Pacer Mohammed Siraj arrives in Mumbai
Mumbai, Aug 6 (PTI) India pacer Mohammed Siraj on Wednesday landed in Mumbai from London after playing a stellar role in his team's 2-2 draw in the just-concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England.
Siraj was the leading wicket-taker in the five-match series with 23 scalps.
The 31-year-old arrived in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport terminal dressed in dapper black casuals, as a small group of fans gave him a joyous welcome.
There were requests for selfies and autographs but Siraj quickly trooped into a car and left the airport, possibly to the domestic terminal to catch the connecting flight to Hyderabad, his home town. PTI UNG ATK ATK

Explaining his choice, he said: "I just coloured my beard two days ago. You know it's time when you are colouring your beard every four days."Neither Kohli nor Rohit has played competitive cricket since the IPL 2025 season. With India not scheduled to play ODI cricket until the end of the year in Australia and South Africa, their extended absence has added to speculation about their international retired with 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, placing him fourth on India's all-time list behind Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar. Sunil Gavaskar questions Sachin Tendulkar, James Anderson absence during Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy presentation
Among the talking points going into what ended up being an epic five-Test series between India and England was the name of the trophy itself. The Pataudi Trophy had been retired, leading to criticism from multiple quarters, and was replaced by the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, named after England fast bowling great James Anderson and India batting legend Sachin Tendulkar. Strangely, though, both were nowhere to be seen during the presentation ceremony. Sunil Gavaskar questioned this in his column for Sportstar. 'This was the first-ever series named after Sachin Tendulkar and Jimmy Anderson, two of cricket's greatest legends. One would have expected both to be present to give the trophy to the two captains, especially since the series ended in a draw,' he said. Anderson continues to play domestic cricket and was in action in England at the time that the series was taking place. Tendulkar, meanwhile, was there for the unveiling of the trophy and Gavaskar has said that the former India captain was in England to the best of his knowledge. Gavaskar drew parallels to what happened earlier in the year in Australia, where he was not included in the presentation ceremony and it was just Allan Border at the end of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The reasoning given at the time was that this was because it was Australia that had won the series. 'To the best of one's knowledge, both were in England at the time. So, were they simply not invited? Or was this similar to what happened in Australia earlier this year, when only Allan Border was asked to present the Border-Gavaskar Trophy because Australia had won the series? Since this England series was drawn, perhaps neither was asked to attend the presentation,' he said. Gavaskar also slammed the practice of giving the newly instated Pataudi medal to the winning captain of the series instead of the player of the series. India captain Shubman Gill and England skipper Ben Stokes were both given a medal each with the series drawn 2-2. 'Mostly around the world, administrators are brought in to ensure profits and are quite good at it, but they may not have much knowledge about the history of the sport they are presiding over. So, these little gestures are not in their scheme of things. Nobody from the Pataudi family was there either, for the Pataudi medal, which was to be presented to the winning team's captain. 'The drawn series showed how silly this idea was of trying to make up to the Pataudis by retiring the trophy named after them. Every time the series is drawn, the medal can't be presented, can it? Wouldn't it be better, therefore, to have the medal for the Man of the Series than give it to the winning team's captain? And what if the captain himself has had an ordinary series and had little impact on the result?' said Gavaskar.

But the Indian backline, led by Cindy Colney and Thoibisana Chanu in central defence, who hadn't conceded any goal in the qualifiers, was in no mood to let go of that perfect record. With every clearance and every interception, the belief grew stronger. And on rare occasions when Myanmar breached them, standing in their way and the goal was Indian custodian Monalisha Devi. The hosts came mightily close to equalising in the 80th minute when a deflected ball would've trickled past the goal line if not for Monalisha's rapid reactions. The 19-year-old picked up a unique distinction of being the only player who was part of both qualifying squads — senior and noted, 'Honestly, the second half wasn't the best in terms of the quality of our play. But to keep a clean sheet for the third time, and to work as hard as we did as a team, shows the fantastic morale these players have."After the on-pitch celebrations, the Swedish coach gave a heartfelt speech addressed to the players and the staff.'This is a very emotional moment for me because I saw how hard you were worked out there. But despite the challenges, the effort you put into the game was immense. We fought so hard, defending with every part of our bodies. We truly showed that we deserve to be in this Asian Cup, and that is exactly why we are here," Alexandersson added. 'In the first game, we couldn't score goals, but we improved on that. And today, that improvement has been enough. Looking back at all three matches, I believe we totally deserve to qualify for the Asian Cup." 'Of course, there are still things we can improve on, but now we have time before the tournament to sharpen our play style and make ourselves even better.
