Chaney nails historic King of the Hammers victory
In a week dominated by memorable performances, Ohio's Kyle Chaney shook the sport's current paradigm to its core by taking a historic overall victory in Saturday's King of the Hammers 'Race of Kings.' With a field filled with the sport's best drivers and most potent race vehicles, Chaney piloted a Can-Am based UTV to victory against machines costing four times as much (or more) that carry four to six times the horsepower.
For the most part, the first part of the race was over run over familiar territory. Up front, the factory Ford Bronco of former race winner Loren Healy got past pole winner Paul Wolff early. Healy led for much of the first lap and a half before succumbing to terminal drivetrain woes.
Defending race winner JP Gomez was first back to Hammertown after the second lap, hoping to make some time on a rapidly moving Jason Scherer, who had been carving through the field from his rear starting position. Also in the hunt at this point was the Jeep-based racer of Casey Currie.
In an unusual move by race promoter Dave Cole, this year's third lap was plotted over some virgin rock trails and kept secret until just before the race. Gomez was the first to enter the new section, which proved as much of a navigational challenge as a driving one. Close behind was former king Josh Blyler, followed by the Can-Am of Chaney and navigator Terry Madden before a second Can-Am of Cody Miller.

Without any pre-running of the so-called 'Mystery Lap,' the last circuit provided thrilling action on the rocks that saw Blyler and Gomez exchanging the physical lead before Blyer broke his car trying to extract himself out of the rocks. At the same time a solo Gomez was forced to fix a flat, opening the door for Chaney and Miller to get by. On the next rock section Chaney made it through cleanly, but Miller's car literary broke its chassis in half.
After that, it was down to Chaney and Gomez, with the latter having to stop at least once to overcome an electrical issue. Nobody else was within two hours of the leaders.
After coming so close to winning in 2024, Chaney finally took the King of the Hammer's 'Race of Kings' checkered flag, providing Can-Am the honors of being the first UTV-based vehicle to win the title. The veteran desert and short-course racer had dominated the KOH UTV rock races in the past but made the move to a purpose-built chassis with Can-Am components and reliable 37-inch Maxxis tires to finally win the big one.
A tired but happy Gomez came home second just over 30 minutes later, followed by Brian Caprera, Robby Gordon (who shared driving with son Max) and Cody Addington in fifth. Only 27 of the original 97 started earned a race finish, a testament to the difficultly baked into the 2025 Race of Kings recipe by KOH's Dave Cole.

The commitment by Ford and Ford Performance to King of the Hammers competition was evident by Brad Lovell's overall victory on Friday's Yokohama Tire Every Man Challenge race. A 2022 Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee, Lovell piloted his No. 4621 Amsoil Ford Bronco with son Adam as his navigator to a surprise win in the 4600 Stock class. The duo defeated all the 4800 Legends and 4500 Modified entries, that, on paper, offer far more capability and performance.

First physically back to the Hammertown finish line was Amber Slawson in the No. 70 Legends class machine, with Cody Young next in his No. 4862 Legends car. Slawson was hit with several time penalties that prevented her from becoming the first women to overall a KOH race, dropping her to third. Lovell's time was just 5h3952s, just over 14 minutes faster than Young's corrected time. After a long week of disappointments Cameron Steele earned a third-place finish in the Legends class, and fourth overall.
Taking 16th overall and winning the Every May Challenge Modified class was the No. 218 Toyota of Dan Wyrick. Only 30 of 120 starters managed to complete the two-lap marathon.

Thursday's Can-Am King of the Hammers UTV Championship race provided yet another platform for Polaris racer Brock Heger to add to this amazing current hot streak. Using last year's RZR Pro R Factory, the 2025 Dakar UTV champion and winner of the week's UTV Desert Challenge race secured the overall and Pro UTV Open class win as the only driver to finish in under four hours while crossing the line 26 minutes ahead of the next physical competitor.
Heger started the race from the second line after qualifying third, and once the green flag waved, it was clear that this would be another commanding performance. Setting a blistering pace from the start, he had already stretched out a nearly two-minute lead by mile 50. The car's large fuel tank eliminated pit stop time, as did choosing to drive over rock obstacles many other competitors chose to overcome with the aid of on-board winches.
Other class winners included Casey Currie in a Polaris (4900 Pro Stock Turbo UTV), motocross legend Jeremy McGrath in a Kawasaki (4900 Pro Stock NA UTV), Cody Miller's Can-Am in 4900 Pro Mod UTV, the Can-Am of Jonathan Nelson (4900 Sportsman Stock UTV) and young Cameron Sorensen in a Speed UTV taking the 4900 Futures Youth 1000 UTV division.

Ryan Lochte Could Be Forced Out Of His Florida Home Amid His Divorce From Estranged Wife
The divorce proceedings for Ryan Lochte and his estranged wife, Kayla Reid, have taken a dark turn since the initial news of their separation became public. Now, in a new filing, Reid is demanding sole use of one of their Florida homes, which the Olympic swimmer has pushed back on. In the legal documents, Reid also requested alimony, child support, and primary custody of their three children: Caiden, Liv, and Georgia. According to a report from Us Weekly, Reid, who filed for divorce from the Olympic Gold Medalist in March 2025, recently asked the court to grant her exclusive use of their home in Terrace, Florida. The report explains that Reid needs "the exclusive use of this home and the contents thereof, both now and in the future, for herself and the minor children." As of now, Lochte is reportedly residing at another home worth nearly $450,000, and has been doing so since March of this year. Reid's requests in the filing didn't stop there, though. Us Weekly also reports that the former Playboy Playmate claims Lochte took specific joint assets and income during their marriage and purchased other assets, some of which he put in his name. '[Those] assets are presently being held by [Ryan] in trust for and for all the benefit of [Kayla], and the court should award to [Kayla] her full interest in said assets,' her filing read. Additionally, Reid asked the court for a portion of the money from Lochte's businesses, including Lochte Enterprises LLC and Legendaryswimming LLC, claiming she had contributed significant time and effort to help improve these companies. '[Kayla] makes a claim for equitable distribution of the corporate defendant because she has been of great assistance of [Ryan], only in the marital business but also in terms of providing a home environment which supported [Ryan's] needs in every respect," the filing read. Per Us Weekly, Reid stated that the "marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken" in her divorce filing. The Florida-based real estate agent also stated that she was the primary caretaker of their three children before requesting the court grant her "sole parental responsibility." The 33-year-old also said that she's unable to support their children without Lochte's help and requested that the court award her child support and alimony, adding that she needs 'rehabilitative alimony to assist her financially while acquiring sufficient education, retraining, developing skill and/or improving her employment and income.' Reid's petition also requests that Lochte pay her attorney's fees. In his response, Lochte acknowledged that they own a Florida home together; however, he did not support her request to be granted exclusive use of the estate. He also denied the mother of three's claims about her participation in one of his businesses. The Olympian filed a counter-petition to Reid's divorce filing, too, stating in his documents that their official date of separation was April 2025. Lochte, 40, also requested that the court establish a parenting plan, determine child support, and divide their shared assets. According to a previous report from The Blast, Reid opened up about filing for divorce from Lochte in an Instagram post, where she described the decision to end her marriage as one of the most challenging she's ever had to make. "Earlier this year, I made the hard decision to end my marriage after deep prayer and reflection," Reid wrote online. "I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing, and challenging seasons of my life. I've been hesitant to share until I could do so from a place of healing — not from fresh, open wounds." She continued, "Sometimes we face trials we didn't choose or see coming. And in those moments, we're forced to make the hardest decisions to protect our peace, our children, and our future. I've come to the understanding that staying isn't always the most loving decision someone can make. For me, leaving was an act of love — for those around me and for myself." Lochte also addressed the news in a separate post, where he said divorcing was the "right step toward peace and well-being for us both." "I remain committed to healing, growth, and co-parenting with care and respect as we move forward separately," he finished.

Chicago Bears CEO Kevin Warren pays nearly $2.3M for Lake Forest mansion
In a move sure to lend further credence to the view that the Chicago Bears will build a new stadium in Arlington Heights, Kevin Warren, the team's president and CEO, in May paid $2.25 million for a five-bedroom, 8,725-square-foot shingle-style mansion in Lake Forest. Warren, 61, became the Bears' president and CEO in January 2023 after serving for more than three years as the commissioner of the Rosemont-based Big Ten conference. During his time overseeing the Big Ten, Warren first rented a 21st-floor condo in a building on Lake Shore Drive in Streeterville, and then in 2023, he and his wife, Greta, paid $1.75 million for a three-bedroom, 2,547-square-foot condominium on the 13th floor of the same high-rise. Since June 2021, the Bears have been known to be considering locations for a new stadium, including building a new arena in Arlington Heights on the 326-acre site of the former Arlington Park racetrack — land that the team purchased in 2023. Warren soon emerged as an enthusiastic proponent of the idea of a new stadium on Chicago's lakefront. In April, Warren told reporters that the team had shifted from solely pursuing building a new stadium downtown to considering both downtown and Arlington Heights. 'The focus now is both downtown and Arlington Heights,' Warren said in April. 'One thing I have said before is that these are not linear processes or projects. They take time.' Then, in May, the Tribune broke the news that the team's focus had moved once again, this time to Arlington Heights exclusively. Warren's decision to buy a suburban home is sure to spark speculation that the team now is near-certain to build in Arlington Heights, although Warren's new house also is close to the Bears' Halas Hall headquarters and training complex in Lake Forest. The house Warren purchased has a wraparound deck, a new cedar shake roof, a great room with a 19-foot alder wood ceiling and a Lannon stone fireplace, and a kitchen with high-end appliances, a center island and a breakfast bar. Other features include a private office with a fireplace and and a first-floor primary bedroom suite with a bathroom that has dual vanities and heated stone floors. Downstairs, the lower level has a family room opening to a stone patio, a guest bedroom suite and an exercise room. With Warren now having purchased a place in the northern suburbs, he joins several of his colleagues, including Bears general manager Ryan Poles, who paid $2.077 million in 2023 for a 5,200-square-foot house in Lincolnshire. Recently hired head coach Ben Johnson is not known to have bought a house here yet. The sellers lost money on the Lake Forest mansion. They paid $2.39 million for it in 2015, and they first listed it in 2023 for $2.495 million. They cut their asking price in April 2024 to $2.4 million, and they signed a deal in April with Warren, who closed on the purchase in May through an opaque land trust that masks his identity. The mansion had a $35,839 property tax bill in the 2024 tax year. It also has $295-a-month homeowners association dues. Real estate agent Annie Royster Lenzke, who represented Warren in his purchase, did not respond to a request for comment. Her colleague Dawn McKenna also did not respond to a request for comment.
