Three new nano fertiliser plants to be set up by PSUs, firms: Govt

The government on Tuesday said three more nano fertiliser plants will be set up with a total production capacity of 17 crore bottles per annum by private and public fertiliser companies.
Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Anupriya Patel, in her written reply to the Rajya Sabha, said the government is not directly involved in setting up of nano fertiliser plants across the country.
Overall seven nano-urea plants have been set up by fertiliser companies with a total production capacity of all these nano-urea plants presently in operation at 27.22 crore bottles (500 ml each) per annum.
Further, three nano DAP (Di Ammonium Phosphate) plants have been set up by fertilizer companies with a total production capacity of all these nano DAP plants presently in operation at 7.64 crore bottles (500 ml each) per annum.
In addition to this, "PSUs and other fertilizer companies have intimated about setting up of 3 more nano fertilizer plants, with a total production capacity of 17 crore bottles (500 ml equivalent) per annum," she said.
The minister said since inception, fertilizer companies have sold 10.68 crore bottles (500 ml each) of nano urea and 2.75 crore bottles (500 ml each) of nano DAP across all regions of the nation, including tribal-dominated regions.
The minister highlighted the steps taken to promote the use of nano fertilisers and said the central government has pursued with the states on use of nano fertilisers at various forums.
Nano-urea and nano-DAP are made available at Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samridhi Kendras (PMKSKs) by the companies. Nano-urea has been included under the monthly supply plan issued by the Department of Fertilizers regularly.
The ministry in collaboration with fertilizer companies has initiated a Maha Abhiyan for adoption of Nano DAP in all 15 agro-climatic zones of the country through consultations and field-level demonstrations.
Further, the ministry in collaboration with fertilizer companies has also launched campaigns for field-level demonstrations and awareness programs of nano-urea plus in 100 districts of the country, she added.

Govt schools in Belthangady to turn into smart classrooms
Mangaluru: With a vision to provide digital learning opportunities similar to those available in private schools, a total 110 govt schools in Belthangady will be transformed into smart classrooms. Under the Rajya Sabha Local Area Development Fund, Rajya Sabha member D Veerendra Heggade sanctioned Rs 1.5 crore for the initiative. Under this project, schools have already been selected, including eight aided schools in the taluk. Mahabala Kulal from the community development section of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, who is coordinating the project, said that the process of selecting schools started five months ago. "After consultation with the block education office at Belthangady, we selected 110 govt schools in the taluk. The project is funded from the local area development. Currently, the tender process is in progress. We expect smart classroom materials to reach before the celebration of Teacher's Day," he said. In order to convert existing traditional classrooms into smart classrooms, the beneficiary schools will receive LED TVs and other accessories. They will also receive a hard disk containing the entire school syllabus. Explaining the aim behind this initiative. Kulal shared that currently, such facilities are available only in private schools. "Heggade wanted such facilities extended to govt schools as well, to help them improve their academics. As a result, this project was planned and implemented," said Kulal, adding that this initiative aims to utilise modern technology for the educational development of children.

Gulf leads in migration with Saudi having highest Indian ECR workers
Mangaluru: Indian blue-collar workers constitute a significant portion of the workforce in several Gulf countries, notably Saudi Arabia. Recent data from five years indicates a strong trend of migration to the Gulf region for employment, particularly in the construction sector and other labour-intensive industries. Between Jan 2020 and June 2025, according to data shared by the ministry of external affairs in the Rajya Sabha on July 31, Indian expats working in blue-collar jobs are present in 14 countries, accounting for 16,06,964 individuals. The substantial number of Emigration Check Required (ECR) category workers in these countries underscores the economic ties and labour dynamics between India and the Gulf. Among the 14 countries, Saudi Arabia has the highest number of Indian workers, including those engaged in construction and labour-intensive work. The country currently has 695,269 workers, followed by the UAE (3,41,365 workers), Kuwait (2,01,959 workers), Qatar (1,53,501 workers), and Oman (1,16,840 workers). According to employers, mainly from Gulf countries, the revival of infrastructure and labour demand in Gulf countries started to see a notable surge in 2022 and 2023, with the highest number of workers (3,98,000) sent abroad in 2023 alone. Also, the utilisation of the Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) worth Rs 703 crore since inception has benefited over 3.5 lakh Indians with legal, medical, and emergency assistance abroad.

"Baseless": Deve Gowda Slams Trump Over "Dead Economy" Remark On India
Bengaluru: Taking a strong objection to the statement of US President Donald Trump's 'dead economy' remark on India, former Prime Minister and JD-S Rajya Sabha member H.D. Deve Gowda said that "even a small trader and a poor farmer in India, who conducts his business with great dignity, integrity and humanity, can teach many lessons to Mr. Trump". In a statement on Friday, the former Prime Minister said: "Like everybody else, I too have been surprised by US President Mr. Donald Trump's baseless and ill-tempered remarks on India and the Indian economy. I don't think modern history has seen another head of state who has been so volatile, uncivil and irresponsible. "Mr. Trump has not just behaved badly with India, but with every other country across the world. He has not spared his own longstanding allies. There is something fundamentally wrong with him which reason, diplomacy or statecraft cannot diagnose and address. It may not be correct to say anything more than this on his ill-tempered nature because it would mean lowering our own standards. Even a small trader and a poor farmer in India, who conducts his business with great dignity, integrity and humanity, can teach many lessons to Mr. Trump," Deve Gowda emphasised. "India is a sovereign nation that is diverse and democratic. Ever since Independence, it has always acted in supreme national interest. It has not blinked to Mr. Trump's bullying and has shown that it will never be dictated by threat. I can understand their frustration but they should not harm themselves, and their parties, and end up very soon in the dustbin of history along side Mr. Trump," Deve Gowda said.
