Coleman defends Richardson after reported arrest

Reuters2 days ago
Aug 4 (Reuters) - Christian Coleman defended fellow sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson after she was reportedly arrested for pushing Coleman, saying on Sunday that she was a "great person".
Reigning 100 metres world champion Richardson was arrested for domestic violence at a Seattle airport ahead of the U.S. Track & Field Championships, USA TODAY Sports reported on Friday.
According to a police report obtained by USA TODAY Sports, the 25-year-old, who won Olympic silver in the 100 at the Paris Games, allegedly pushed Coleman, who then fell into a nearby column after an argument.
Richardson was detained on the evening of July 27 and released the following day, USA TODAY Sports reported.
"For me personally, I feel like it was a sucky situation all round. I don't feel like she should have been arrested. I mean people have discussions and emotions and stuff like that," 2019 world 100m champion Coleman told reporters at the Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
"She has things that she needs to work on for herself, of course. So do I, so do you, so does everybody. But I'm the type of guy who's in the business of extending grace, and mercy and love...
"She's a human being and a great person. To me she's the best female athlete in the world. I see it every day."
Port of Seattle Police Department and Richardson's agent did not respond to Reuters requests for comment.
Richardson withdrew from the 100 semi-finals in Eugene, Oregon on Friday after participating in Thursday's heats, before failing to qualify for the 200m final on Sunday.
She is guaranteed a spot in the 100 at the world championships in Tokyo next month due to her win at Budapest in 2023.

Is Caitlin Clark playing for the Indiana Fever tonight? WNBA superstar's injury latest ahead of LA Sparks clash

Caitlin Clark has had an injury-riddled sophomore season in the WNBA, and she's set to miss another game on Tuesday for the Fever. The reigning Rookie of the Year has been sidelined by injuries to both of her groins as well as a left quad issue, and last played on July 15 against the Sun. In that game, Clark injured her right groin in the final moments of her team's 85-77 win over Connecticut - leaving her holding back tears. The injury, which occurred with just 39.1 seconds left in the contest, unfortunately ruled her out of the All-Star Game, which she was set to captain at the Fever's home Gainbridge Fieldhouse. She has missed seven consecutive games heading into the Fever's clash with the Sparks on Tuesday night. With the Fever seeking their sixth win in a row, here's what is known about her availability. Is Caitlin Clark playing against the Sparks? While Fever coach Stephanie White has said that the guard's recovery is 'going well,' she has been ruled out yet again ahead of the game. With Clark struggling to stay healthy this season, the Fever are seemingly taking a cautious approach and have not provided a timeline for when she'll be back. 'I know she wants to be out here on the floor, and we want her out on the floor, but making sure she's ready is the most important thing,' White said over the weekend. 'I still don't know how far we are. We're going to take it one step at a time and one day at a time and go from there.' Tuesday's game will tip off at 10pm ET from LA. How many games has Clark missed this season? While Clark was extremely durable in her rookie season and during her college career at Iowa, Tuesday's absence will mark the 17th regular season game she's missed this year. Clark's injury troubles began when she missed the Fever's preseason opener due to left quad tightness. She then suited up in the first four games of the season before being sidelined by a left quad sprain, which she suffered on May 24 against the Liberty. After missing five games with that ailment, she suffered a left groin injury on June 24 - just five games into her return - and missed another four games. She returned to the court on July 9 before suffering her latest injury against Connecticut. How has Clark performed this season? Perhaps unsurprisingly, Clark has played below her best this season as she's battled health issues. Her points (16.5 per contest), rebounds (5.7), field goal percentage (36.7) and three-point percentage (27.9) are all down from her rookie season. In the four games prior to her right groin injury (after returning from a left groin issue), she was particularly ineffective by her own standards, scoring just 12.5 points per contest to go along with 8.7 assists per night. She averaged just 25.9 minutes in those contests as the Fever staff tried to ease her back. What is the Fever's record without Clark? The Fever have had to adjust to life without Clark for long stretches this season - and they've actually fared pretty well without her. In 16 games this season with Clark sidelined, Indiana has gone 9-7 with the help of Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston. The Fever have gone 8-5 in games which Clark has played this year. Indiana struggled earlier in the season to get results without Clark, losing four of six such games, but have won five consecutive games heading into Tuesday night.

Tesla, Elon Musk sued by shareholders over Robotaxi claims

Aug 5 (Reuters) - Elon Musk and Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab were sued by shareholders who accused them of securities fraud for concealing the significant risk that the company's self-driving vehicles, including the Robotaxi, were dangerous. The proposed class action was filed on Monday night, following Tesla's first public test of its robotaxis in late June in the company's Austin, Texas, hometown. That test showed the vehicles speeding, braking suddenly, driving over a curb, entering the wrong lane, and dropping off passengers in the middle of multilane roads. Tesla's share price fell 6.1% over two trading days after the test began, wiping out about $68 billion of market value. Musk and his electric vehicle maker were accused of repeatedly overstating the effectiveness of and prospects for their autonomous driving technology, inflating Tesla's financial prospects and stock price. Shareholders said this included Musk's assurance on an April 22 conference call that Tesla was "laser-focused on bringing robotaxi to Austin in June," and Tesla's claim the same day that its approach to autonomous driving would deliver "scalable and safe deployment across diverse geographies and use cases." Tesla did not immediately respond on Tuesday to requests for comment. Chief Financial Officer Viabhav Taneja and his predecessor Zachary Kirkhorn are also defendants. Expanding robotaxis is crucial for Tesla as the company faces falling demand for its aging electric vehicles and a backlash over Musk's politics. Musk, the world's richest person, wants to offer the service to half the U.S. population by year end, but must convince regulators and assure the public his technology is safe. Monday's lawsuit in Austin federal court is led by Tesla shareholder Denise Morand, and seeks damages for shareholders between April 19, 2023 and June 22, 2025. A Florida jury on August 1 found Tesla 33% responsible for a 2019 crash involving its self-driving software, which killed a 22-year-old woman and injured her boyfriend, and ordered it to pay about $243 million in damages to victims. Tesla blamed the driver and plans to appeal. The case is Morand v Tesla Inc et al, U.S. District Court, Western District of Texas, No. 25-01213.
