Opposition alliance unveils 15-point agenda
The head of the Movement Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser, Allama Nasir Abbas, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and other opposition leaders addressed the ceremony regarding the national agenda of the movement.
Khokhar, while presenting the national agenda, stated that the desire was to highlight the problems facing the opposition alliance in Pakistan, adding there was nothing in this agenda that is against the law. Only if the sanctity of the people and the state is not violated in any way, then the state will be able to move forward, he added.
He presented the points which included that the alliance rejects the rigging of the 2024 elections. 'We demand that elections be held again,' said Khokar, adding that freedom of expression was taken away by the amendment to the PECA Act, the independence of the judiciary was taken away through the 26th Constitutional Amendment. The responsibilities of the Pakistan Armed Forces should be carried out within their jurisdiction. The government writ and the deteriorating law and order situation in the country are viewed with concern. The alliance demands that the National Action Plan be implemented strictly. It has become difficult for the middle class to live, as well as, for business people to do business.
He further said that this alliance demand that water resources be distributed legally. The canals issue should be resolved by the Council of Common Interests. The rights of the provinces cannot be taken away. Missing persons should be brought before the judiciary in accordance with the law. Armed terrorist organisations can be confronted without taking away the rights of citizens. All restrictions imposed on the internet should be lifted. This alliance supports holding free local elections. All political prisoners, including the founder of PTI, should be released.
Central leader of PTI and former Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser said that the alliance of opposition parties has put the national agenda before the nation and is the same agenda on which they held the national conference.
He said that on the 7th, they are going to Punjab, and want to keep the national agenda. We will also discuss the issues of Punjab during this time, said Qaiser, adding that they will also hold such conferences in Balochistan, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said that they are very concerned about the situation in Pakistan's units. The Balochistan government currently does not practically represent the people, he added.
Mahmood Khan Achakzai said that they fully support this national agenda and this is the time to unite the country. He also proposed all political parties should form a national government together and save Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: The Senate erupted into political crossfire on Friday as opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senators launched a blistering assault on the government's civil honours list, slamming it for decorating sitting ministers and loyal political allies under the guise of national recognition. The session, chaired by Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani, opened with the announcement of a select group of senators receiving some of the country's highest civilian awards on August 14. Another PTI senator Humayun Mohmand added with biting sarcasm: 'The real war strategist – Nawaz Sharif – was snubbed, despite masterminding our recent military doctrine with India.' As tensions rose, Senator Faisal Javed Khan of PTI lamented the absence of PTI's 'digital foot soldiers' – the party's online activists, whom he claimed 'fought the Battle of Truth by staying up all night exposing Indian propaganda.' Their exclusion, he argued, was not just political bias but 'a devaluation of the civil honours system itself.' In defence, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar insisted the awards recognised civilians and security personnel affected by recent unrest and urged critics to 'show magnanimity,' noting that diplomatic achievements had also been taken into account. The debate soon shifted to Independence Day government advertisements, with Senator Javed accusing the administration of erasing the image of Muhammad Ali Jinnah from the campaign, replaced instead by what he called a 'parade of the ruling dynasty.' He described this omission as 'not just shameful, but a betrayal of our history.' Tarar, visibly unsettled, said he was 'personally hurt' by the exclusion and promised a formal inquiry. 'Different institutions publish their own materials,' he said, 'but Quaid-e-Azam is our undisputed leader. We all follow him.' Despite the rancour, the Senate managed to pass a resolution marking Independence Day as the culmination of 'centuries of political struggle,' paying tribute to Pakistan's founders, constitutional architects, and armed forces. The resolution, moved by Law Minister Tarar, reaffirmed a commitment to protecting Pakistan's sovereignty, preserving democratic ethics, and building a prosperous future for coming generations. It pledged to pursue sustainable development, economic empowerment, and national unity. Honouring Jinnah's leadership, the resolution paid homage to all whose sacrifices secured Pakistan's independence. It acknowledged the armed forces and security institutions for their valor, paying tribute to martyrs and veterans while pledging to uphold their legacy. Special mention was made of parliamentarians who framed the constitution and advanced democratic reforms, with a reaffirmed commitment to parliamentary democracy, constitutional supremacy, and the rule of law. F-Class shooter Mohsin Nawaz honoured with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's F-Class long-range shooting ace, Mohsin Nawaz, has been conferred the prestigious Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sport and a series of remarkable international achievements. President Asif Ali Zardari announced the honor, which will be officially presented at the Pakistan Day investiture ceremony on March 23, 2026, at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. Nawaz, honored in the sports category, joins other distinguished athletes whose accomplishments have elevated Pakistan's profile globally. Hailing from Faisalabad and also a seasoned sports psychologist, Nawaz has been instrumental in putting Pakistan on the world map of competitive shooting. His recent feats include winning silver in the Day One Aggregate and bronze in the 1000-yard event at the 2024 European Long Range Shooting Championship, alongside a top 15 overall ranking. He also secured silver in the 300 yards category at the 2024 F Class Imperial Championship, placing in the top eight overall. These victories brought his international medal tally to 10—making him the first Pakistani civilian to medal in these European categories. Nawaz's breakthrough came in 2023 when he won silver at the European Long Range Shooting Championship, equaling the European record at 800 yards. Earlier, he dominated the 2022 Western Bisley Long Range Championship with three gold and two silver medals, and earned podium finishes at major events in the USA, South Africa, and Europe since 2016. In a testament to his stature, Nawaz holds lifetime memberships with both the National Rifle Association (NRA) UK and USA and is Pakistan's first holder of NRA USA mid and long-range classifications. He also serves as brand ambassador for KAHLES Sports Optics and Peregrine Bullets, and is actively working to develop Pakistan's shooting infrastructure, mentor emerging talent, and advocate for policy reforms in the sport. Opposition 'bias claim' in civil awards sparks Senate uproar
The upper house of the parliament witnessed uproar on Friday as opposition lawmakers accused the government of politicising this year's civil awards by allegedly favouring ministers and treasury benches, while ignoring deserving figures. The Senate session, chaired by Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, turned heated after he announced that several cabinet members and senators had been conferred national honours on August 14. Opposition members demanded disclosure of the criteria used for selection. Among the awardees were Ishaq Dar, Mohsin Naqvi, Musadik Malik, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Faisal Sabzwari, Senator Sherry Rehman, Senator Bushra Anjum, Ahsan Iqbal and Ahad Cheema. Irfan Siddiqui and Sarmad Ali are to receive their awards on March 23 next year. Senator Falak Naz Chitrali questioned, "What war did Atta Tarar fight?" while Senator Humayun Mohmand sarcastically remarked that "the designer of the war, Nawaz Sharif, has not been awarded." PTI's Senator Faisal Javed said party social media activists had countered Indian propaganda "day and night" but were ignored, accusing the government of "destroying the sanctity" of the honours. Defending the awards, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said martyrs and heroes of the Marka-e-Haq had been recognised, including those who lost their homes. Separately, Senator Kamran Murtaza voiced concern over the suspension of mobile internet across 36 districts of Balochistan and alleged closure of rail, road and air links, warning of damage to Pakistan's image. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry clarified that only mobile internet services had been suspended from August 6 to 31 due to "credible security threats" under the Pakistan Telecommunication (Reorganisation) Act, 1996. He said telephone lines, airline operations, and road and rail links remained functional. "These measures are taken in specific areas facing threats, not across unrelated regions," he said, citing past terror attacks in the province, including on the Jaffar Express and the Army Public School in Khuzdar. On concerns over prepaid internet packages, Dr Chaudhry pledged to take up the matter with the concerned ministry, assuring that unused credit during the suspension period would be carried forward to the next month. The session was adjourned till Monday evening.
