Australia attempts record-breaking skydive in a bid to have it included in the Brisbane 2032 Olympics
Overall, 26,718 skydives were recorded across 24 countries, stretching from Australia and Angola to Greece and Guatemala – but it wasn't quite enough to top last year's world record of 30,351. Still, with the sport's popularity growing, Australia's peak skydiving body is rallying to get skydiving included in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
Australian Parachute Federation CEO, Stephen Porter, said, 'Australia performs incredibly well on the global stage, and what better way to showcase the gorgeous scenery of Queensland than with skydiving events held throughout the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.'
Yep, jumping out of a plane is more than just a bucket-list experience; it's a legit professional sport. World Championships are currently held across a range of categories, including formation skydiving, freestyle, speed skydiving, wingsuit flying and canopy piloting.
Why isn't skydiving an Olympic sport?
Skydiving has yet to be included as an Olympic sport for a few key reasons: it's difficult to spectate, it's not easily accessible to the public, it's expensive and it's inherently dangerous. That said, progress is in the air – canopy piloting was featured at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, an event supported by the International Olympic Committee, signalling a potential step towards Olympic recognition.
And skydiving still had its starring moment at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games Closing Ceremony, with Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise plummeting into Hollywood to hand over the flag for the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Games.

Sharron Davies among three nominated to become Conservative peers
Kemi Badenoch is to appoint the Olympic medal-winning swimmer and gender-critical campaigner Sharron Davies as a Conservative peer. The Conservative leader has nominated Davies, alongside the columnist Simon Heffer and the Tory treasurer Graham Edwards, for the next round of House of Lords appointments that are due to be announced in the autumn. She will become the latest former athlete to enter the upper house, joining the former 1,500 metres champion Lord Coe and the Paralympian Baroness Grey-Thompson. Davies has become an outspoken campaigner for women's rights in sport, warning of the risk of transgender athletes being able to self-identify. Two years ago she warned that 'mediocre male athletes' were 'stealing' medals from women and girls by self-identifying as the opposite gender. Davies got to know Badenoch when the latter was equalities minister and instigated moves to tighten up the law around self-identification. This month she said that she could 'testify personally' to Badenoch being one of the very first ministers to 'push back against woke'. '[She was] always fighting to maintain women's sports,' she said. Davies also backed Badenoch for the Conservative leadership describing her as a 'fresh, brave and intelligent woman who's prepared to tackle issues head-on so many have ignored for too long.' Davies was one of the UK's most successful swimmers in the 1970s and early 1980s, winning two gold medals at the 1978 Commonwealth Games and finishing second in the individual medley at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. She became involved in the question of trans women in sport having lost out on the gold medal to Petra Schneider who, along with other East German athletes, had been put on testosterone to enhance their performances through doping. • Sharron Davies: IOC must take action for victims of sport's biggest heist Alongside Davies, Badenoch has also nominated the right-wing columnist and author Heffer as another Tory peer. He has been supportive of Badenoch despite calls from some on the right to ditch her as leader in favour of Robert Jenrick. Writing this year he said she displayed the kind of 'common-sense conservatism that was similar to that heard 'in the rhetoric of Reform politicians'. 'It is precisely the sort of approach that, if maintained over the next few years, will help persuade people that the Conservative Party again harbours conservative beliefs,' he wrote. He added: 'If the Conservative Party were to panic and try to ditch Mrs Badenoch, who is still learning the job and making all the right noises, the small portion of the British public that still takes the party seriously would quickly cease to do so.' The third nominee is Edwards, the Conservative Party treasurer, who has helped Badenoch prop up the party's finances after its historic defeat last year. Figures released in June revealed that the Tories raised £3.3 million in the first quarter of the year, above Labour, with £2.3 million, and Nigel Farage's Reform, which raised £1.48 million. Edwards has personally given the party more than half a million pounds since the election. Labour is attempting to rebalance the make up of the House of Lords in its favour after its landslide election win. In December Starmer appointed 30 new peers — while the Tories were given just six new appointments. At present there are 209 Labour peers compared with 285 Conservative members — a figure which is expected to drop if the government successfully abolishes hereditary peers.

Anthony Joshua rival reveals potential location for heavyweight fight
Joshua could take on Tony Yoka in his next fight but the Frenchman is behind Jake Paul in the pecking order Tony Yoka has revealed he could fight Anthony Joshua in Ghana if he beats Jake Paul to the punch and lands a clash with the former heavyweight world champion. Joshua has not fought since her was knocked out by Daniel Dubois at Wembley last September and recently underwent surgery on his elbow. He is expected to return to the ring before the end of the year with YouTuber Paul the frontrunner following talks between the respective teams in New York. But Yoka is also in the frame for a fight with Joshua, with the Brit recently claiming he will take on his fellow Olympic champion. And the Frenchman has now revealed Joshua's team have gone to Ghana to scout out potential venues for the showdown. "His team has just left for Ghana to see what the sports facilities are like," Yoka told L'Equipe. "There is a possibility that the fight will take place in Africa. A lot of people are talking about it, and it could revive boxing in France. If it comes to fruition, it will indeed generate enormous interest." But Joshua's promoter Hearn believes Paul is more likely to land the bout. He told Sky Sports News: "This bizarre world that we live in, I think Jake Paul is absolutely the front-runner to fight Anthony Joshua next. I'm here in New York for a meeting about that fight. There's open dialogue between myself and Nakisa [Bidarian, Paul's manager] and MVP [Most Valuable Promotions]. "The boxing world are saying, 'please AJ, go in and evaporate this young man from the boxing world so we can all get on as normal'. You got Jake Paul fans thinking, bizarrely, they can beat Anthony Joshua, and the most bizarre thing out of everything is that Jake Paul genuinely believes he will beat Anthony Joshua. "I think it's the only reason we're going to see this fight because Jake Paul and his merry men are telling him that AJ's punch resistance is gone, 'this is a great time to fight him'. "I'm telling you, be careful for what you wish for because this is the most dangerous thing. This is like tuning in to watch [magician] David Blaine. "You know when he's in a box and you're wondering whether he's going to get out in time, I've told Nakisa, this ain't David Blaine. This is going in with one of the fiercest punchers of our generation and if you go in there thinking you're going to win, that's even more dangerous. "I know commercially this fight breaks all kinds of records and I don't even know what's going on to know that we're sitting there negotiating this fight, but I truly believe you're going to see it at the beginning of 2026. Gordon Ramsay reveals true feelings towards future son-in-law Adam Peaty in telling interview
Gordon Ramsay has shared his very honest opinion on his daughter Holly's fiancé, Adam Peaty. Olympic swimming star Adam Peaty took on his most gruelling challenge yet with future father-in-law Gordon Ramsay giving his full support. The 30-year-old pushed through a tough triathlon on Sunday evening whilst surrounded by a very famous cheer squad. The Strictly Come Dancing star, who has secured an impressive six Olympic medals, dived into his first-ever triathlon as part of the T100 Triathlon World Tour. At the event, he was surrounded by his biggest supporters with 'Team Ramsay' on hand. His fiancée, Holly Ramsay, was there to cheer him on, along with his young son George, who beamed with pride at his father. The Ramsay family was out in full force – Holly's mum Tana and siblings Megan, Tilly, and Jack all participated in the event alongside him. Scots chef Gordon, 58, had also hoped to take part but was benched by doctors after getting stitches in his cheek. However, he more than made up for it with enthusiastic sideline support. It was a big day with other famous faces such as McFly drummer Harry Judd and former racing driver Billy Monger also among the competitors. Adam completed the triathlon, which consisted of a 2km swim, an 80km cycle, and an 18km run, within 2 hours, 34 minutes, and 37 seconds. Moments after the triathlon ended, George ran up to his dad with a handmade sign that read 'I love you. Go Daddy', and gave him a kiss. Holly was glowing with pride as her future hubby caught his breath. Adam said: "That was the hardest thing I've ever done. I'd 100 per cent do it again." Reflecting on the experience, he later shared on Instagram: "Before this I never raced for more than a few minutes, never swam open water, never raced on a bike or had ever done a 10km run with people of all paces around me. Glad I got all of those ticked off today." Adam and Holly started dating in 2023 and the Olympian proposed last autumn. While the couple initially kept things quiet, it was Gordon who let the wedding plans slip during an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show. He said "It's going to be a Christmas wedding" as he revealed they'd already started making arrangements. The celebrity chef praised Adam, calling him a down-to-earth, driven man and the ideal match for his daughter. Gordon said that Adam had asked for his and Tana's blessing during a family holiday to Cornwall, which he said was an emotional and unforgettable moment. He said: "As a future son-in-law, we couldn't ask for better". The feeling appears to be mutual as Adam has previously spoken about how welcomed he feels by the Ramsay family. Gordon is also going to be in charge of the wedding menu, something which Holly says she has been excited about since day one. She told Closer Magazine: "He's definitely taking charge of the food".
