Mao began sounding the alarm about a peaceful evolution as early as 1959, responding to US policies advocated by John Foster Dulles, then the secretary of state, which marked the initial stages of the ideological Cold War. This strategy aimed to undermine socialist countries like the Soviet Union and China by promoting Western values and inciting dissent against the Communist Party's rule.
Mao famously remarked that while there was little hope for the United States to incite change among the Chinese people within two generations, the outcome after three generations was uncertain.
Interestingly, three generations later, China has emerged as one of the world's largest economies and a rising power increasingly viewed as a challenger to America's superpower status. Meanwhile, the US has shifted away from nation-building efforts and vowed to stop offering lectures on how others should live or govern.

At Trump's request, West Virginia sending National Guard troops to Washington
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey is deploying 300 to 400 National Guard troops to the District of Columbia at the request of the Trump administration, the governor's office said on Saturday. The deployment is 'a show of commitment to public safety and regional cooperation' and will include providing equipment and specialised training alongside the 'approximately 300 to 400 skilled personnel as directed', Morrisey's office said in a statement. Drew Galang, a spokesman for Morrisey, said the state's National Guard received the order to send equipment and personnel to Washington late on Friday and was working to organise the deployment. Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump said he was deploying hundreds of National Guard troops to Washington and temporarily taking over the city's police department to curb what he depicted as a crime and homelessness emergency in the nation's capital. A White House official said on Saturday that more National Guard troops would be called in to Washington to 'protect federal assets, create a safe environment for law enforcement officials to carry out their duties when required, and provide a visible presence to deter crime'. A US official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said a formal order was expected to go out that would authorise National Guard troops in Washington to carry firearms. The official said this order would affect mostly military police officers with side arms.
