EBITDA of $2.16 billion, up 4% year on year
Performance driven by domestic gas demand and efficient management of planned shut-down program
ADNOC Gas continues to invest through the cycle to achieve its longer-term EBITDA growth target of over 40%
ABU DHABI, UAE, May 5, 2025 /CNW/ -- ADNOC Gas plc and its subsidiaries (together referred to as "ADNOC Gas" or the "Company") (ADX: ADNOCGAS) (ISIN: AEE01195A234), a world-class integrated gas processing and sales company, today announced net income of $1.27 billion and EBITDA of $2.16 billion for the first quarter of 2025, exceeding the equivalent quarter in 2024 by 7% and 4% respectively.
The performance was driven firstly by continued demand for domestic gas - up on the equivalent quarter last year - as a result of strong economic growth in the UAE, which lifted the total sales volume. Secondly, through efficient management of the planned shut-down program to boost processing capacity, a reduction in the number of days the Company's plants were offline led to a rise in processed volumes.
Fatema Al Nuaimi, Chief Executive Officer of ADNOC Gas, said: "This has been another outstanding quarterly performance by ADNOC Gas, supported by our resilient business model in a lower oil price market, which significantly exceeded market expectations. These results come on the back of successful supply agreements and the optimization of our ongoing shut-down program designed to power our continued growth. Looking ahead, we will use the strength of our balance sheet to invest through the cycle as we seek to realize EBITDA* growth of over 40% between 2023 and 2029."
ADNOC Gas signed a series of mid to long term LNG supply agreements valued at circa $9 billion with the Indian Oil Corporation and JERA Global Markets of Japan during Q1, reinforcing its role as a leading supplier of lower-carbon fuel. The agreements support the growth of the Company's international customer base as well as the transformation of global energy systems.
Q1 also saw a year-on-year uplift in CAPEX of 43% as ADNOC Gas continues to make the necessary investments through the cycle to grow the business and achieve its longer-term EBITDA targets. Project implementation remains on track, with the Company expecting to take a Final Investment Decision on its Rich Gas Development project in 2025.
As a result of the recently completed marketed offering of 3.1 billion shares in ADNOC Gas in which the free float increased by 4% to 9%, the Company is eligible for potential inclusion in the MSCI and FTSE indices as early as June and September respectively.

Would investors be mad to consider these UK shares at P/E ratios above 30?

Despite a reputation for trading at a discount to their US counterparts, some UK shares trade at very high price-to-earnings (P/E) multiples. But these can often be better value than they look. There are a couple of stocks from the FTSE 100 and the FTSE 250 that currently trade at P/E ratios above 30. But – for different reasons – I think both are worth considering. Informa's (LSE:INF) in the business of running trade shows and conferences. Its biggest competitive strength is the popularity of its events, which are leaders in their various industries. The firm also leases – rather than owns – the venues that host its events. As a result, it has relatively little in the way of physical assets, which makes for low maintenance costs. A consequence of this is that Informa's free cash flow is consistently higher than its net income. In 2024, net income was around £407m, while free cash flow was £771m. The company's cash flow statement indicates that a lot of the difference is due to amortisation costs. Some of these relate to the firm's acquisition of Ascential in 2024. There are some important risks to consider. One of the most obvious is the possibility of a trade war, which is especially live at the moment and could be significant. Importantly though, I don't think the stock's as expensive as its P/E multiple suggests. On a free cash flow basis, it trades at a multiple of 13 and this seems much more reasonable. Shares in FTSE 250 brick manufacturer Ibstock (LSE:IBST) currently trade at a P/E ratio of almost 50. But there's a very clear reason for this. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) the number of housing completions has been falling since 2021. And that has been weighing on demand for bricks. There's reason to believe though, that the long-term picture's much more positive. The UK has a shortage of housing that might well lead to strong demand over the next decade and beyond. If this causes Ibstock's earnings to get back to where they were at their peak, the current share price implies a P/E ratio of around 8. I think that means the stock might not be as expensive as it looks. Ongoing developments in housing construction are a potential risk for the firm. Some new building techniques require fewer bricks than traditional ones and this is worth paying attention to. Investors therefore shouldn't be complacent when it comes to the stock. But they also shouldn't take a high P/E ratio at face value as a sign the company's shares are overvalued. Valuing a stock isn't just about looking at the multiples it trades at. A high P/E ratio says more about investor expectations than the underlying business. With Informa, the business generates more cash than its net income indicates. And Ibstock's profits should gather momentum in the event of UK housebuilding picking up in the future. I don't think investors would be mad to consider buying either at today's prices. I see both as reasons to look past the headline multiples when it comes to evaluating stocks. 3 reasons I won't let ChatGPT anywhere near my ISA!

A lot of peopleare excited about the potential of AI tools like ChatGPT to help them find information and make suggestions. But while some hope such a tool can help them decide what shares to buy for their ISA, I will not be touching that approach with a bargepole! Why not? Here are three of my reasons! Nobody knows what will happen in future, including in the stock market. Smart human investors consider a company's track record, but in the context of trying to decide how it may perform in future. AI tools often like concrete rather than abstract inputs. I fear that means they may over-emphasise a company's known past performance, instead of synthesizing its unknown possible future performance. Each investor is different. But, if 100 investors were to ask an AI tool what the best shares to buy are, I think the answers may be fairly consistent. Now in fairness, ChatGPT did respond to my prompt, 'what's the best share for my ISA?' by saying it can depend on factors like one's investment goals, risk tolerance, and time horizon. Still, not paying enough attention to individual context could be highly problematic. Different investors have their own objectives and risk tolerances. Something I have noticed ChatGPT seems to struggle with fairly regularly is clearly distinguishing between facts and people's opinions. Asking it what I ought to with my ISA, I fear that part of the response may potentially mix up facts and opinions. For example, when I asked ChatGPT what the best share is for my ISA, although it said it would need more information as 'best' depends on different factors, it nonetheless went on on the same page to offer me a list of 'popular and potentially strong-performing shares commonly held in ISAs (based on current sentiment)'. What 'current sentiment' (whatever that means: whose sentiment is it?) thinks are the best shares for my ISA may not actually be the best shares for my ISA – or anywhere close. For example, one share on the list is one I own: Diageo (LSE: DGE). I do think it has strong prospects, which is why I bought it. But the share price performance has been poor: the FTSE 100 stock has fallen 28% in a year. What about the dividend? Diageo's 4.1% yield beats the FTSE average but is nowhere near the highest yield on the index. Yes, it has a strong track record of annual dividend increases – but nowhere near as strong as Spirax, for example. So, is Diageo really the 'best share for my ISA'? It could turn out to be. After all, it has strong brands, a large addressable market, proven business model, and unique assets. But it also has substantial debt and faces changing market dynamics that could see alcohol consumption fall, hurting Diageo's sales and profits. In other words, while Diageo may turn out to be the best share for my ISA, there are far too many unknowns to have any certainty. Investing takes time, skill, a sense of one's own objectives and risk tolerance, as well as an ability to interpret facts. I will not be leaving that to ChatGPT!
