The Athletic projects where Auburn's Ike Irish will land in 2025 MLB draft
The Athletic projects where Auburn's Ike Irish will land in 2025 MLB draft Irish's draft stock continues to trend upward. The draft stock of Auburn iron man Ike Irish continues to rise as The Athletic has given him his highest projection yet. Keith Law of The Athletic placed Irish in the top 10 of his latest MLB mock draft, released Thursday, pairing him with the Cincinnati Reds with the No. 9 overall pick. Irish is primarily a catcher, but he played several other positions including first base, left field, and right field. Many clubs see Irish as just a catcher, but Law feels that franchises are coming around to the idea of drafting Irish as a slugging outfielder. Irish is one of two names who've really seemed to move up over the last month or so, as teams have become more comfortable with the idea of just taking Irish — who has only caught a couple of games since he missed two weeks in March with a fractured scapula — as an outfielder and letting him go rake. I would bet more on the Reds going with a college player than a high school one, and could see them on Kyson Witherspoon, Wehiwa Aloy or maybe Tyler Bremner. Irish enjoyed his best season in an Auburn uniform this season by hitting .364 with 19 home runs, 58 RBI, and 11 stolen bases. He slugged .710 and hit .317 when putting balls in play. In 214 at bats, Irish struck out 14.3% of the time and walked 12.8% of the time, and logged 34 extra-base hits. Cincinnati is the second National League Central club tied to Irish via mock draft. Earlier this week, USA TODAY Sports paired Irish with the Milwaukee Brewers at No. 20 overall. Riley Gaines, husband Louis Barker announce pregnancy: ‘God is SO good all the time'
Twelve-time NCAA All-American swimmer Riley Gaines and husband Louis Barker are expecting their first child together. Gaines confirmed the news to Fox News Digital Saturday, adding the couple will welcome a baby girl in September. 'Surprise! we're 26 weeks pregnant,' she said in a post on Instagram. 'God is SO good all the time.' The host of OutKick's 'Gaines for Girls' podcast married Barker in 2022, and they celebrated their three-year wedding anniversary May 22. Gaines has been a staunch advocate for female athletes during the debate about transgender athletes participating in girls and women's sports. She most recently sparred with seven-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles over a Minnesota softball team that won a state championship behind the performance of a trans player. In response to Gaines' criticism of a social media post praising the championship team, Biles posted a message calling Gaines 'truly sick' for her stance on trans athletes. She even launched a personal attack on Gaines' physical appearance. 'You're truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser,' Biles said, referencing Gaines competing against former UPenn swimmer Lia Thomas at the 2022 NCAA championships. 4 Riley Gaines and husband Louis Barker are expecting their first child together. @rileygbarker / Instagram 4 The couple celebrated their three-year wedding anniversary on May 22. @rileygbarker / Instagram 'You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!' The post went viral on social media, with Biles adding in another post, 'bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male.' Gaines addressed the body-shaming remark during a speech at Turning Point USA's Young Women's Leadership Summit in Texas on Saturday, where she first announced her pregnancy. 4 The couple attended CMA Fest in Nashville last week. @rileygbarker / Instagram 4 Gaines joined President Trump onstage during the 2022 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas. Yuki Iwamura for NYPost 'How many men do you know that have this,' Gaines said as she showed her bump and shared sonograms on stage. Barker also joined Gaines on stage to speak about the exciting news of the new edition to their family. 'The next generation that our little girl is going to be a part of, that is who you all are fighting for and who Turning Point is fighting for. And so from a father-to-be, thank you, keep fighting… and thank you,' he said. Biles later issued an apology to Gaines and said she was 'not advocating for policies that compromise fairness in women's sports.' Gaines responded by accepting the apology and inviting the Olympian to join the effort 'to support fair sports and a future for female athletes.'

P.J. Duke set to be youngest U.S. men's freestyle wrestler at world championships in 50 years
P.J. Duke is set to become the youngest U.S. male freestyle wrestler to compete at a senior world championships in more than 50 years. Duke, an 18-year-old who recently completed a 152-1 high school career, rallied past Yianni Diakomihalis, a four-time NCAA champion and 2022 World silver medalist, in USA Wrestling's Final X to earn the 70kg spot at September's worlds in Croatia. Duke lost the first match by mercy rule (10-0 at the 3:26 mark of the scheduled six minutes) in the best-of-three championship series. He won the next two matches, 17-10 and finally with a pin in the decider at the 4:07 mark. He celebrated with a backflip at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. 'That first match, didn't wrestle my best,' Duke said. 'It's a feel match. Didn't doubt myself once.' Duke said he saw an interview where Diakomihalis, who is eight years older, said he would 'try to mangle' Duke. 'I took that personal,' Duke said. 'I'm not going to let that slide. He's a good mentor to me, but I work my butt too hard to be mangled.' Duke has his last day of high school on Monday in Slate Hill, New York, then matriculates at NCAA champion Penn State on June 28 and turns 19 on July 7. He was named the national prep wrestler of the year by WIN Magazine. He would be the youngest U.S. male freestyle wrestler to compete at senior worlds since 1974, when Billy Rosado did so at age 18. John Bowlsby had also finished high school that year and wrestled at worlds. Current rules stipulate that wrestlers have to turn at least 18 in the year of the senior worlds to be eligible to compete. 'I'm sure people will be saying, 'He's only 18. He's too young for senior level,'' Duke said. 'That's what they said here. It didn't go too well for them.' PJ DUKE DOES IT!!! High Schooler PJ Duke just PINNED World Silver medalist Yianni Diakomihalis to make team USA! Nick Zaccardi,
