Suspected drone explosion in Kutch amid India-Pakistan conflict

Ahmedabad: A suspected explosion was reported near the India-Pakistan border in Gujarat's Khavda region early Thursday morning after an unidentified drone allegedly collided with a high-tension power line. Teams from the BSF and the Indian Air Force reached the site and recovered a portion of the suspected drone
The incident took place around 6 am, triggering a loud noise that drew the attention of security forces in the area, a local official, who asked not to be named, said.
Following the blast, teams from the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) arrived at the site. A portion of the suspected drone was recovered and confiscated by air force personnel for investigation.
'An explosion was reported in the area. We alerted teams from the BSF and the IAF who reached the spot and found an object resembling a drone. It has been handed over to the Air Force, which is now investigating the matter,' superintendent of police, Kutch (West), Vikas Sunda said.

The origin of the drone—whether it came from across the international border—remains unconfirmed.
Security forces have intensified surveillance in the region, given Kutch's proximity to the India-Pakistan border and the ongoing tension between the two countries.

The recovery of the drone wreckage comes in the backdrop of Wednesday's Operation Sindoor that, which was launched by the Indian armed forces as a response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26. The Indian armed forces targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) early on Wednesday.

An Indian student in the US was scammed out of USD 5,000 (approx Rs 4.29 lah) by individuals posing as federal immigration officers, Newsweek Bedi, a UI Designer pursuing her master's degree, told Newsweek she was deceived by scammers posing as officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Bedi came to the US on an F-1 visa in 2022 to pursue a Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction at Indiana University May 29, Bedi received a phone call from someone claiming to be an officer with ICE. The scammer told her that she hadn't reported her administration number and convinced her that she was violating immigration laws. This pressured her into purchasing USD 5,000 worth of gift cards as "bond" payments to avoid arrest and deportation. 'I was absolutely terrified and crying the entire time,' Bedi caller identified himself with a name and badge number, instructing Bedi to verify his identity through ICE's official website. She found that the phone number matched a legitimate ICE office in Maryland, seemingly confirming the call's authenticity. But it was part of an elaborate scam escalated when a second caller, spoofing a number from the Olympia Police Department, claimed there was an active warrant for her arrest unless ICE confirmed her case was under investigation. The callers instructed Bedi to stay on the phone and warned her not to contact anyone, claiming her phone was being kept me on the phone for three hours straight, repeatedly warning me that hanging up or contacting anyone would make things worse,' Bedi said. 'I felt completely trapped.'Under pressure and fearing deportation, Bedi followed their instructions, purchasing USD 5,000 worth of Apple and Target gift cards and sharing the codes over the phone. The scammers told her a police officer would collect the cards and bond papers the next day. That call never was only later that day, after speaking with a friend who found similar scam stories online, that Bedi realised she had been defrauded.'They put me through hours of psychological torture, making me believe I was going to be deported and arrested,' she made the scam believable, Bedi noted, was how much personal information the callers had: her port of entry, educational background, and even specific details about her hometown in emotional and financial toll has been severe for Bedi. Already managing student loan debt, she now faces an additional USD 5,000 in credit card payments. 'I'm living alone in the US with no family support. This money was supposed to help me stay afloat and plan my future here. It completely derailed my plans,' she ICE spokesperson told Newsweek, "ICE strongly condemns the impersonation of its officers or agents. This action is not only dangerous, but illegal. Imposters can be charged with various criminal offences both at the state/local level, and federally (under 18 USC 912)."Bedi has since launched a GoFundMe campaign and is sharing her story to warn other international students. 'You always have the right to hang up and call a lawyer. No legitimate government agency will ever ask for gift cards or sensitive personal details over the phone,' she said.'As international students, we don't fully understand how the system works here, which makes us easy targets. I feel embarrassed that I fell for this, but I want others to learn from my mistake,' she Donald Trump's administration, ICE has ramped up arrests across the country. Phone tapping: Prime accused Prabhakar Rao lands in Hyderabad, expected to appear for questioning today
Former Special Investigation Bureau (SIB) chief T. Prabhakar Rao, who is prime accused in the phone tapping case, anded in Hyderabad from the USA on Sunday night, and he is expected to appear before the West Zone police in Hyderabad on Monday for questioning. An official close to the investigation confirmed that Mr Rao landed in Hyderabad after the Supreme Court granted him protection from arrest, ordering the accused to appear before the investigating officer within three days of receiving the passport/travel documents. This comes after Mr Rao's passport was revoked by the Indian authorities and a Red Corner Notice was issued against him due to his prolonged absence for interrogation in the phone tapping case. Mr Rao has been citing ill health to stay in the US after the case was registered by Punjagutta police of Telangana more than a year ago. The phone tapping scandal surfaced after former Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) DSP Praneeth Rao was arrested on March 13, 2024. Panjagutta police detained him from his residence in Rajanna-Sircilla district, following a complaint by his superior, Additional SP D. Ramesh, who alleged that Rao had unlawfully intercepted the phone calls of several high-profile political leaders and officials.

BSF officer dies of suspected heatstroke during temple car festival in Orathanadu
An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Border Security Force (BSF), who was on leave, collapsed and died of suspected heatstroke during the temple car festival at the Kasi Viswanathar Temple in Orathanadu of Thanjavur district on Saturday. The victim, K.S. Ramesh, 57, a native of Yanaikkal Street in Orathanadu, was an ASI in the 84th Battalion of the BSF in Gujarat. He was on leave and was on a visit to his hometown. Ramesh was taking part in the Vaikasi Visakam car festival at the Visalakshiamman Sametha Kasi Viswanathar Temple. While helping guide the chariot through Komutti Street, he suddenly collapsed. Onlookers rushed him to the Orathanadu Government Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Medical personnel suspect that extreme heat may have caused a heatstroke, leading to his death. The Orathanadu police have registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem examination. An investigation is under way. Ramesh is survived by his wife Jayamala, son Akash, and daughter Aarthi.
