Diana Ross, 81, sparks health fears as she's forced to pull out of cruise ship performance
The 81-year-old Baby Love songstress - who recently opened up the Henley Festival last month - was slated to kick off the three-day journey on August 20 after being named 'godmother' of the massive ship.
However, the star's representative said in a statement to People on Tuesday, 'Due to unforeseen circumstances, Diana Ross will be unable to appear'.
An exact reason for the sudden absence was not given, but Diana is still set to begin her Beautiful Love tour in the U.S. on August 16.
A spokesperson for the cruise line issued a statement as well and expressed, 'We are disappointed that Diana Ross is unable to join us to be godmother of Star of the Seas.'
They continued that there are plans to announce a 'new godmother' of the ship 'soon'.
A few months earlier in June, Royal Caribbean announced that the singer had been named godmother of the Icon Class ship.
She had been set to to take to the stage to celebrate the new cruise that will embark from Port Canaveral in Orlando, Florida and head to Perfect Day at CocoBay in the Bahamas.
To commemorate the debut of the latest Royal Caribbean ship, Diana would have also taken part in a special naming ceremony with guests.
'I am truly honored to join the Royal Caribbean family,' the Wiz actress expressed in a press release at the time, per PR Newswire.
'Having spent years of creating beautiful music and memories and bringing people together from all over the world, this feels like a perfect continuation of my journey as godmother of Star of the Seas'.
The president and CEO of the cruise line, Michael Bayley, had also stated that the company was 'thrilled' to have the iconic singer ring in the debut of the Star of the Seas ship.
'We couldn't imagine a more fitting godmother for Star than Diana Ross, who is a true icon known for creating music that transcends generations while celebrating life and bringing people together...'
While Diana will no longer take part in the showcase cruise, she is still set to begin her U.S. tour later this month on August 16 in Saratoga, California.
The star - who is also known for being a member of The Supremes - will make stops in other cities such as Atlantic City, St. Louis, Newark and Lincoln.
The Beautiful Love tour will officially conclude later this year in Palm Springs on December 13.
Over the past weekend on Sunday, she shared the U.S. dates to her fans on Instagram and penned, 'It's good to be back home.
'The Beautiful Love Tour is coming to cities across the U.S. for unforgettable nights filled with music, memories, and joy'.
The I'm Coming Out hitmaker added, 'The tour starts a week from today, on August 16th, at the @mountainwinery in Saratoga, CA. Come join the love celebration.'
During a recent interview with People in June, Diana opened up about her family life and how she has been prioritizing her health.
When asked what she has been 'up to these days,' the performer replied, 'Health and well-being'.
Diana continued, 'And my family is equally everything to me. I like staying busy. Because I love what I do, it keeps me grounded. I'm swimming a lot lately to stay flexible.
'I must get my sleep which is important to me. I do my best to eat well, but I do like Häagen-Dazs ice cream'.
In regards to aging and feeling good in her 80s, the star expressed, 'The love of what I do keeps me grounded, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. When you can't find the sunshine be the sunshine...'
Diana then added, 'I have been very blessed in my life. I love what I do. I love my family. I love my life. I'm a happy person'.
The singer also revealed that she had asked her family to join her on the Royal Caribbean cruise before she pulled out of her performance.
She is notably the mother of five children - including Evan Ross who is married to Ashlee Simpson - and the grandmother of eight.
Diana gained recognition as a former member of The Supremes - one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time.
Over the years, especially throughout the 60s, they dropped a number of hit tracks such as You Can't Hurry Love and Where Did Our Love Go.
In 1970, she left the group to launch her own successful solo career in the music industry and would go on to release hits including Endless Love, Ain't No Mountain High Enough and Chain Reaction.
Diana has garnered 13 Grammy nominations and received the Lifetime Achievement Award twice - once for herself in 2012 and then later in 2023 as a member of The Supremes.

Mystery surrounds Selena Gomez's no-show at Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz's vow renewal - after joked they were a throuple
Mystery has surrounded Selena Gomez's whereabouts at Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz's vow renewal on August 2 after she was noticeably absent. The trio have formed an incredibly close bond over the past few years, with Selena cementing their closeness when she joked they were in 'throuple' back in 2023. Once plastered all over each other's social media with gushy photos, Selena's no-show and failure to acknowledge her 'best pals' has cast doubt over their once 'inseparable' friendship. Selena's unusual absence was highlighted further when the singer's friend Dominic West was on the guestlist and pictured with the couple. Selena's former assistant Theresa Mingus was also reportedly in attendance. The actress, who has publicly shared birthday and anniversary tributes for the pair in the past, also failed to congratulate the couple on their big day on social media and chose not to like any of the couple's posts. The snub was drawn to attention when she happily posted pictures on Instagram from Lil Ducky's nuptials earlier this week after attending with her fiancé Benny Blanco. One source connected to the wedding told Daily Mail: 'Selena wasn't there but there were lots of guests who were on the Peltz payroll, she hasn't even said congratulations anywhere public which is very, very unlike her. The trio formed an incredibly close bond over the past few years, with Selena cementing their closeness when she joked they were in 'throuple' back in 2023 (pictured together in 2023) 'There was a time when Selena was helping Nicola through her fall out with the Beckhams, maybe she has got fed up with that now.' Daily Mail has contacted Selena, Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz's representatives for comment. Despite her absence, Selena is said to have been comforting Nicola through the Beckham feud. It was reported the actress has been distracting Nicola with wedding plans for her upcoming nuptials to Benny. 'Selena is always there for her friends if, and when they need anything,' an insider told exclusively. 'She has been messaging Nicola and trying to keep her mind off the drama. 'She has been talking about her upcoming wedding and loves getting Nicola's advice.' Selena and Nicola were inseparable since striking up a friendship in late 2022 when they met at the Academy Museum Gala. Her friendship with Brooklyn dates back to 2015 when they were pictured together at New York Fashion Week. Many of the guests were affiliated with Nicola - a far cry from their first wedding, where both families took front and centre The snub was drawn to attention when she happily posted pictures on Instagram from Lil Ducky's nuptials earlier this week after attending with Benny Soon followed gushing declarations of their bond, including matching outfits and even 'angel' tattoos. So close are the pair that Selena even joked that she was in a 'throuple' with Nicola and Brooklyn after the trio rang in the New Year together in Mexico in 2023. Brooklyn jokingly confirmed this during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show in March, describing Selena as 'such a sweet girl.' 'I love when my wife makes new friends, especially really great friends,' he said. 'You know, we all get along.' Selena wasn't the only notable star absent from Brooklyn and Nicola's vow renewal. His parents, David and Victoria Beckham and siblings Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14, were all missing from the 200 people guest list. His grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles were also absent and only found out about the wedding vow renewal by reading it online. The brothers absence was reportedly down to a series of online 'trolling' from the duo, according to those close to Brooklyn and Nicola. A friend told The Mirror: 'Brooklyn's brothers have been fanning the flames... they've openly made fun of and trolled Brooklyn in comments on social media.' Daily Mail has contacted Brooklyn, Nicola and the Beckhams' representatives for comment. Brooklyn and wife Nicola, who first wed in 2022, said 'I do' for a second time in Westchester County in front of her family who had key roles in the day, with the Beckham clan nowhere in sight. Nicola wore her 70-year-old mother's vintage 1985 bridal gown for the big day, while her father Nelson, 83, was given the key role of officiating. Brooklyn become increasingly estranged from his family since he snubbed his father's 50th birthday, and now, the family fear it's a final kick in the teeth. A source told The Sun: 'This was the final kick in the teeth for David and Victoria. Seeing Nelson having such a pivotal role at the ceremony was heartbreaking for David especially. Not one member of the 30-plus extended family knew about the wedding, or were invited. 'His grandparents are devastated too as Brooklyn has always been so close to them.' The source added: 'It feels cruel and spiteful. This is no longer a game. It has gone beyond all that. This is a family who feel they have lost their precious boy - and see no way back. 'Honestly, they are now questioning why he even wants to keep the 'Beckham' surname - will he revert to Peltz? August 2nd 2025 - is this the day Brooklyn formally declared himself no longer a part of the Beckham family? It certainly feels like it.'. As well as Posh, Becks and his brothers, Brooklyn's sister Harper, his grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles were also absent and only found out about the wedding vow renewal by reading it online (family seen before feud) Brooklyn and Nicola first tied the knot in a lavish £3million ceremony in 2022, when relations first began to sour with his parents in the run-up to the big day. After shunning a dress made by her fashion designer Victoria mother-in-law in favour of a Valentino gown in 2022 - a choice which wasn't well received - Nicola once again snubbed the Spice Girl and wore her mother Claudia's vintage wedding gown. It is a poignant message to Posh and Becks', whom he and Nicola have grown increasingly estranged over recent months. All the while the Beckhams were said to be upset by the Peltz's in 2022 who they felt were taking over the wedding. And ever since their first big nuptials in April 2022, the two families have not reunited and Nicola has rarely been pictured with the Beckhams.
