How ‘Love Island USA' forced a star's exit after racist posts resurfaced

Washington Post07-07-2025
After the first 'bombshell' entered the 'Love Island USA' villa this season, she quickly became a fan favorite and a front-runner to take home the show's $100,000 cash prize. But on Sunday night's episode, the show was hit with a different kind of explosion when Cierra Ortega, a 25-year-old L.A.-based content creator, was kicked off the show — the culmination of days of outcry after social media posts in which she'd used a racial slur resurfaced.

WATCH: Browns' 'Alpha Dawg' helmet reveal on Lake Erie waterfront was a disaster

The Cleveland Browns revealed their new look on Wednesday, just in time for the start of training camp. The Ravens AFC North rivals unveiled a new "Alpha Dawg" look featuring the all-brown helmet to pair with an all-brown jersey combination during the 2025 season. The "Alpha Dawg" look will be worn during three home games this season: Sept. 21 versus the Green Bay Packers, Oct. 19 versus the Miami Dolphins and Dec. 7 versus the Tennessee Titans. "'Alpha Dawg' embodies what we set out to be as the Cleveland Browns, the leaders of the pack. We're excited about this new alternate helmet and the ode it pays to the rich history of the color brown as part of our organization, switching it up from our iconic orange helmets," said JW Johnson, Cleveland Browns Executive Vice President and Partner. "We look forward to the team wearing the all-brown helmet and uniform combination for the first time on September 21 at Huntington Bank Field and leaning into the 'Alpha Dawg' mentality throughout the 2025 season." Prior to the reveal, the Browns had a floatng object that was covered just sitting at Lake Erie near downtown Cleveland. During the reveal, some poor guy took a fall into the Lake, but continued filming. The Brown helmet sat on a 20-foot barge with a large, circular object being covered by a Cleveland Browns tarp. And it helped tease the "Alpha Dawg" reveal. News3 in Cleveland capture the replica "Alpha Dawg" helmet on the barge. The most Browns snafu ever happened at their new helmet reveal

Someone took "Mistake by the Lake" a little too literally. This is the kind of thing that somehow makes perfect sense to have happened to the Cleveland Browns. They set up a cool event on Wednesday to unveil their new alternate helmets. The predominantly brown look will be a slick addition to Cleveland's uniforms. But at the unveiling, things didn't go exactly as planned. The Browns had a platform set up on the edge of Lake Erie, with a cover over an outsized version of the new helmet. As the cover was removed, a photographer on the corner of the platform got into position for a photo. But a couple sideways steps went a foot too far, and the photographer plunged into the lake. They're currently locked into maybe the NFL's only ever four-QB competition for the starting job. They're bringing some controversy to the city as they try to build a new stadium in the suburbs. And well, they just might not be very good. This probably won't be the last time the Browns' season feels more like it's sinking than swimming. Molly Gordon Spills on Working With 2 of the Internet's Boyfriends, Jeremy Allen White and Logan Lerman: 'My Job Is Easy' (Exclusive)

Molly Gordon is not complaining. The 29-year-old actress has achieved an enviable feat with her two most recent projects. In June, the fourth season of The Bear premiered to rave reviews, and she's following up that success with the upcoming film, Oh, Hi! In the hit FX series about a moody Chicago chef, Gordon plays Claire, a childhood love interest of Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), who reconnects with him later in life. In Oh, Hi!, she chains Logan Lerman to a bed after their first trip as a couple takes an unfortunate turn when he confesses he doesn't want to date her. Between the two projects, she's worked with two of the internet's favorite boyfriends — White and Lerman — and she knows she's lucky. "They're both lovely," Gordon tells PEOPLE of her two costars at Sony Pictures Classics and The Cinema Society's screening of Oh, Hi! at the Roxy Cinema and Jimmy on July 22. "They're both lovely people, so that's the similarity [between them]," she adds. "But, yeah, I'm lucky," Gordon says. "My job is easy." Lerman, 33, who joins his costar for the joint interview ahead of the screening, says it still "shocks me any time somebody says" that he's an internet boyfriend — even as Gordon teases, "You know that." "It's a very jarring thing to be told," Lerman admits. "But it's a sweet compliment, so that's nice." The actress had both aforementioned viral crushes by her side as she stepped out for the celebration in New York City. White, 34, attended the screening and party with Gordon, while Lerman was joined by his fiancée, Analuisa Corrigan. It was the first time that Gordon and White were photographed together since they were spotted sharing a kiss in Los Angeles last year. Following the PDA moment, a source told PEOPLE that there had been "set rumors early on that they had intense chemistry even when not filming," but they "didn't start hanging out romantically" until the summer of 2024. At the time, the source said the actor "really seems into Molly" and "they're affectionate, often in deep conversations and seem curious to get to know each other better." Neither White nor Gordon has spoken publicly about the nature of their relationship since. The Theater Camp star did briefly touch on the response to her and White's kiss during a recent interview with Vanity Fair, as she said, "With the internet, I just think — I even see it in myself as a fan of things — we're just a more judgmental society." The actor, who will next play Bruce Springsteen in the upcoming biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere, was linked to singer Rosalía prior to speculation about his off-camera relationship with Gordon. They were last seen together in July 2024, a year and a half after their first sighting. White was previously married to Addison Timlin, with whom he shares daughters Ezer and Dolores.
