BREAKING NEWS Pam Bondi files motion to release secret Epstein grand jury testimony in desperate move to appease Trump
The move came after nearly two full weeks of President Donald Trump 's MAGA base demanded the administration make public all details of the investigation into the disgraced financier and convicted child sex offender.
Trump finally gave into the pressure on Thursday night when he instructed Bondi to make more materials public.
'Based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval,' he wrote on his Truth Social account.
Bondi started that process on Friday by filing with the Southern District of New York to unseal the highly-secretive grand jury court documents in the case.
Although the filing is submitted it doesn't mean the documents are coming anytime soon.
The grand jury information is only a part of the evidence that makes up the so-called Epstein files.
Trump's vow to unseal more information came after the Wall Street Journal published a 50th birthday card it said he allegedly sent to Epstein in 2003.
The president denies he wrote the letter and threatened to sue the publication.
The direction to unseal files came the same day that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed that Trump had no interest in appointing a special counsel to review the investigation.
In Friday's filing there are no requests to unseal the search warrants, which are also at the center of the case, or any other documents that might yield more substantive details of the investigation.
DOJ insiders tell the Daily Mail that believe that the search warrants are a key to the case and could provide insight into why more evidence was not initially seized and why some evidence Americans are looking for may no longer exist.
Trump's order to Bondi on Thursday suggests that his attorney general was not already authorized to ask the court to unseal the grand jury materials.
If done from the jump, the process could have been in motion months ago rather than just starting.
What it really means is that Americans may have to wait months or even years to get more answers – if they get them at all.
The unsealing of grand jury testimony presents a lot of obstacles and is perhaps one of the more difficult pieces of information to unseal in a case considering stringent secrecy rules that many courts are hesitant to lift.
Trump instructed Thursday, July 17 that Bondi unseal grand jury testimony in the Epstein case
The WSJ reported on Thursday that Trump's alleged birthday card to Epstein in 2003 featured a hand-drawn outline of a naked woman along with a signature 'Donald.'
The typewritten message read: 'Happy Birthday - and may every day be another wonderful secret.'
Trump is threatening a lawsuit against the newspaper and its owner Rupert Murdoch.
'The Wall Street Journal printed a fake letter, supposedly to Epstein. These are not my words, not the way I talk,' Trump posted to Truth Social. 'Also, I don't draw pictures.'
Trump said he told Murdoch the letter was a 'scam,' but that he printed the story anyway.
'I'm going to sue his a** off,' the president wrote.
It appears Trump is now fed up with the continued narrative around Epstein and the untiring demand – even from his base – for more to be released.
Earlier this month, the president repeatedly pleaded with his supporters to stop focusing on what he now calls the 'Jeffrey Epstein hoax.'
He posted on Truth Social multiple times claiming the claims of a 'client list' and other conspiracies surrounding Epstein were made up by Democrats to stoke division in MAGA world.

EXCLUSIVE Why disgraced George Santos is pleading for solitary confinement as he desperately seeks last-minute Trump pardon
Former Republican Rep. George Santos reports to jail on Friday - where he'll be serving a seven-year sentence for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. The fabulist gay ex-New York lawmaker sat down in the Poconos for an episode of the new podcast Sources Say with Juliegrace Brufke where he claimed a group of Republican members - mostly from New York - have pushed House Speaker Mike Johnson to tell President Donald Trump not to pardon him, an assertion several of them have denied. He also insisted in excerpts shared exclusively with the Daily Mail that he still wants to serve his time in protective custody instead of being forced to spend time with the general prison population. 'I'd rather be seven years alone then risk rape, gang-banged, shivved, killed, strangled, bullied,' he told Brufke, a Capitol Hill reporter with 24Sight News. 'It's a death sentence most likely for a gay man, look at the statistics. It's the truth,' he later added. During his first six months in office for the second time, Trump has embraced his role as pardoner-in-chief, doling out pardons to some controversial convicts including Virginia Sheriff Scott Jenkins, who was handing out deputy sheriff badges in exchange for cash. Trump also pardoned reality TV star couple Todd and Julie Chrisley, but Santos complained, 'I can't get past the gatekeepers,' to make the plea to the Republican president for himself. 'And I've tried relentlessly, but unfortunately I hit a wall when, you know - he denies it, he denies it, he denied it to me in text but I don't believe him unfortunately, Mike Johnson, a lot of people have said he's being, I guess, coerced by Nick LaLota, Andrew Garbarino, Mike Lawler and Nick Langworthy and Nicole Malliotakis, along with Max Miller, to not pardon me or else they would vote down the agenda,' Santos claimed. LaLota, Garbarino, Lawler, Langworthy and Malliotakis all represent New York, like Santos did during his short tenure in Congress, while Miller, who served in the president's first administration, is a congressman from Ohio. 'This accusation by George Santos is categorically false. Santos is a convicted fraudster whose credibility ranks somewhere between Pinocchio and Bernie Madoff. Congressman Lawler has never engaged in such discussions, period,' Lawler's communications director Ciro Riccardi told the Daily Mail. Langworthy's spokesperson added, 'No, he did not do that.' Johnson's office also denied Santos' bold claim. 'This allegation is unequivocally false. At no time has the Speaker had any conversations with the Trump Administration or anyone else regarding any potential pardon of Mr. Santos. Nor has he expressed any opinion on the matter one way or another to anyone, because the Speaker had no knowledge of the matter whatsoever,' a spokesperson told the Daily Mail. Johnson had also voted against expelling Santos from Congress in 2023 because of the precedent it would set, arguing the decision was for the congressman's constituents to decide. The other GOP lawmakers' offices had yet to respond to the Daily Mail's requests for comment. 'I think it's so political and some people have true, true hatred for me, I don't think it's likely at this point,' Santos said of a Trump pardon. Even before Santos was sworn-in in January 2023, The New York Times had revealed that he had fabricated parts of his resume - including working for Citigroup and Goldman Sachs. He also never attended Baruch College, where he claimed he had graduated from in 2010. A federal investigation uncovered that Santos had falsified reports to the Federal Election Commission and stolen the personal identity and financial information of contributors to his campaign, among other crimes. He was expelled from Congress in December 2023 - and sentenced to 87 months in April of this year. 'I'm not handling it well,' Santos admitted. 'As the days approach and I don't hear anything ... I've said, don't pardon me, commute my sentence, if restitution is what they want, I'll pay the restitution, but seven years is a political sentence.' Santos said 'of course' he's remorseful for the actions that will put him behind bars, adding, 'I hate people telling me that they know how I feel. That's just insane. It's arrogant, it's preposterous.' 'Look what I did to my own life? You'd think that I'm not remorseful?' he asked. 'Only those who are with me in my intimate setting on a day to day know how much I sit back and I cry sometimes myself to sleep of not just remorse but of - like I repent like everything.' 'If I could do it all over again it would be so different, not because I got caught, because I was blinded by ambition and I did so much stupid, right? In the name of what? Becoming a congressman. It's not even that cool,' he added. It has yet to be made public where Santos will be serving time - and won't be until he arrives, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons - but he described it as 'not the type of facility you would expect someone like me to go.' 'You'd expect to see me go to a place a lot more chill, right? They're putting me in somewhere the opposite,' he revealed. He said he's going into prison 'kind of blind.' 'I have spoken to other people who have gone to prison who are not former members of Congress,' he said. 'I don't want to make friends in there. Do I strike you like I want to make friends in prison?' Santos said he even stopped his Botox regimen ahead of Friday. 'Who am I going to freeze my face for, f***ing inmates?' he said.

Pro-Palestinian protesters expelled from Columbia University
Columbia University has announced disciplinary action against students who participated in pro- Palestinian demonstrations. The protests included one inside the Ivy League school's main library before final exams in May and an encampment during alumni weekend in 2024. A student activist group said that nearly 80 students were told they have been suspended for one to three years, or expelled. Columbia confirmed sanctions issued by a university judicial board also include probation and degree revocations. The move comes as the Manhattan university is negotiating with President Donald Trump 's administration to restore $400 million in federal funding. The administration pulled the funding, cancelling grants and contracts, in March because of what it described as the university's "failure to squelch antisemitism on campus" during the Israel - Hamas war that began in October 2023. Columbia has since agreed to a series of demands laid out by the Republican administration, including overhauling the university's student disciplinary process and adopting a new definition of antisemitism. 'Our institution must focus on delivering on its academic mission for our community,' the university said Tuesday. 'And to create a thriving academic community, there must be respect for each other and the institution's fundamental work, policies, and rules. 'Disruptions to academic activities are in violation of university policies and rules, and such violations will necessarily generate consequences.' It did not disclose the names of the students who were disciplined. In May, Columbia said it would lay off nearly 180 staffers and scale back research in response to the loss of funding. Those receiving non-renewal or termination notices represent about 20 per cent of the employees funded in some manner by the terminated federal grants, the university said. A student activist group said the newly announced disciplinary action exceeds sentencing precedent for prior protests. Suspended students will be required to submit apologies in order to be allowed back on campus or face expulsion, the group said, something some students will refuse to do. 'We will not be deterred. We are committed to the struggle for Palestinian liberation,' Columbia University Apartheid Divest said in a statement. Columbia was at the forefront of U.S. campus protests over the war in spring 2024. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators set up an encampment and seized a campus building in April, leading to dozens of arrests and inspiring a wave of similar protests nationally. Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has cut funding to several top U.S. universities he viewed as too tolerant of antisemitism. The administration has also cracked down on individual student protesters. detained in March over his participation in pro-Palestinian demonstrations. He is now suing the Trump administration, alleging he was falsely imprisoned, maliciously prosecuted and smeared as an antisemite.

New dad killed in wreck with dump truck while heading to pick up wife and newborn from hospital
A new father was killed in a collision with a dump truck while on his way to pick up his wife and baby from the hospital. Dennis Lewis Jr., 35, died Friday after his motorcycle collided with a dump truck near Libertyville, Illinois, a suburb north of Chicago. His daughter, Harley Rose, was born just three days earlier, according to a GoFundMe launched to support his family. According to witnesses, Lewis was on his motorcycle approaching an intersection with a green light when a dump truck made a left turn in front of his motorcycle, Lake County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli told The Independent. Lewis collided with the truck and was ejected from his motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Lewis died from blunt force injuries to his head and neck, Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek told the Lake and McHenry County Scanner. The truck driver is uninjured and cooperating with the investigation, Covelli said. Lewis never got the chance to hold his newborn daughter at home, according to the GoFundMe page. 'His sudden passing has left a tremendous hole in our hearts and a heavy burden on the mother of his newborn, who is now navigating the unimaginable: caring for a brand-new baby while grieving the loss of her partner,' the GoFundMe page reads. The funds will be used to support Harley Rose and her mother, Amberly. The page has a goal of $6,500 and has received more than $4,900 as of Wednesday morning. 'It's important to us that people understand Dennis didn't cause this — his life was taken unfairly, just days after he became a father for the first time,' the GoFundMe page reads. 'He never got the chance to bring Harley home.' The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
