Calling hours for Maureen Neal, wife of Congressman Richard Neal
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Family and friends are mourning the passing of Maureen P. Neal, the wife of U.S. Representative Richard E. Neal. She was 74 years old.
Mrs. Neal passed away on March 19 at Baystate Medical Center, with her family by her side. She leaves her husband, and four children, Rory, Brendan, Maura Fitzpatrick, and Sean, as well as ten grandchildren, two sisters, and two brothers.
She was born and raised in Holyoke, graduating from Holyoke High School and the University of Massachusetts. She first worked in the Hampden County District Attorney's office and then became a teacher at St. Joseph's Grammar School and Our Lady of Hope Grammar School. Later in her professional career, she worked for the State Auditor's office and the Springfield Parks Department.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels located on 7 Chapin Terrace in Springfield. Drivers in the area of the funeral home may experience traffic delays between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on the following streets:
Jefferson Street
Calhoun Street
Chestnut Street
Chapin Terrace
Marvin Street
Pratt Street
The funeral is scheduled for Friday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield and burial immediately following at Saint Michael's Cemetery on 1601 State Street in Springfield. Traffic may be disrupted in and around Sacred Heart Church on Chestnut Street, Stafford Street, Congress Street and Everett Street.
Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104, or to the Sisters of Saint Joseph, 577 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Dozens of students graduate Central High School in Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The class of 2025 at Central High School walked down the aisle Thursday at Symphony Hall. Mass. education secretary addresses graduation policy changes in Holyoke Friends and family members gathered to celebrate their new beginnings. 'I'm proud that I was able to push myself this far. My parents don't speak much English, and they brought my siblings and I here when we were younger. They always encouraged us to be proud of ourselves', says Roda Nshim Irimana, graduate of Central High School. Currently, the incoming freshman college class has picked several majors, including Nursing and Computer Science. Many students are grateful for their time at Central and are looking forward to their next chapter, whether it be at college or trade school. Springfield to honor Malcom X's legacy and impact with new mural
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A new mural will be unveiled in the city of Springfield this weekend. Springfield Pride Parade Committee expands Pride festivities to support the youth The mural will honor the late Malcolm X, and will be unveiled at the mosque that the civil rights leader himself opened on Oak Street in the year 1958. This mural is part of an ongoing effort from city organizers to honor and celebrate the impact that black leaders have had in their community. The event will begin on Saturday, June 7th, at noon and will be hosted by Representative Bud Williams and Muralist Richard Johnson.
