation efforts have "helped reduce poverty in Bengal by 40%".
Highlighting the setting up of six economic corridors, Banerjee said: "More than 200 industrial parks, 46 private parks and 1,500 powerloom sectors have been set up."
There are 46 stalls at Shilpanna and it is fully air-conditioned. The CM added that Shilpanna will be an ensemble of different shops. "Sarees costing from Rs 300-3,000 will be available here. The leather bags you buy to travel are now produced here at much lower prices. Bengal ranks first in India in the leather industry," she said.

MCG & MCM now take AI route to boost property tax collection
Gurgaon: MCG and MCM have introduced artificial intelligence (AI) to boost revenue from property tax. MCG has so far generated a revenue of Rs 200 crore, which is around 72% of its target set for FY26, and MCM's has already crossed the Rs 29 crore-mark, the revenue it generated in the last fiscal year. Using AI, residents with outstanding dues are being identified and approached and their queries resolved. AI also assists them in paying their property tax dues. "We are using AI to boost our property tax collection. We have so far collected a revenue of Rs 200 crore in this financial year so far. Using AI, we generated a revenue of Rs 95 crore in July alone," MCG additional commissioner Yash Jaluka told TOI. This bot answers in real time. If you did not pay property tax, it will ask you what difficulties you faced and subsequently address your concerns. Before reaching out to people, we segregated the data into categories of those who promised to pay or refused to pay the taxes and those who faced difficulties in paying them. Most of the people contacted ended up paying the taxes," he added. Using AI for property tax collection was started as a pilot project in Yamunanagar, where Sinha served as the civic body commissioner before heading MCM. "We were successful in replicating the AI model here in Manesar and Gurgaon. We have collected Rs 29 crore so far, which is our income from property tax for the entire last fiscal," Sinha said. Meanwhile, residents pointed out that since MCG was generating so much revenue, it should invest money in the city's development. "The city is clearly lacking the kind of manpower and machinery it needs to function. MCG should learn from other municipal corporations and invest in the right kind of machinery," said Gauri Sarin, convener of the group Making Model Gurugram.

Bhopal civic team visits city to pick LMC cleanliness model
1 2 Lucknow: A delegation of Bhopal Municipal Corporation led by mayor Malti Rai visited Lucknow on Wednesday to study the city's waste management and sanitation practices. Lucknow has been ranked third in the Swachh Survey 2024-25 owing to the cleanliness initiatives of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation. The delegation inspected waste transfer stations and the Shivri solid waste management plant, besides reviewing the door-to-door garbage collection and its transportation system, composting process and recycling operations. Later, officials from both cities met at the Smart City Office to exchange details about their respective waste handling systems. The discussions focused on digital tracking, use of technology, citizen participation and municipal coordination. Teams from LMC, LSA, Lion Enviro, and Bhumi Green also joined the meeting. Bhopal and Lucknow mayors inspected a vending zone in zone-4. Mayor Sushma Kharkwal said, "Lucknow's achievement in swachh survey is the result of collective efforts of LMC and citizens.
