Lebanese army mourns officer killed in blast near Tyre

The Lebanese army announced the death of Warrant Officer Fadi Mohammad Al-Jassem, who was killed Monday in an explosion at a military position in the Wadi Al-Aaziyyeh area near Tyre, southern Lebanon.
According to a statement, the blast was caused by a suspicious object at one of the sites where the army operates.
The army said funeral arrangements would be announced at a later time.

Thursday, 14 August 2025 The LAF Command - Directorate of Orientation issued the following statement: An Intelligence Directorate patrol arrested the citizen (M.S.) and the Syrian ( in Jounieh for forming a gang involved in drug use and trafficking. The latter was also arrested for illegally roaming within Lebanese territory. A quantity of drugs was seized in their possession. Another patrol from the directorate carried out a raid in the Airport Road area and arrested the citizen (J.H.) for forming a network involved in immoral acts, threatening young women, and trafficking drugs, as well as the citizen (Z.A.) and the Syrian national (M.H.) for being part of this network. A quantity of drugs was seized in their possession. As part of the security measures carried out by the military institution across various regions, two LAF units, each supported by an Intelligence Directorate patrol, raided the residences of wanted individuals and arrested three citizens as follows: • Citizen (B.J.) was arrested in the Fissan area – Hermel for committing crimes including kidnapping citizens and foreigners, robbery with violence, car theft and smuggling, drug trafficking, and counterfeiting currency. Weapons and a quantity of drugs were seized in his possession. • Citizens (AA.H.) and (F.A.) were arrested in the town of Al Hisha – Akkar for shooting. Weapons and military ammunition were seized in their possession. The seized items were handed over, and the investigation was initiated with the arrestees under the supervision of the competent judicial authority.

Bassil reveals he submitted a ‘black file' on telecommunications to Parliament

Lebanese MP Gebran Bassil, head of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), revealed on Saturday via his X account that he had presented last week to the parliamentary inquiry commission overseeing the telecommunications dossier a 'black file' related to the sector, stating that he 'had already submitted it to the competent judicial authorities back in 2009.' He added that 'the file has received no follow-up, despite our repeated calls.' 'This file contains violations and evidence of more than one billion dollars in waste, and it is accompanied by official documents and proof,' he continued. He expressed hope that 'the parliamentary inquiry commission will take charge of this file in accordance with its prerogatives.'
