In a report on Gen AI use in India, Google and research agency Kantar says that around 31 per cent Indians have so far tried apps like Google Gemini, ChatGPT and Deepseek. To put it another way, around 60 per cent are either not aware of these tools or have not tried them yet. But in the report, which is based on a n18-city survey of 8000 people, Google also notes that a lot of people in India do want to make AI tools part of their daily life. advertisementThe motivations for such desires are many, with most respondents hoping that AI tools like Gemini would help them be more productive and more creative. Google in its study notes that while AI excitement is high, it's still early days for adoption. So far only 31 per cent have tried any Generative AI tool, notes Google. The Google-Kantar report notes that 'the research also showed a strong, innate desire among Indians to improve and excel, with the majority seeking to boost productivity (72 per cent), enhance creativity (77 per cent), and communicate more effectively (73 per cent) in their daily lives' using the Gen AI tools.
On Friday, Google also showcased its latest AI tools to an audience in India, highlighting the strong performances of reasoning models like Gemini 2.5 Pro (experimental) and Veo 2, which is a text-to-video AI tool. advertisementManish Gupta, senior director at Google Deepmind, said 'Gemini represents Google's most state-of-the-art AI models designed to push boundaries, enabling experiences that were previously unimaginable – for instance, creating video with Veo 2 or having interactive intuitive conversations with Gemini Live. We're continuing to push the envelope in our goal to build a truly personal, helpful AI assistant for everyone.'Shekar Khosla, vice president of marketing at Google India, noted: 'We're seeing Gemini make a difference in how they feel about their own capabilities, with 92 per cent of Gemini users feeling more confident in their daily lives.'Google report notes that in India, the majority of people are interested in using AI to increase personal efficiency. Of the 8000 respondents, 72 per cent expressed the need to be more productive in their daily lives with the help of AI. At the same time, around 77 per cent wanted to be more creative and 73 per cent wanted to communicate more effectively. One interesting bit that Google found was that people were not only hoping to use AI at work, but also for personal tasks. The report notes that 76 per cent respondent hoped to save time on everyday tasks like planning travel or managing budgets with AI tools while 84 per cent wanted to be more creative with everyday tasks like helping kids with homework or trying recipes.Tune In

Made by Google 2025: Google Pixel 10 series launch, how to watch, and what to expect

It's finally here. Google's biggest event of the year takes place tonight, with the Pixel 10 phones set to make their grand debut alongside the Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Buds 2a. Over the past few weeks, there has been no shortage of leaks and rumours, giving us a pretty fair idea of what to expect. But tonight's event is where it all comes together officially. The launch is scheduled for Wednesday, August 20, with the livestream kicking off at 10 AM PT, which means 10:30 PM IST for those watching in India. If you want to catch it live, simply head over to the Made by Google YouTube channel and set a reminder so you don't miss the star of the show will undoubtedly be the Pixel 10 series, which is said to include four models — Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Starting with the standard Pixel 10, Google is said to be making bigger changes here than in previous years. A fresh colour palette has been rumoured, with Indigo, Frost and Limoncello joining the line-up. The phone is also tipped to introduce a telephoto camera for the first time on a non-Pro Pixel, which would be a significant shift. Under the hood, the Pixel 10 is expected to be powered by the Tensor G5 chip, reportedly built by TSMC, with a battery close to 5,000mAh and 29W wired charging support. Pricing is rumoured to start at $799 (roughly Rs 69,600) in the US for the 128GB base variant, the same as last Pixel 10 Pro, meanwhile, is expected to stick closer to its predecessor in design but bring refinements in performance and features. Rumours suggest a 6.3-inch AMOLED display, polished aluminium edges, and a 4,870mAh battery with 29W wired charging. It will run Android 16 out of the box and, like the rest of the series, use the new Tensor G5 chip. Camera quality is expected to remain one of its strongest points, while colour options will include Moonstone, Obsidian, Jade and Porcelain. Pricing here is likely to start at $999 (roughly Rs 87,000) for the 128GB variant. For those who prefer an even bigger screen, the Pixel 10 Pro XL is the one to watch. This model has been tipped to feature a large 6.8-inch AMOLED display with slim bezels, a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits, and memory options going as high as 16GB RAM with up to 1TB storage. The battery is said to be a 5,200mAh unit, this time with faster 39W wired charging. The camera setup is expected to include a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 48-megapixel telephoto lens. Colour options will reportedly include Moonstone, Obsidian, Jade and Porcelain. Google itself has already teased the device in an official video. The device is rumoured to feature even slimmer bezels than last year's model, along with a 6.4-inch cover display. The foldable is tipped to arrive in Moonstone and Jade colourways. On the inside, it should house a 5,015mAh battery, support 23W wired charging, and include 15W wireless charging with Qi2 compatibility. It will also run on the Tensor G5 chip, like the rest of the family. The starting price is rumoured to be $1,799 (roughly Rs 1,56,700) in the US for the 256GB smartphones will take most of the spotlight, the Pixel Watch 4 is also expected to share the stage. The watch is tipped to launch in two sizes — 41mm and 45mm — with Wi-Fi and LTE versions for both. The display will reportedly be OLED with a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. A new charging system is on the way too, replacing the older magnetic puck with a cradle-style charger that should make top-ups much quicker. Reports suggest the watch can go from 0 to 50 per cent in about 15 minutes. As for prices, leaks point to the 41mm Wi-Fi model starting at $349 (roughly Rs 30,400) in the US, while the larger 45mm LTE version could cost $449 (roughly Rs 39,100). These are expected in colours like Iris, Strawberry and Fog Light, with a design that resembles older Pixel Buds but with a sleeker finish. Improvements in audio and battery life are expected, though specifics are unknown at the moment. The rumoured price is 149 Euros, which translates to roughly Rs 15,000. IIT-Roorkee, Futurense announce GenAI-powered cybersecurity programme

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, in collaboration with Futurense, has launched a nine-month hybrid programme scheduled to begin on October 18. According to a statement, this is India's first postgraduate certificate in AI/GenAI-powered cybersecurity, and is designed to address emerging threats such as deepfakes, AI-authored phishing, and large language model (LLM) exploits. IIT Roorkee data breach: A wake-up call for higher education institutions According to the notice from the institute, the course follows a role-mapped curriculum that prepares learners for positions in Security Operations Centres (SOC), cloud security, and LLM risk governance. Participants will be trained on more than 30 GenAI tools, including LangChain, GPT, SOAR, and SIEM, and will complete four or more real-world projects. The programme also offers optional immersion at the IIT Roorkee campus and readiness for the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) examination. Classes will be conducted on weekends in live online mode by IIT Roorkee faculty and industry mentors. Learners will also gain access to Futurense's AI Clinic for applied learning and practice. Faculty members involved in the programme emphasised the need for cybersecurity professionals who can respond to AI-driven risks. 'Cybersecurity today is no longer about protecting networks; it's more about defending algorithms, AI systems, and cloud pipelines. This programme is designed to prepare professionals for exactly that,' said Dr Gaurav Nayak, Assistant Professor at the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, IIT Roorkee. Highlighting the focus on bridging new industry requirements, Dr Raghavendra Rohit, Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Roorkee, noted that 'as GenAI reshapes every layer of the digital stack, the need for security professionals who can govern, simulate, and secure AI-native systems is critical.' According to Futurense, the collaboration combines academic training with industry mentorship. 'AI is already rewriting the rules of cybersecurity. This programme is built to ensure Indian professionals aren't just reacting; they're leading the charge,' said Raghav Gupta, Founder and CEO of Futurense.
