AL mission praises good organization of Egypt's Senate election
In statements to Nile Radio on Monday, he said 'Today is a day of pride and joy for the accomplishments witnessed, thanks to the efforts of the Egyptian National Elections Authority (NEA) in terms of organization, preparation, and use of modern technology — all of which indicate a genuine advancement in the electoral process across Arab countries.'
He added that the Arab League's observation of the election comes under the direction of the Secretary-General and upon the request of the NEA. He noted that the Arab League had previously taken part in monitoring Egypt's presidential and parliamentary elections, a thing which reflects the confidence it enjoys and reinforces the sense of assurance in the progress made so far.
He said that 'The Arab League election observation mission has recorded several positive indicators since voting began, most notably the well-prepared polling stations, the provisions made for people with disabilities, the good security arrangements, and the effective use of modern technology — all of which are a source of pride for the Arab world.'
'Egypt has always been a pioneer and a leader in this regard,' he said.
Zawadi pointed out that the League's observer teams were deployed across various governorates and cities, with a comprehensive final report to be issued at the conclusion of the mission detailing the observations and evaluation.
He said the strong confidence placed in the Arab League by Egyptian authorities is a source of great appreciation and pride. (MENA)

Abu Dhabi, UAE –August, 2025: His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, held a meeting with the Philippines Business Council in the UAE to explore expanding private sector relations between the two nations. This meeting follows the agreement of a bilateral Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) last July, aimed at enhancing trade cooperation and investment opportunities. The meeting touched on ways to build and expand partnerships between the business communities and the private sector on both sides. During the meeting, HE Al Zeyoudi highlighted the growing economic partnership between the UAE and the Philippines, noting that the total volume of non-oil trade reached approximately US$940 million in 2024. Growth has continued in 2025, with non-oil trade reaching US$257.7 million in Q1. The UAE is the Philippines' top export market among Arab and African countries as well as its 17th largest globally, demonstrating the strong foundation on which both nations can further expand collaboration. 'The Philippines is a key trading partner for the UAE in the growing ASEAN region, and we are committed to fostering stronger ties at all levels,' HE Dr. Al Zeyoudi stated. ' Our discussions today aim to explore private sector opportunities, identify areas for greater collaboration, and address any challenges faced by Philippines businesses operating in the UAE or by their Emirati counterparts operating in the Philippine market.' The Philippines is one of the fastest-growing economies in the ASEAN bloc of countries and a key logistics and manufacturing hub. In 2024, the economy grew by 5.6%, the second-fastest growing economy in the ASEAN region, which the world's fourth-largest economic bloc, boasting a combined GDP of US$4.13 trillion. With a significant Filipino diaspora residing in the UAE, working primarily in sectors such as construction, healthcare, and hospitality, the meeting also aimed to explore how these communities can further contribute to mutual prosperity from the growing economic ties. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which was agreed earlier this year, is expected to mitigate trade barriers, boost investment flows, and open new avenues for trade, investment and collaboration in key sectors including agriculture, financial services, and electrical equipment. The UAE-Philippines CEPA represents a significant addition to the UAE's global trade program. The CEPA is forecast to increase the UAE's GDP by US$2.4bn and increase exports to the Philippines to US$7.62 billion by 2032.

AD: Tracking the Growth of Egypt's New Capital With ministries, universities, cultural landmarks, and growing residential communities in place, the New Capital is preparing for Phase 2. Fifty kilometres east of Cairo, Egypt's New Capital is shifting from an ambitious blueprint to a functioning urban centre. Conceived as part of a broader national plan to expand and modernise the country's urban footprint, the city now houses ministries, universities, cultural landmarks, and a growing residential population—while laying the groundwork for its next phase. The master developer is the Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD), a joint stock company operating under the Egyptian Tax Authority. ACUD is self-financed, carries no debt, and is responsible for overseeing the capital's phased development, infrastructure, and urban planning. Phase 1, which covers the government district, major residential zones, and core infrastructure, is 70% complete and operational. Around 25,000 families live in the city, alongside 50,000 government employees, 12,000 university students, and 20,000 school pupils. The Egyptian Cabinet has operated from here for two years, with all ministries now based in purpose-built offices. Education has emerged as a cornerstone of the New Capital's development. Six universities are already in operation—including the University of Hertfordshire, Egypt University of Informatics, the European Universities in Egypt, the Universities of Canada in Egypt, the German International University, and The Knowledge Hub. School options range from the Nile Egyptian International Schools to the Royal Canadian School-Cairo, New Capital English Schools, Cadmus International Schools, Citadel International School, and NIS by Dr. Nermien Ismail. Civic and cultural landmarks have also taken shape. The City of Arts and Culture has hosted concerts from Egyptian soprano Amira Selim and international artists such as Michael Bublè. Egypt's Islamic Cultural Center and the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ stand as architectural and symbolic anchors for the city. Connectivity, often a critical measure of a new city's viability, has been prioritised. The New Capital links to Cairo and New Cairo through an expanded road network, with the Light Rail Transit (LRT) already operational and the Monorail set to follow. Inside the city, an internal bus network connects to LRT and Monorail stops, supplemented by New Capital Cab and ride-hailing services like Uber, Careem, Indrive, and Didi. From the city centre, New Cairo is a 30-minute drive; central Cairo takes around 90 minutes. The city's lifestyle offering continues to expand, from hospitality like St. Regis Almasa New Capital to wellness, leisure, and retail spaces. Public services, including hospitals and municipal facilities, are being integrated alongside residential and commercial developments. With Phase 2 now in the master planning stage, the New Capital is positioned to scale further—adding new districts, facilities, and transport links. For Egypt, it is both a statement of intent and a long-term investment in reshaping how its cities grow. For those already living, working, and studying here, it is a place not in theory, but in practice.
