‘Setting a plan of action for next 5 year…': PM Modi hails ‘historic day' on Philippines President's Delhi visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met Philippines President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr at Hyderabad House, wherein their talks were aimed at further cementing the friendship between the two nations. After the meet, addressing reporters, PM Modi hailed 'a historic day for bilateral relations' between the two Asian nations. PM Narendra Modi said, 'We are taking India to the levels of a strategic partnership. This will give our relationship a new speed and depth, and give strength to our relationship in the Defence and Security Sector.' 'In the last few years, there has been progress in our relations in all sectors- trade, defence, maritime, health, security, food security, development partnership, and people-to-people ties. It is a matter of great happiness that we are setting a plan of action for the next five years.' PM Modi said adding, 'Till July 2027, the Philippines is India's country coordinator. In 2026, you will preside over the ASEAN Chair'. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his appreciation for the Philippines' decision to grant visa-free entry to Indian tourists, describing it as a welcome move. He announced that, in a reciprocal gesture, India would offer free e-visas to tourists from the Philippines. PM Modi further stated that efforts would be undertaken this year to establish direct flight connectivity between India and Manila, enhancing travel and tourism ties between the two nations. India and the Philippines have conducted joint naval exercises for the first time in the disputed South China Sea — a significant military deployment that has provoked a strong reaction from China, according to an Associated Press report. Beijing has long-standing territorial disputes with both Asian democracies and a historic regional rivalry with New Delhi. The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, General Romeo Brawner, stated on Monday that the two-day joint naval sail and exercises, which commenced on Sunday, were successfully carried out, the AP report added. Brawner expressed hope that Filipino forces would engage in further joint manoeuvres with the Indian military in the future. When asked whether Chinese forces had responded in any way, General Brawner remarked, 'We did not experience any untoward incident but we were still shadowed. We expected that already.' This is the first visit by the President of Philippines, a Southeast Asian country to India since he assumed office back in 2022, marking a significant milestone, as his visit aligns with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. He is accompanied by First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos and a high-level delegation, including several Ministers from his Cabinet. Philippines President is visiting India from August 4-8.

Instagram unveils new analytics to help creators track what works and why
Instagram is rolling out new analytics features to give content creators clearer insight into how their posts perform and how audiences interact with them. The Meta-owned platform announced that these updates aim to help creators understand audience behaviour at a more detailed level, including the timing and type of engagement on individual posts. Instagram introduces new tools to help creators track engagement, post performance, and audience growth more accurately.(Pexels) Detailed Insights on Reels and Carousels One of the major additions is Reel Like Insights, which lets users see the exact second a viewer liked a video. This is visualised through an interactive chart that helps pinpoint moments that captured attention. Alongside this, the analytics section will display other engagement metrics such as likes, shares, saves, comments, and the total number of accounts that interacted with the Reel. Also read: Xiaomi Unveils New AI Voice Model to Boost Auto, Home Tech Instagram also launched Carousel Like Insights, which functions similarly but applies to photo carousel posts. This tool shows which slide in a carousel led someone to like the post. A pie chart breaks down interaction data between followers and non-followers, and it highlights which individual slides received the most likes. In a shift from account-wide analytics, Instagram now allows creators to access post-specific demographic insights. Previously, creators could only view general demographic data such as age, country, and gender across their entire account. With the new update, the same information is now available for individual posts and Reels, giving a clearer picture of which segments of an audience respond to specific content. Also read: How to quietly limit someone on Instagram without blocking, unfollowing, or causing drama Insights on Follower Growth Instagram has also upgraded its Followers insights section. Creators can now identify the exact content, both Reels and posts, that has contributed most to follower growth. This section displays metrics on new follows, unfollows, and overall growth trends over a selected period. This breakdown helps creators understand which content types are driving audience expansion. Also read: Gaming mouse maker infected users with malware for weeks, then quietly replaced files without warning The final addition is an updated Viewers metric, which Instagram says will soon replace the 'Accounts Reached' measurement. This new metric will reflect total engagement more comprehensively. It will categorise interactions by content type, offering a clearer picture of what drives activity on the platform. These features are being gradually rolled out to users globally and are part of Instagram's ongoing efforts to offer creators more actionable data to refine their content strategies. Govt's ALMM amendment to aid domestic wind OEMs, reduce cost advantage for Chinese firms: Report
The recent amendment to the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) for wind turbine components is expected to benefit Indian wind original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) by reducing the cost advantage of Chinese players and strengthening domestic supply chains , according to a report by Crisil Ratings . The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), on July 31, amended the procedure for including and updating wind turbine models in the ALMM (Wind), mandating that OEMs source five key components—blade, tower, gearbox, generator, and special bearings—from ALMM (Wind Turbine Components) listed suppliers. These components constitute 65–70 per cent of the total cost of a wind turbine. The amendment also requires wind turbine data and control systems to be hosted within India through domestic data centres, servers, and R&D facilities, in a move aligned with data localisation and cybersecurity priorities. Crisil Ratings said the amendment will reduce the cost disadvantage for Indian wind OEMs as compared to Chinese competitors who import a large share of lower-cost components. Crisil's analysis covers companies accounting for 85–90 per cent of India's wind OEM industry by order book. 'Chinese players have expanded their market share from just around 10 per cent in fiscal 2019 to 40–45 per cent in fiscal 2025, benefiting from low-cost imported components,' said Ankit Hakhu, Director, Crisil Ratings. 'Assuming largely Indian wind component makers get added to the ALMM (Wind Turbine Components), Chinese wind OEMs will be required to source locally from them. This would reduce their cost advantage over Indian OEMs, and consequently their price advantage may begin to fade,' Hakhu said. 'With Indian wind OEMs already procuring domestically, and thus less likely to raise prices, the policy revision could shift the market share in favour of domestic manufacturers,' he added. According to the report, Indian wind OEMs, with a current market share of 40–45 per cent, already procure most of the mandated components locally. In contrast, Chinese wind OEMs operating in India import a larger portion of components, resulting in a 10–15 per cent cost advantage. Crisil said India has adequate but underutilised manufacturing capacity for the five key components. The new policy could enhance capacity utilisation and reduce import dependency. The amendment follows a similar model adopted in the solar sector, where the ALMM for solar modules was implemented in April 2024 to boost local production. The revised norms will apply to all wind turbine models—both existing and new—seeking enlistment in the ALMM (Wind), with some exceptions. The list of certified component suppliers will be released separately by MNRE. Crisil stated that the composition of this list—especially the inclusion of Indian versus foreign suppliers—will be a key factor to monitor. 'However, even with this amendment, competition will remain intense as the dominant Chinese player, which commands the lion's share of the market, is expected to stay put in India,' said Gauri Gupta, Team Leader, Crisil Ratings. 'That said, the policy revision will likely bring in a more level playing field among wind OEMs, which will improve cash flow resilience for Indian wind OEMs. The capacity utilisation of Indian wind OEMs is expected to increase to 50–55 per cent in the near term, up from 30–35 per cent in fiscal 2025, supported by healthy order books,' Gupta added. The new rules are also in line with the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat mission and aim to enhance the sector's resilience to global supply chain disruptions and geopolitical shocks.
