ITV Coronation Street stars' real-life age gap leaves fans stunned
Coronation Street fans have been left stunned by the real-life age difference between Claire Sweeney and Alan Halsall, who portray mother-son duo Cassie and Tyrone.
Alan first appeared on our screens as Tyrone in the iconic ITV soap back in 1998. Since then, he's become a main character of the show, featuring in numerous significant storylines.
From his romantic links and subsequent marriage to Fiz Brown (Jennie McAlpine) to enduring domestic abuse from his fiancée Kirsty Soames (Natalie Gumede), Tyrone's stint in Weatherfield has been anything but uneventful.
Cassie on the other hand made her Weatherfield debut in 2023 as Tyrone's estranged mother and a recovering drug addict. It didn't take long for her to find herself caught up in some drama.
Earlier this year, she was responsible for poisoning Ken Barlow (William Roache) who she was caring for, in a shocking attempt to extend her presence in his life, as reported by the Mirror.
In a dramatic turn of events, Ken was rushed to hospital following a heart attack and thankfully he survived. The truth about Cassie's role in Ken's health scare was eventually unveiled, leaving the community, including Tyrone, horrified.
Despite everything, Ken forgave her and she has since moved back in with Tyrone. Adding to the intrigue, Cassie has recently rekindled her romance with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and the pair gone public with their relationship.
However, away from the cameras, fans have been intrigued by the age difference between actors Claire and Alan.
Claire is 54 and Alan is 42, which means there's a 12 year age gap between the two stars. However, their on-screen characters, Cassie and Tyrone, have a larger age difference of nearly 16 years.
"Just found out that Claire Sweeney and Corrie son Alan have an 12-year age-gap wth," one person expressed surprise on a Corrie Facebook fan page.
Another added: "Another unrealistic age gap." A third was taken aback, commenting on the social media platform: "Oh wow I didn't realise that." Yet another wrote: "I've said from the start she doesn't look old enough to be Tyrone's mum."

And revealing why he chose to test himself on the endurance show, the fitness fanatic explained it was the mental test he desired. "'I had a lot of stuff going on before I went on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins," he said. "And I've got to be honest but credit to the show, I actually think it had the most positive impact on my mental health." Adam began dating sports presenter Laura in October 2023. The following year they announced they were expecting their first child and in April 2025 they welcomed their son Leo. The pair have both kept their followers up to date with their family life and at the turn of the year, Adam posted a candid message on his social media. At the time, he wrote: "2024, the hardest year of my life." He went on: "I've seen lot of amazing 2024 posts over the last few days... but if you're struggling right now, remember that Instagram is a highlights reel, and if you're struggling you aren't alone. "Struggled with my mental health more than ever. Lost something important. Struggled with injuries. Suffered with addiction to painkillers and sleeping pills and justified it as 'it doesn't affect fitness' or because it wasn't booze. "Got diagnosed with depression. Prescribed anti-depressants. Lost family. Drifted from certain friends. Tried to reach out to people and failed. Felt lost." But he admitted he also had a lot to be positive about, including his son and relationship. At the time, Laura issued a gushing response. In the comments section, replying: "Proud of you. You're going to be the most amazing dad x."

Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) reaches his lowest ebb in upcoming Coronation Street episodes as his previous mistakes catch up with him – and he ends up with a nasty injury. Added to these woes, in an attempt to kick back from the world of business and have some fun, Aadi threw a party – but that went horribly wrong, too. Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) ended up accidentally taking some LSD and wandered off into the night, being tortured by terrifying hallucinations of Joel Deering (Calum Lill), the man who previously abused her. She ended up falling and badly injuring herself. Aadi and Lauren have started a sweet relationship together since then, but this is bound to be less sweet when she finds out the person who spiked her at the party was Aadi – even though it wasn't deliberate. Luckily on the business front at least, Aadi's about-to-be step-mum Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) came up with a plan to help him out financially by creaming off some of her and Dev's wedding fund. In upcoming episodes the wedding day arrives, but as the ceremony is about to begin, Bernie's health takes a turn and she collapses, struggling to breathe. As she's rushed off to hospital and Dev summons everyone to her side, it's clear that this is serious. For Aadi, his world has come crashing down. Fearing that he's partly to blame for Bernie's collapse he knows that without her in his corner it's only a matter of time before Dev finds out that he made a mess of the business.
